Chapter 20 - Scars Of That Night

That night, Franklin did not stay at the family house, but returned to the company, because only when he was busy with work would he not think about those painful past events.

In the dim high-rise building, some sparks of lights illuminated the corridor, vaguely shadowing the figure of Ava as she walked alone in the empty corridor. Already timid, she heard the echo of her own footsteps and her heart began to beat with fear.

She ran, just wanting to leave the place quickly, while blaming herself for working so hard that she had to stay up so late.

She was lost in thought in annoyance, not paying attention to the front for a moment, that she collided with a figure that suddenly walked out from the corner, and both of them fell to the ground at the same time.

Hearing a muffled groan, Ava wondered where it came from. When realized that she didn't feel any pain, but instead felt as soft as cotton wool under her body, she reached out with her hand.

When she touched a muscular chest, she was so scared that she immediately moved away and huddled up at the corner.

A strong hand quickly grabbed the woman. "Hey..."

He was also quite surprised that there was an employee of the company working so late. After all, the company did not allow anyone to stay after work hours.

"I'm so, so, sorry." The extremely cold voice made Ava tremble with fear, and she raised her eyes to look at the man.

He was tall and elegant, wearing a well-fitting beige casual suit. His face was meticulously carved, with sharp edges and corners like a perfectly carved work of art, almost flawless. His eyes, bright as stars, looked at him coldly, and he exuded a faint aura of indifference.

But, there was something about the face. Then she remembered. That night...

Seeing the face that she deeply loathed, Ava struggled to break free from Franklin's shackles in fear and run away.

That night, his cruelty reappeared before her eyes. No matter how she begged or how she cried, he dragged her into the bottomless abyss like a demon and shattered her heart. From then on, this nightmare followed her every night.

She thought that they would never have any encounter with him again, but now, she did. Why did God let them meet again and open the scars of that night?

Franklin saw Ava's intense reaction and frightened expression, and raised his eyebrows in confusion. He was not a ghost, so why was she so scared? He didn't know that in Ava's heart, he was more of a demon than a terrifying ghost.

"Why are you still here? Don't you know the company's rules?" Franklin stood up gracefully and looked at her profile carefully before he remembered who she was, so he asked in a serious tone.

He was already suspicious of Ava's intention to join the company, and was very unhappy to see her staying here this late at night. A woman who didn't take the company's rules seriously should not be tolerated.

"I..." Ava was so flustered that she couldn't answer.

"What are you still waiting for, do you want me to ask someone to come and pick you up?" Seeing Ava huddled in the corner motionlessly, Franklin asked impatiently.

"No, I'm fine. I'll leave now." Ava, clutching her arms tightly on both sides, did not want to look directly at Franklin who was standing in front of her, and immediately replied with her head down.

After she finished speaking, without waiting for Franklin to say anything, she quickly walked away from this suffocating place and disappeared from sight, stunned.

She ran out of the revolving door and looked back at the towering building. His presence in the company meant that he also worked here, so she would have to run into him often in the future.

What should she do now? Should she give up this job? But this is her only source of income, how could she afford to lose it?

She bit her bright red lips and consoled herself that he had not seen her face that night and would not recognize her. So, she had to control her panicking mind. The company was so big and there were so many departments, and the number of times they would meet would be very few.

Perhaps, he was not an employee of the Larson Group, but was just here to look for someone, Ava thought naively, hoping that it would give her the courage to stay.
