"I see," Kai says as he tries to observe Janus without her—or the smiley and impish Marianne—noticing. "Are you wearing any now?"
"Only some concealer," she replies.
Truthfully, he cannot tell at all. Before this, he was under the impression that she did not have the habit of wearing any make-up given that she seemed to always show up to work bare-faced. But he also happens to be a straight man who only vaguely knows the difference between foundations and concealers so he can only take her word for it. She does not seem to be lying.
Besides, there's no reason to lie about things as minor as this. 'I suppose,' he realises, 'that she also wears a bit of concealer to work given that she looks the same as she always does. I guess she is really similar to Laney. Perhaps I have been too harsh towards Raylen.'
