Chapter 2 - The Calm Before The Storm

The aroma of freshly made coffee filled the Cullen's café, where the soft murmur of conversation mixed with the clinking of cups. Sunlight streamed through the large windows, casting a warm glow on the trio; Olivia, Carly and Jensen seated at a cozy corner table. Olivia, a bright-eyed young lady with a compelling smile, leaned forward, with a palpable excitement.

"Guys, I can't wait to see what Richard has in store for us this year," she gushed, her cheeks flushed with anticipation. "It's been two years already, and he still sweeps me off my feet!"

Carly, her childhood friend with a bubbly personality, clasped her hands together in relish. "Awwww, isn't he the sweetest?" she cooed, her eyes shinning with admiration.

"Honestly, I don't deserve him," Olivia continued, her voice laced with sincerity. "He's so kind and considerate. It's like he knows exactly how to make me feel special."

Across the table, Jensen, the grounded voice of reason in their trio, raised an eyebrow. "What are you guys doing today anyway? After all, it's your anniversary!" Her tone was playful, teasing Olivia about the significance of the day.

Olivia's smile faltered slightly, a trace of worry creeping into her expression. "Today feels odd," she admitted, glancing at her phone for what felt like the fiftieth time. "I haven't been able to reach him all day. I tried calling, but he hasn't been picking up."

Carly leaned in, concern corroded her face. "Are you saying he hasn't called you since morning? That's strange..."

Olivia shrugged, trying to dismiss her growing apprehension. "It's strange, but I trust Richard. He's a mysterious man, always keeping me on my toes, so my hands are crossed." She chuckled lightly, attempting to soothe her own worries.

"I see," Carly replied, though her brows were still knitted with concern.

"Anyway, I'm so happy for you guys," Jensen interjected, her tone genuine. She had always been supportive of Olivia's relationship, even if she sometimes worried about her youthful enthusiasm.

"Thank you, Jen!" Olivia beamed, her spirits lifting at her words. "And if we're going to be planning a wedding soon, you both are already booked as my bridesmaids!"

Carly's face lit up with excitement. "Heaven yeah! I can't wait to try a beautiful dress and celebrate love!"

Jensen chuckled, shaking her head in mock disbelief. "Not that I object, but aren't you still too young to get married?"

Olivia rolled her eyes playfully. "Duh! It's Richard, and I don't care! When you know, you know. And I just feel... I don't know, like everything is falling into place."

As laughter bubbled between them, capturing the warmth of their friendship. The vibrant energy of the coffee shop, filled with the chatter of patrons and the rich aroma of coffee, faded into the background, leaving only the trio in their little world as they continue to talk and laugh.

In that moment, surrounded by friends and dreams of the future, Olivia felt alive, her heart beating in rhythm with the hope of what was to come. Little did she know, the excitement of the day would soon be eclipsed by unexpected twists testing the very foundation of her love story. For now, though, they savored the laughter, the camaraderie, and the sweet promise of love hanging in the air, blissfully unaware of the provocation that lay ahead.
