Chapter 5 - Storage space

[Inventory: Basic Storage Space (1 cubic meter) acquired. Would you like to open it?]

[Success! You have acquired a Basic Storage Space of 1 cubic meter (stackable).]

"A personal storage space? Not bad," Moarik mused.

With a single thought, Moarik could "see" a virtual storage space that he could use to store and retrieve various items with ease.

"This will be useful. Now, when I open more blind boxes, I can directly place the items into this storage space."

"And since this time I've obtained a cubic meter that's stackable, who knows, I might be able to expand it further with future blind box openings."

Moarik thoughts wandered as he observed the white-glowing blind box near Light Nostrade. "If Light Nostrade has a blind box, then there's no reason why his daughter, Neon, who's an even more pivotal character, wouldn't have one too!"

Light Nostrade, as a significant character in the story who drives certain plot developments, naturally has a blind box near him. Unfortunately, it's just a basic one, but that's still something.

However, Moarik had higher expectations for the more important character, Neon. He hoped for a higher-tier blind box near her!

"If my theory is correct, the blind boxes won't just appear once. They might reappear as the plot develops, and as the importance of the characters in a particular arc increases, so will the level of the blind boxes..."

Given this possibility, a visit to the Nostrade family was definitely in order.

As these thoughts raced through Moarik's mind, Light Nostrade finally finished his speech, having covered all the usual empty platitudes.

"Our Nostrade family is currently the most promising mafia family," he concluded, licking his lips that had gone dry from all the talking. "Joining us is undoubtedly a wise and correct decision."

Just as his words hung in the air, before Moarik could respond, an irritating voice filled with mockery rang out from the side.

"Hahaha, Light, you really have the nerve!"

"Calling yourselves the Nostrade family—since when does a nobody like you get to call yourself a family?"

The mocking tone was evident, and it was clear to anyone that the speaker was ridiculing Light Nostrade.

"Kenpot!!" Light Nostrade's expression darkened instantly.

He didn't need to look to know who that familiar, contemptuous voice belonged to.

"You lowlife, what are you doing here?!"

Light Nostrade's face twisted with displeasure as he turned to face the two men walking toward him.

"What, if a sewer rat like you can come out to scavenge, isn't it reasonable for me to follow with a fly swatter?" said Kenpot, a gaunt man with a hooked nose and sunken cheeks, with a sneer.

"If you're out here looking for trash, then I'm here to find a beast to aid me."

Behind Kenpot was a towering, muscular man with bulging muscles, who snorted out a puff of white air through his nose.

This "beast," as Kenpot called him, flexed his arm in a show of strength, casting a disdainful look at Moarik , who appeared "small" in comparison.

"Hmph, probably just some useless show-off," Light Nostrade muttered coldly.

Kenpot's hooked nose twitched as he smirked, "You're talking about yourself, right?"

"A broken-down family like yours, talking about potential..."

Kenpot shook his head as he turned his gaze toward Moarik , his eyes filled with contempt. "Figures, trash attracts trash."

"A trash family recruiting trash people—it's a perfect match! Hahahaha!"

"You..."

Light Nostrade's face turned even darker with anger.

He wanted to retort, but the towering, dark-skinned man behind Kenpot stared him down, making him swallow his words.

"Let's go. This is a waste of time," Kenpot said, clearly pleased with his victory as he turned to leave, his new recruit following close behind.

But just then...

"Boss, are you really going to let them go just like that?"

A calm voice broke the silence.

"Hm?!"

Kenpot stopped in his tracks and turned around, surprised.

"What did you just say?"

Even Light Nostrade, who was fuming, turned his gaze toward Moarik , intrigued.

"I mean..."

Moarik pointed at Kenpot and his companion, his voice steady. "Are we just going to let these two piles of dog crap walk away after they've tried to disgust us?"

"Shouldn't we clean up a bit?"

"Of course, if you're worried about getting your hands dirty, boss..."

Moarik spread his hands slightly and smiled, "I can take care of it for you."

"After all, isn't handling these kinds of situations part of my job?"
