Chapter 5 - The Phone

Another morning dawned!

Peering out the window, I was taken aback to spot a parrot perched right beside it. As I headed off for breakfast, my mind buzzed with plans for the day ahead. I mapped out my itinerary and set off to explore the city, eager to meet new faces along the way. Some of the locals were warm and welcoming, making conversation a breeze. I peppered them with questions about their city, and they responded with cheerful smiles. As the hours slipped by, I returned to my hotel to change clothes, feeling the sun's heat bearing down on me with a mischievous intensity. Upon entering my room, I noticed an unfamiliar smartphone resting on my bed. Curious, I picked it up and began searching for any hints about its owner. When I unlocked the device, the wallpaper caught my eye, stirring something deep within me. I couldn't quite place it, but I felt a shift inside! I found myself transfixed by the image of a girl, unable to tear my gaze away. Though I had no idea who she was, her distinct Indonesian features were unmistakable. I called for the bellboy and inquired, "I found this phone on my bed. Do you know anything about it?"

"Oh, sir! May I take a look?" he said eagerly as I handed him the phone. "Definitely not one of our staff," he declared after a quick inspection. "Please search for the owner. This is their property, and it could contain personal files or photos that shouldn't fall into the wrong hands," I instructed, reclaiming the phone. "Uh, yes, sir," he acknowledged before stepping out of my office. I pondered, "Whose phone could this be? Is it a girl's or a boy's? Aren't they anxious about losing it?" I placed the phone in the drawer, waiting for the rightful owner to appear or for any hint of their identity. I attempted to browse through the files but found them locked, with some hidden behind a keep-safe app. The following day, I shared the events of the previous night with my parents, and they reassured me, "Don't stress about it; just hand it over to the manager."

Sure, I'll hand it over once we're back from our visit; I stashed it in my drawer, I said as we hopped into the taxi, heading to the beach to soak up the summer sun. The beach was a fantastic destination, with the ocean sparkling invitingly and a plethora of activities to dive into. After a delightful time at the beach, we made our way back to the hotel and headed to the restaurant for dinner. Once dinner was finished, I retreated to my room, flopped onto the bed, and found myself lost in thoughts about the owner of the mobile before drifting off to sleep.
