Arriving at the Hokage office Shitsuya was provided with special tools for his mission.
First he was provided with contact lenses that would allow him to use his Sharingan descretly, he was then handed a scroll.
"This is a summoning contract that will allow you to summon ninja dogs that you can use to send back reports to the village. The dogs are known to have signed a contract with the village so never summon them in the presence of enemy ninjas." The glasses wearing ninja in charge of mission details said.
"You will make a report every week and anytime you find important information that may help the village."
"You will be escorted to the land the meeting point by a team of Anbu. There you will make contact with a spy who will help you infiltrate. Is everything understood?" The ninja asked.
Shitsuya nodded, after signing his name in blood on the contract he left accompanied by a team of Anbu.
It took only a few days before they arrived at the meeting point.
In the ruins of still burning village a single Shinobi in Kiri ninja attire stood smoking a cigarette.
As the Anbu appeared Infront of him he dropped the cigarette on the ground and stepped on it.
Both he and one of the Anbu reached into a their pockets and threw a white and black scroll to each other respectively.
Nodding to eachother the Anbu disappeared, leaving only Shitsuya and the Kiri ninja behind.
"So you're the newbie huh?" The man said with a gruff voice.
"Here." He said as he threw Shitsuya some tattered pieces of clothing.
"Change quickly and roll on some dirt, other Kiri ninjas will arrive soon, and not phony ones like me." He said with a smirk.
Shitsuya changed into the tattered clothes and rolled around on the ground, covering himself with dust and making his hair disheveled.
"Ok here's the rundown, Your name in is Ume, no last name, you were born in this village and managed to hide and survive when Konoha Shinobi attacked the village. Understood?"
Shitsuya nodded.
"I'm going to knock you out now." The man said and approached Shitsuya.
Shitsuya hesitated but nodded and allowed the man to strike his temple.
The man did a really good job as Shitsuya was knocked out cold for over two days.
After being lightly interrogated by some Kiri ninjas on his identity after he woke up he was taken to the ninja academy in the hidden mist.
The entrance exam was quite simple all he had to do was resist falling unconscious while taking a beating by several ninjas.
The ninja academy in the hidden mist was very different compared to the one in Konoha.
In Konoha it was similar to a school where students came and went everyday to learn.
In Kiri it was more like a military boot comp, once one entered they either left as a ninja or in a body bag.
Kiri proved to be quite vicious even before it was known as the bloody mist village, it enforced group punishment if a single person misbehaved and encouraged them not to hold back when sparring.
As Shitsuya now known as Ume was an actual ninja he quickly pulled ahead, cementing his spot at the top of his class.
He didn't show his full prowess but he showed a quicker learning ability than all the other children while also behaving himself most of the time.
It wasn't only orphans who ended up in the academy although there was no shortage of them.
Kiri now unlike in the future still had many Kekkei genkai clans. Ninjas from those clans were usually more exceptional so they weren't very happy when a nameless orphan like Ume took the first spot.
They challenged him and Shitsuya took the opportunity to break the rules and beat them to a pulp every time.
This earned him the animosity of those clan kids he beat and other kids who would be given a hard time by the instructors and clan kids because of him.
During the first month he was attacked on a nightly basis while sleeping as everyone shared the same room however after the several thwarted attempts and the increasingly severe punishments of the instructors the attacks stopped and everyone decided to keep a distance from him.
4 years passed and Shitsuya turned 11, although such a long time passed he had stagnated, although he grew taller he hadn't become much stronger.
Today his class took the graduation exam which was quite a lot harder than the Konoha one.
The test required them to show high accuracy with shuriken, high proficiency in taijutsu and to perform both the hidden mist Jutsu and the water clone Jutsu, a D and C rank Jutsu respectively.
Shitsuya aced the exam however many others failed, that revealed the final step of the exam.
If someone failed the exam they had no choice but to fight someone who passed in a battle to the death.
Wearing the hidden mist headband he had just earned, Shitsuya walked into the arena.
Infront of him stood his opponent, It was a female classmate of his.
Shitsuya had a personal distaste for this girl. It wasn't because she ever challenged him, she infact was one of only a few who approached him with the intention of befriending him.
But unlike all his other classmates who he drove away with his selfish behaviour, she always stayed by his side.
No matter how many times he insulted her until she cried no matter how many time he beat her or just watched from the side as others bullied her she always followed him around like a dog.
Watching her trembling hands as she held the Kunai, Shitsuya made a hand signs and incredibly thick mist flooded the area.
The mist was so thick one couldn't see their hand if they held it Infront of them so it was no wonder that the little girl couldn't even react when a Kunai plunged deep into her eye and into her brain.
The mist dispersed as the corpse fell Infront of Shitsuya.
