Chereads / The "King's" Attendant In The Apocalypse / Chapter 50 - Broken weapon

Chapter 50 - Broken weapon

Ada was the one to make the first move while everyone was preparing. She shot towards the beetle at a speed of roughly about 30-40 mph, if constant. After nearing it, she leapt towards its face.

The flail in her hand lagged behind her before being swung with the force carried from Ada, her speed towards the side of the beetle's face followed by the sound of a—

BANG!

The flail head (Darren's head) connected with the beetle's head and caused it and its body to turn to the side, followed by cracks in its shell. Ada noticed a red and black stain on the beetle's face.

She landed on her feet before noticing a considerable amount of weight lessened in her hand. She turned to the side and stared at her flail.

"Aww... Maaan..." The attack made against the beetle caused the head to crack and explode. All she was left with was the spine before watching it deconstruct into mana and dissipate into the air like a swarm of fireflies.

["{Darren's Spinal Flail} has been destroyed"]

She sighed, "He was fun to use, I guess..." She stared at her hands with a disappointed and saddened expression.

After being dazed by the strike to its head, which was comparable to a light truck weighing 1800kg moving at a speed of 30-40mph, the beetle finally recovered and glared at the human.

The shell it just healed was now cracked. All the corruption it had been storing when it was resting before this has now been depleted due to that newcomer's attack.

It was about to charge at her before noticing resistance on its legs. Using the eyes on the side of its head, it could barely see what happened to its legs.

its legs were wrapped in a white "bandage", which was connected to threads attached to the ruined wall behind it. A figure with black hair appeared upside down over its right eye with a knife in hand - it was Amelia.

SCREEECH!

She plunged her knife into its eyes before hopping off of it and landing on the grass with a roll. The beetle thrashed its body, which caused the silk attached to the wall to snap and release.

The beetle glared fiercely at the human with the knives before sprinting towards her. When it neared and was about to swing its mandibles at Amelia, Everette dashed in front of it, followed by the cries of a dog.

"A Dog's Mourning!"

Wooooof!

The beetle stopped and paused. A look of hesitation was written on its face. It didn't know why, but after it saw the dog making a mourning expression, it couldn't help but hesitate to follow through with its attack.

Everette raised a brow as he stared at the beetle, "I was kind of gambling with this; I didn't think it would work on deaf enemies." He stared at his sword, which elicited a confused bark from Mourn - he also seemed to agree with Everette's confusion.

While the beetle remained still, Jack was in the back, nocking in an arrow into his bow made of the tips of a spider's legs. At the tip of the arrowhead was a ball of cotton, which he lit on fire.

"Let's see if this works!"

He shot the arrow towards the beetle's other eye. It whistled through the air, and the fire lit at the arrowhead went out due to the speed it was going.

The arrow plunged into the eye of the beetle, ultimately making it blind and deaf now. A look of disappointment spouted on his face. "Seems like that didn't work either..."

He had been trying to make use of his skill outside of cooking for a while and hadn't seen much progress. The hesitation debuff wore off after it was attacked again and made it begin charging in different directions in hopes of hitting something.

It was able to regenerate the hard parts of its body, not the soft ones. This meant that it was still bleeding inside from the cloaked individual's attack earlier.

Ada strutted casually over to Everette before placing his arm around his neck and leaning against him, "What's up, best buddy? Liking the new hit show, Dancing Beetle?"

Everette gave her a deadpan expression before flicking her forehead with his index finger. She reeled back while nursing her forehead. Ada pouted towards Everette with a hurt expression, "What was that for!?"

Everette's rolled his eyes, "We should finish it off while we have the chance." Ada just tilted her head at that.

"Just let it tire itself out. I bet it'll run out of stamina soon, with all its moving." She interlocked her fingers behind her head and leaned into it like it was some sort of headrest.

Everette then gave a surprise look, "Who're you, and what did you do to the real Ada?" This question elicited an annoyed expression on Ada's face.

"What do you mean? It's me!"

"The real Ada is a battle junkie!"

"You're the junkie!"

"Oh yeah, well—!"

The two then argued back and forth. Jack stumbled towards Amelia and couldn't help but chuckle at the scene. "They look like a married couple, don't they?"

The two heard this and immediately shifted their attention to the couple. Ada's expression was a happy expression, while Everette's face was tinted a bit red.

"R-Really? You guys think—?"

"A-As if I'll be married to this idiot!"

Everette turned to the side with his arms crossed. Ada's joyful expression fell at his statement before picking it back up and poking his cheek. "Aww~ Well, aren't you a tsu-tsu..." Ada tried to remember the word.

Everette then turned back with a flustered expression, "I AM NOT A TSUNDERE!"

"Ah! So that was the word, thank Everette!"

He just groaned in response before smelling the scent of smoke in the air. In the corner of his eye, Patrick, alongside Alice, walked over to them with wide eyes.

Patrick was without his black jacket, so he was just walking towards them with his buttoned-up white shirt and hands in the pockets of his black pants.

He pulled out his left hand before waving at them, "Yo! What's with the beetle, kids?" He and Alice heard a lot of ruckus while in the chapel and decided to come out and take a look.

"Should you be smoking?" Everette raised a brow.

"Like I said, kid..." He inhaled the cigarette before blowing out another cloud of smoke to the side.

"I'm fine..."
