Chapter 3 - handsome guy

His voice was so pleasant that every word seemed to carry a sizzling current, making Jian Yan's heart tingle with delight.

She didn't care what he said; at that moment, she was simply captivated by his sexy voice and wanted to hear him speak more.

But after he turned and left, Jian Yan came back to her senses. Goodness, what had she been thinking? How could she act like such a creep!

As she was feeling annoyed, the whispers of two saleswomen reached her ears inadvertently.

"Oh, Manager He is back?"

"Great, I have motivation for work again!"

"...Isn't your motivation supposed to be your salary?"

"How can something as shallow as money compare to Manager He's good looks?"

Jian Yan's eyes flickered. That person just now...was the famous Young Master He?

"Excuse me, could you take a look at this outfit for me?"

A young woman's voice came from the left. Jian Yan turned around to see a young girl. She looked like she had just graduated and started working, wearing a new knitted sweater priced at 468 yuan.

Although she was just an ordinary customer, Jian Yan treated all customers equally. She smiled at her and said, "It's really nice. Coarse knit sweaters are a popular item for autumn and winter. White is also very versatile, allowing for many different styles."

The young woman looked happy after hearing her words. "I thought the same thing."

Jian Yan looked at her again. "But this outfit needs a little more flair. Wait a moment." Jian Yan walked to the front counter and fetched a yellow floral scarf. "Scarves are one of the must-have accessories for autumn and winter. Adding a small detail can make a big difference."

She helped the young woman tie the scarf around her neck and then moved aside to let her look in the mirror. "How about it?"

"It's very pretty." The young woman touched the knot on the scarf and looked up at Jian Yan. "How did you tie it so nicely? I bought a scarf before, but I couldn't tie it well, so it just sat at home unused."

Jian Yan replied, "Just practice more. Practice makes perfect."

"Can you teach me?"

"Of course."

The team leader watched Jian Yan teaching the customer how to tie the scarf and nodded in satisfaction. This new employee wasn't bad.

At this time, He Xiu was sitting in his office reading Jian Yan's resume. Freelancer... He chuckled softly and placed her resume on the desk.

A top student in fashion design, very pretty, and from what he could tell, her family background was quite good—her clothes weren't luxury brands, but they weren't cheap either. Why would someone like her come to sell clothes in a mall?

He Xiu tapped his long fingers twice on the table, his gaze returning to Jian Yan's resume. Although she didn't seem like someone who would stay long, she was interesting.

He dialed Zhou Wenwen's internal line and told her, "Let's keep the friend you introduced here at Dream Closet."

"Alright, Manager He."

Zhou Wenwen hung up the call and relayed the good news to Jian Yan.

By noon, it was eleven-thirty, and the first batch of employees began to have lunch. Since Jian Yan was new, the team leader specially arranged for an experienced employee to take her to the cafeteria. Compared to other staff canteens, the Starlight Department Store cafeteria was already considered decent, but the food obviously couldn't compare to homemade dishes. After eating there once, Jian Yan decided she'd bring her own lunch tomorrow.

The afternoon went smoothly. Jian Yan loved dealing with clothes and felt happy when she saw customers emerge from the fitting room looking beautiful. Although the team leader had said she could leave at five o'clock, as a workaholic, not staying late wouldn't be professional.

So, Jian Yan stayed until past five-forty before leaving the store.

On her way home, she stopped at a small shop. She pulled up, rolled down the window, and said to the proprietress, "One bowl of spicy rice noodle soup, extra chili and pea shoots."

"Sure thing!"

Jian Yan was a regular at this shop, and the proprietress knew her tastes well. But pea shoots were expensive, so although she gave Jian Yan a bit more, it was still just a few sprigs. Jian Yan raised an eyebrow at the sparse pea shoots in her bowl and handed the money to the proprietress.

She still had some pea shoots at home. She'd cook them herself when she got home.

Carrying the fragrant spicy rice noodle soup, Jian Yan opened the door to find Lin Zhen's high heels inside. Lin Zhen had a key to her place, but since she didn't have any manuscripts due, why was she here?

"You're back?" Lin Zhen's voice floated out from the living room. "Did you buy spicy rice noodle soup? I can smell it!"

Jian Yan changed into slippers and walked in. "I did, but I only bought my own bowl."

"Tsk, stingy."

Jian Yan set the bowl on the table and asked, "What brings you here? I've already submitted my manuscript."

Lin Zhen replied, "Do I always have to come for a manuscript? I can...come for a free meal too!"

As she spoke, she quickly reached for the spicy rice noodle soup on the table but was slapped away by Jian Yan. "Ms. Lin, you're not ashamed to steal your employee's food?"

Lin Zhen said calmly, "I'm totally shameless."

Jian Yan clicked her tongue and sat down on the sofa to eat, not even bothering to add the pea shoots.

Lin Zhen ordered delivery through an app in frustration, deciding not to share later. "By the way, where did you go? You didn't really go to sell clothes, did you?"

Jian Yan, mouth full of spicy rice noodle soup, looked at her with big eyes and nodded. "Yes."

"..." Lin Zhen paused. "Holy crap, you're serious?"

"I'm always serious."

"..." Lin Zhen fell silent for a while.

After swallowing the spicy rice noodle soup, Jian Yan said to her with relish, "Today was my first day of work, and I sold over 60,000 yuan worth of clothes. Thinking about the commission, I could afford another bowl of spicy rice noodle soup."

Lin Zhen wanted to tease her but was impressed by her sales figure. "You sold over 60,000 yuan worth of clothes??"

"Yes, I met a big spender, luck was on my side." Jian Yan happily picked up a sprig of pea shoots. "Oh, I also saw Young Master He."

"Holy crap!" Lin Zhen was nearly apoplectic, unable to contain herself! "I want to sell clothes too!"

"You can go shopping, maybe you'll run into him if you're lucky."

"Young Master He doesn't hang around the store all day, right? By the way, how is he in person? Is he really handsome?"

"He's alright, his voice is nice."

Lin Zhen made a face at her and turned on her computer. "Speaking of voices, there's a concert tonight. I almost forgot."

Jian Yan smirked and glanced at her sidelong. "If there's a concert, go listen to it. What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for my delivery."

Jian Yan: "..."

After preparing the lunch she would bring to work the next day, Lin Zhen's delivery arrived long ago. Lin Zhen had ordered a large pot of spicy hot pot, filling the entire room with its aroma, which was...extremely appetizing. Jian Yan took chopsticks and a bowl to try and get some, but was just as mercilessly pushed away by Lin Zhen. "No food for you."

Jian Yan raised her eyebrows and stood up. "Lady, the sofa you're sitting on is mine, the computer you're using is mine, and the floor you're stepping on is mine. How dare you resist me?"

Lin Zhen: "....."

The teacher sure knows how to create characters on the spot, huh?

"Here, take it. Don't disgust me." Lin Zhen pushed the spicy hot pot towards her. "You're allergic to men, aren't you? How do you know so much about male characters? And drawing boy-girl comics? You should be drawing yuri."

"Characters in the two-dimensional world are different from those in the real world."

"True, if a character like your protagonist existed in the real world, it would be a bit scary."

"My protagonist? If he could come to life, he'd easily outshine every guy on the street, wouldn't he?"

"Okay, okay, your protagonist is the handsomest." Lin Zhen said as she picked up a piece of beef for herself. "By the way, could you buy me some cake from the patisserie on your way home tomorrow? Do employees at Starlight Department Store get a discount?"

Jian Yan gave her a look. "The patisserie is owned by the Yu family, not President He."

"So what benefits do you have?" Lin Zhen looked disgusted and was about to continue berating her when there was activity on the YY channel. "Ah, the concert has started!"

She excitedly turned up the volume. Jian Yan glanced at the screen and continued eating. When the host mentioned that the concert would last until eleven o'clock, Jian Yan was taken aback. "You're not planning to stay here until eleven, are you?"

Lin Zhen said, "Eleven is just a conservative estimate. It might run overtime."

Jian Yan: "..."

Lin Zhen patted her shoulder amicably and winked at her. "We've shared a bed before, what's there to be shy about?"

Jian Yan curled her lips and pushed her hand away.

At nine forty in the evening, He Xiu led the floor managers on a tour of the department store. Many female employees looked forward to this time every day—not for any particular reason, just because they lusted after Manager He's good looks.

When they arrived at Dream Closet, He Xiu noticed Jian Yan wasn't there and approached the team leader to ask about her. "What do you think of the new employee?"

The team leader replied, "Ah, you mean Jian Yan, right? She's pretty good. She's very knowledgeable about clothing brands and prices. She's also very quick-witted. On her first day today, her sales were the highest."

He Xiu nodded. "I saw what happened this morning. Although Mrs. Zheng likes to be difficult, she's always generous. Jian Yan handled it well."

After understanding the situation here, he continued the tour. There were only a few remaining customers in the department store, and many of them stopped to look at him as he passed by.

He Xiu was used to it and showed no discomfort. After finishing his work, he received a call from his friend Tang Zheng. "Congratulations, Young Master He, you've gained another girlfriend. Once you collect ten, can you summon a dragon?"

He Xiu had been at a branch company these past two days and hadn't seen any gossip news, but without needing to see it, he knew it was probably another tabloid report claiming he was someone's boyfriend. "Something like that, you can't envy me even if you want to."

"Tch, my standards aren't that low."

"One could say, the paparazzi's standards aren't that low."

Tang Zheng: "..."

"Did you call just to get trolled by me?"

Tang Zheng pursed his lips. "I wanted to remind you not to forget the concert tonight!"
