Inside the executive chairman's office, Franklin sat on the leather corner sofa, his bright and clear eyes focused on the real estate sales plan in his hand.
He held the hemispherical wine glass in one hand and shook it leisurely, making the liquid red wine more fragrant.
At this moment, two knocks on the tightly closed door which were particularly loud in the silent night, were heard.
"Come in." Franklin put down the plan in his hand and answered..
A man in a dark brown suit walked in, took off his sunglasses, revealing his sharp black eyes and handsome face. He smiled and said to Franklin who was sipping the wine. "Hey, Frank why did you asked me to come here so late in the night? What's going on with you, do you want me to meet your fiance or what?"
"I haven't seen you for half a month, and yet you, as cold as I am, you've learned to make hard jokes."
Carter Taylor, the leader of the Taylor Crime Family and the ruler of the underworld systems, was cold and ruthless, and decisive in his actions. He was cold to everyone but would sometimes say rare jokes.
"Poor me." Carter sat beside Franklin nonchalantly and poured wine for himself. He was not reserved at all.
The two have known each other since childhood, and have been through thick and thin together, and their relationship was as close as brothers. He was openly a mob lord, but secretly a friend to Franklin.
"You're late, what happened?"
"I encountered something that required my attention on the way." Carter took a sip of the wine and answered truthfully. Thinking of that girl, his sharp black eyes softened. He couldn't help wondering if she returned home safely?
Seeing Carter's glittering eyes, Franklin said with a smile in his eyes. "You have the best sense of time, what could have possibly stopped you?"
"Okay, enough wth the questions. What do you need, my friend?" Carter, who was being teased, was afraid that he could say something embarrassing, so he stopped talking about this topic. Besides, his friend must have something important to tell him if he wanted to meet him in person.
When the important topic was mentioned, Franklin's face suddenly turned cold. His starry eyes flickered as he looked out the window. "Tomorrow, I want you to investigate the business trends and internal personnel exchanges of Henderson's family over the past few years, and make all the shady dealings public."
"Did they attack you or something?"
The news of the marriage arrangement between hisfamily and the Hendersons had not been announced to the public yet, but he had heard some of it from people around him. What he hated most in his life was when others controlled his life.
"I never liked using marriage as a bargaining chip. I just don't like the Hendersons trying to use me for their own interests."
Did Lucille think that she would be worry-free if she asked his own father to make the marriage arrangements for her? Even if he couldn't refuse outright, he would force the Henderson to withdraw from the marriage's commitment. He would make them regret their decision in the first place.
"Why can't you organize that yourself? Why do you have to involve me in something like this?"
"Lambert Henderson is an extraordinarily intelligent man. That's why no one has found any evidence of wrongdoings against him til now. That's why I need you, my dear friend."
Since the establishment of Henderson's company, there had not been any major scandal to their name. He believed that the family's security department must have covered them up. He just didn't believe that there would be a man who didn't cheat in his business dealings.
"Hm, ok."
"If you can't find out, I'll be forced to marry Lucille. Don't you know what that means?"
Carter leaned on the sofa, with one hand on the top of the sofa, smiling comfortably. "Relax, my friend. The probability of that happening is even smaller than the chance of the world ending."
"Okay, maybe I'm just overthinking it."
Not to mention that Franklin already had a woman he loved, with his outstanding business acumen, only a few could match up as his opponents.
"You can't let anyone know about this, or else, hell could brake loose."
"As long as you don't tell anyone and settle it as soon as possible, no one will know about this." In response to Carter's kind reminder, Franklin sipped his red wine as if nothing had happened.
