"Then what do we do Daniel, we cant just let them keep poisoning you" I said frantically but he grabbed my forearm's to calm me, he looked in my eyes till I gained my composure: I know it isnt Ideal but I will need to let them inject me with it until we can find a way to switch out the medication with saline or something and give me time to regain my strength if it isn't too late that is.
In the coming days I watched as they injected him, wincing each time and trying to not let them see the anger in my eyes. I had already watched their every move for a while and knew that there was only a few minutes between shifts that I would have to change out the bottles, I still had the picture of the bottle so I was able to buy lookalikes and put labels on them to match, I had to get enough to fill the cabinet with the exact amount in order to not be noticed. That meant I needed enough time to count every bottle before replacing them and the biggest of all issues was the lock on the door, there was no way in hell that I would ever be able to get the key to the lock, and if I broke it, they would surely know.
"How the hell am I supposed to get past the lock Daniel? I dont know how to pick a lock do you?"
"Yes actually"
"Your joking, why would the head of a massive conglomerate know how to pick a lock?" I looked at him quizzically.
He smiled and blushed before replying: Okay dont make fun of me but… I was a bit of a MacGyver fan as a kid and talked my dad into letting me take lessons to pick locks. My brows raised for one in shock that a anyone would allow their child to learn that kind of skill but more importantly, why the hell are there pic locking tutors? I laughed at myself because well, this is why someone should learn that skill.
"Okay but if you're going to pick the lock than you have to let me help you in the chair, there's no way in hell we can pull this off with Vlad getting involved and we don't know if he's involved or not."
"Okay, your right, so then you can help me get into the chair and bring me to the room and I will pick the lock for you to do the rest" I gave him a small knowing smile.
After I had everything we needed to not be found out I watched as the nurse sat in the kitchen going over her rounds with the incoming nurse, I quietly pushed Daniel down the hall, we got to the door and found that they changed the door handle so it has a lock as well: Daniel, do you think they know that we know?
"I think they suspect at the very least" Daniel leaned forward with his Jr lock picking kit across his lap, my heart was pounding as I waited for what felt like an eternity for him to unlock the door, in all reality it was probably only 30 seconds. The door opened and I let out the breath I was holding. We closed ourselves into the closet and I had to help him stand for him to reach the cabinet lock: Hmm
"What, what is it? Will you be able to pick it?"
"Yeah its just a little more complicated, one sec"
"Hurry, we only have a few minutes"
(Click) The lock opened and we both sighed in relief, I grabbed the bag over my shoulder and laid out the bottles as quickly and quietly as I could. Once I had emptied my bag I counted the bottles in the cabinet placing them one by one in my bag "23 bottles" I muttered as I started counting the bottles as I replaced them, there was only a minute difference between the bottles and I prayed they looked enough alike that no one would know the difference. I put all 23 bottles into cabinet Thank god I chose 30 count instead of 20 and we locked the cabinet back up as well as the closet before we left.
We were walking down the hall just as the two nurses rounded the corner out of the kitchen: Oh! Hello ladies!
My heart felt like it was going to stop when they both had a look of equal parts shock and suspicion, they looked behind of at the closet door, we had no reason to be on that side of the house unless we were coming back from somewhere but I kept smiling at them and pretended not to notice where their line of sight was. I broke the silence by saying: We just out for a walk and it was a bit chilly without our coats so we were about to get some coffee, would you guys like some?
"Uh, no thank you" They both said still looking at us suspiciously.
"Okay well, do you mind then?" I nodded at the direction behind them.
They realized they were blocking the door to the kitchen and excused themselves while stepping across the hall to allow us entry, we both smiled and thanked them as we walked past. I made us some coffee and we sat in the kitchen while drinking and talking to hopefully avoid suspicion. Secretly we were celebrating a job well done and were laughing and joking around.
"Whats so funny?" we turned to see Julia standing in the kitchen sneering at us.
"Oh nothing we were just laughing about something Olivia did to one of the nurses at the hospital"
"You haven't been back to the hospital have you? Jerry told me you went Daniel, I shouldn't have to tell you that going to a building full of sick people is a bad idea, your immune system is weakened so you could end up getting even more sick then you already are and you shouldn't be taking that risk for 1, because it puts you at greater risk but for 2, you haven't produced an heir yet." She glared at me as she said the last part.
I went to correct her and shove it in her face that I was pregnant but Daniel grabbed my hand and said: I actually made a decision on that. Elizabeth and I barely know each other, I want to wait until she feels comfortable first.
Her face went red and she looked like one of those cartoon characters that blow steam out their ears when they get too angry but before she could scream he told her: I know that you have concerns about me producing an heir so I froze my sperm and if I die before I produce an heir well there's enough in the bank to probably produce 10 heirs. Daniel laughed and her face seemed to relax, I know he didn't think she was the one who was behind it but I knew in my heart it was her.
She blotted the corner of her eyes as if tears were threatening to ruin her makeup and I couldn't help but scoff resulting in a dirty look my way as she spoke: You know I just want whats best for you Daniel, I know how important your fathers legacy is to you. Well I dont want to intrude any longer, I'll leave you to love birds alone.
She leaned over and kissed his cheek and nodded to me as she stood back up and walked out of the room. I walked up back to the bedroom and as soon as the door was shut I whisper yelled at Daniel: Tell me you see that she is behind this!
"I know that it seems that way but I also know there are many people who have access and the ability to be behind it"
"Then why didn't you let me her I'm pregnant, a part of you must know its her."
"Do I think its her? No. Will I risk you or my unborn child based on my gut telling me it isn't her? No. But Lizzie you didn't see my dad and Julia, they were inseparable and in love and I just can't believe she killed him without proof or at the very least, I'm not willing to make that accusation until I know more… I owe my dad that" I was certain that she was the one behind it but I understood why he would want to wait and get more information.
