"You care? I thought you—"

Knowing the direction he was heading in, she cut him off. "That isn't what I mean. What I am trying to say is that no one chooses their parents... We only deserve to be criticized if we choose to be a bastard."

"Besides, being an illegitimate child isn't so bad compared to an orphan who was supposed to die alongside her parents," Sabrina added, a pale look on her face.

Atticus, who didn't know whether to feel happy that she consoled him or feel sad about the fact that she felt guilty about her parents' death, walked up to her before hugging her.

He had been there and knew the feeling better than anyone else.

"Sabrina, it isn't your fault. You weren't responsible for their death, so don't wallow in self-guilt," his warm voice made her wish this was real.

She suddenly wished his sincere words, warm treatment, support, and care were real, but then it was all an act bound by a contract.
