Chapter 18 - Kayden

"So what will you like to have today?" Kayden asked.

He was sitting rather comfortably, continuously fidgeting with his ring. He wore a dark blue hoodie with blue jeans.

I ordered a Latte and he ordered an Americano special.

"I know aunt can be a bit... You know.." He said.

"Either way, thanks for helping me back there." I said, smiling.

"Look Vera, this was my sister." I said, sitting on the couch and showing Vera my sister's photos. "She was really pretty, my lady." She replied.

I smiled and looked at the photo. It was from five months ago. We had gone to the arcade with our friend group. It was fun.

"Oo, your sister looks nothing like you or your father. Is she your real sister?" I heard a voice from behind me. I turned and saw Mrs. Anstey, peeking in my phone.

I closed my phone and kept it aside.

"Yes, she is my real sister. She went on our mother." I said.

"Hmm.. Don't fool me. I remember how she looked like. About six years back, I saw her. It was a late-night party. All the successful and rich businessmen of the city were invited. Your parents were there as well. In fact, you look a lot like your mother. The same hazel hair and similar facial features." She said, touching my face.

I stood up and said, "Well, mother, I don't think you know this. My mother was a natural-blonde and so is my sister. She had dyed her hair hazel at that time. And this is not something we should be discussing right now." I said.

She laughed. It was cruel laugh, making me feel inferior to her. She is behaving differently now, is this her true self?

"Hello, Aunt." I saw Kayden standing behind her. She turned around and suddenly her posture changed.

"Oho, how are you, Kayden?" She asked, pulling his cheeks while on her toes to match his height.

Why does she act like he is still a kid?

"I'm fine as always. What were you discussing about?" He asked. "Oh, nothing important." She smirked and looked at me from the corner of her eyes.

Seriously, what's wrong with her?

"Well, I came to meet Lily today. If you'll excuse us then." He said, looking at me now.

She gave us another glare and I sighed after she left.

"She often doesn't think, if the other person is feeling uncomfortable." He said, sipping slowly and keeping his cup back down.

I nodded.

"I honestly don't know what else she would have said, if you hadn't shown up." I said, laughing.

He laughed as well. Kayden has a dimple on his right cheek; cute.

"Lily?" A lady walked up to us.

I looked at her and my eyes widened. "Mia?" I said and got up immediately to hug her.

"My god, it's been so long since we last met. I believe you are married now, aren't you?" She gave me slight push, an attempt to tease, classic Mia.

"Yes, when did you return?" I asked.

"Oh, just four days back. I'm so sorry, about Allison." Her voice lowered. I nodded and smiled at her.

After a few seconds of silence, she pulled a chair from the table behind us and sat. "So, how has Lily been treating you?" She asked Kayden.

I sat down as well, wondering why she would ask him.

"Well, she has been treating me well." He smirked.

She leaned towards me and whispered in my ear, "How did you find such an attractive guy?"

I laughed and so did Kayden.

"I'm Kayden, Lily's cousin-in-law." He kept smiling.

Mia's expressions changed and she glared at me. I shrugged, to which she closed her eyes. I looked at Kayden and found him already looking at me.

She sighed and said, "I'm Mia, nice to meet you."

He nodded and drank another small sip. "So, what do you do?" she asked Kayden.

"As of now, I help my father run his company. In the future, I will be taking over. What about you?" He asked.

"I am a fashion designer. I went out after completing my studies here." She said.

"Hmm, no wonder the outfit." He said.

Indeed, that was true. It was a cold weather, and she dressed accordingly. Brown turtleneck paired with a black mini skirt with thin white stripes. She had a dark brown coat, hanging on her chair and black beanie in hand.

I think she had dyed her hair a little lighter shade of brown as well.

"Would you like to have anything?" I asked. "Hmm.. Yes, sure. BUT, I will pay for the drinks." She said.

I tried to make her take back that decision but unfortunately, I have some of the most stubborn friends.

"For a second I thought you were her husband. I'm sorry." She apologized. Of course, she was still feeling embarrassed. "Haha, I wouldn't mind that though." He mumbled, loud enough for both of us to hear.

I held my coffee mug mid-air and looked at him, so did Mia.

I kept the mug down and looked down.

Just then, I felt a hand roughly pull me up.
