Chapter 16 - How can I ever repay you!

He nodded but only replied with: You need to go down the north stairwell, take one flight down and then you should be safe to take the elevator. Once you reach the bottom turn left and it will take you out of the lobby, I called a cab that should get here by the time you get out the front door.

"How can I ever repay you?"

"Just get you and your baby to safety"

I followed his instructions to a T and was met by the cab waiting outside. I got in told him to just drive for a moment, once we were far enough away I asked how much it would cost to drive me to Seattle, he told me it would be roughly $100, I checked the bag and thanked god for Dr. Saunders, I had exactly $250. I gave the driver the address and we were off. With traffic included it took an hour and a half to get where we were going which was a storage unit that only accepted cash, I had paid a year in advance which didn't cost too much seeing as it was in a bad neighborhood, I had gotten it when my parents passed in order to store their furniture and keepsake items I thought Olivia would want once she was older Olivia! I don't think they would hurt her, they wouldn't have a reason to. My parents bed was stored put together, so I rolled down the doors and laid down to sleep.

When I woke, I didn't know how long it had been but I was almost certain it had been at least a day, it was sunny when I came in here and it was sunny when I woke up but I know I had slept for a long time. I pulled out the cash that I had stashed here for safe keeping, there was exactly $69,000 left with half still in the bank but I couldn't touch that in case they were watching my accounts.

I stayed in the storage unit for about a week or so I thought, it was hard to keep track of the days due to my injuries, I had 3 broken ribs as well as a fractured collar bone, broken arm internal bleeding so I slept for most of the week trying to heel and only waking to buy food at the convenience store around the corner, that is when I could stomach to eat, even though I was headed into my second trimester I still felt sick at the thought of food I wasn't able to keep anything down accept milk, cheese and chips but there wasn't much options at the convenience store. I'd make it back to the unit with just enough energy to clean and bandage my wounds before passing back out.

I felt a little better after a week of pain killers and sleep, I bought a prepaid phone from the convenience store and called a cab to pick me up and bring me to a used car lot. I bought a black Subaru with dark tinted windows and drove to the hospital for the first time in almost 2 weeks to go see Olivia. Once I got there I used the lab coat to try not to be noticed. I made it to her room the lights were dimmed and I found her sleeping soundly. Seeing her after everything I had been through overwhelmed me and I started to cry, I sat down in the rocking in the dim light and rocked trying to sooth myself.

The light suddenly turned on and I a nurse walked in, she stopped in her tracks the moment she saw me as if she had seen a ghost: Lizzie? Oh my god Lizzie what happened to you? She was practically yelling and woke Olivia who started to cry when she saw me, she raised her hands for me to pick her up but I was unable to.

"Please Heather can you?" I nodded towards Olivia and sat back in the chair as nurse Heather lifted Olivia and set her on my lap. She stood looking at me with raised brows, waiting for an explanation.

"I… I was in a car accident, in… Tacoma. I was in the hospital for a while and just got out" Heather frowned as if she suspected that I was leaving out a few details but didn't press me further.

"Has anyone been to visit Olivia?"

"No not that I'm aware of."

"Heather, I am wanting to move to Portland Oregon, is there a way to transfer Olivia to the hospital over there? Or will she need to finish out her treatment here first"

"Well I know that doctors typically would rather their patient stay with them through the course of their treatment but if it is pressing it usually can be done, however considering the program she is in, I dont feel comfortable giving you a yes or no answer so you will need to consult with her doctor."

"Thank you Heather, would it be possible for you to get him for me?"

"Of course, if he's available"

Heather walked out of the room and I waited for what seemed like hours before the doctor came back in. He told me roughly the same answer as Heather did but seeing the state of me he looked at me as if he could tell I was running from something, he started the paperwork and after signing the appropriate documents he told me it would be at least a few days to a week before it would go through and I would be able to pick Olivia up. I pulled Heather aside and spoke in a hushed tone to ask for her help: Heather, I need to rest for a few days and I may not be able to come back until its time to pick up Olie, can you keep an eye on her for me? Also could you call me to let me know when its time to pick her up if I'm not back before then. Heather agreed and I left her my new number before leaving.

I picked up everything I could think to bring from the storage unit for our trip and went to a motel, I paid for a few days and rested while I waited for Olie to be transferred. Each day that went by felt like one day closer to being found, every time I left to pick anything up from the store, I felt paranoid as if someone was watching me. I finally got the call from Heather saying Olie was ready for pick up tomorrow.
