Chapter 3 - Chapter 1: The Bet

!!THIS CHAPTER HAS BEEN UPDATED!!

[ Expressionless Awakener ]

A novel's existence only shows a particular person's main experience or lifetime.

But there would be hundreds of kinds of novels that exists in one world isn't it?

But there is rarely any kind of special person that has a special backstory... Nonetheless, An Extra of a novel would have.

Every normal mob is always the kind to be.... normal isn't it?

Plain... Bland... and pretty much neutral, Even more, A backstory that almost everyone has..

Being born to a normal family and to a normal life.

Basically, that's what i have always been....

Right?

I continued to walk back to my house while looking for my mom as i carried a bag of sugar.

My mom, who is currently inside the kitchen, suddenly got out of the kitchen while carrying a utensil.

Mom:"Did you buy what i asked for?" My Step-mom: Elizabeth Johnson, asked tilting her head.

"Yes" I nodded simply.

Mom:"I hope you didn't forget about the salt again" She spoke as she made a weird expression.

"...i was supposed to buy salt..?" I asked as the tip of my hair resembled a question mark.

My mom took the bag and looked through what i was carrying and saw that i had bought sugar instead of salt.

Mom:"You forgot about the salt again didn't you..?" My mom spoke to me like this isn't the first time I have done this.

I looked down at my feet then at my mom with pitiful yet expressionless-like puppy eyes as I spoke:

"I'm sorry."

Mom:"...It's fine, It's not like this is the first time you forgot about something." My mom spoke as she smiled gently, walking back to the kitchen to continue on cooking like usual.

Suddenly, my step-brother began to run out of his room to look for me as he screamed:

Brother:"KIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!"

"what do you want?" I spoke back coldly.

Brother:"Let's have a be-"

"No"

Brother:"So straightforward huh..?"

"Yup." I nodded coldly.

My Step-brother, Known as Micheal Johnson, Is usually the type to be... Really troublesome.

Micheal is one of those crazy types that would jump off a building to get what they wanted.

But he is an extra of the novel, So he is a normal person like any other.

Although he isn't actually the type to be very spoiled... He is just a bit more of a.... Well, It's a bit complicated.

One time, He made a bet with me to jump onto a very deep river when I was around 12 years old...

At that time, I didn't really want to do that kind of bet but the way he offered the bet kind of made me... agreed to it.

I can't help it tho, He offered limited-edition candy from my favorite shop so... I agreed to it without thinking twice.. I had the mind of a 12 year old so i couldn't help it!!

And well... Things got a bit too complicated.

Luckily, I knew how to swim so we were both saved,

and thus, getting scolded by our parents afterwards.. But at least I got the candy right?

.

.

Brother:"Oh C'mon!!! It's going to be F-U-N!" My brother spoke as he dropped on the floor and begged excitedly.

"The last time we had a bet, You made me lick ice cream...on the floor." I spoke back expressionlessly.

Brother:"It's not the same bet tho! I mean it is funny how you actually did lick ice cream on the floor."

"it wasn't funny tho."

Brother:"yeah yeahh... but anyway, Can we at least just do one bet. Just ONE bet.. please!!...."

Brother;"Pleasseeee...." He spoke as he begged me like a puppy, Giving me one of those puppy-eyed begging moments.

I sighed deeply;

"Fine....You still act childish even tho you're already 18."

Brother:"Yesss!" He cheered as he jumped up and down.

"So, What kind of bet is it?" I asked, tilting my head.

Brother:"You just turned 20.. Right?" He spoke as he replied.

"Yeah, My birthday was just a month ago."

Brother:"Will that's a good cause..."

"cause...??"

Brother:"The bet is.... Going into the most prestigious school in the country!"

I looked at my brother with a puzzled expressionless face as I spoke;

"The- what now.?"

Brother:"Y,know!! That one school named "Awakened Academy"? Worlds most powerful school in the World?" He spoke excitedly.

"Yea....but why?" I asked tilting my head.

Brother:"The bet is to attend it."

"What...." I spoke as confusion filled inside my thoughts.

"I... don't get it." I shook my head as i replied.

Brother:"That prestigious school has 5 slots for scholar students to attend their exam! whoever passes it is considered a smart person" He spoke as he tried to persuade me, wanting me to compete in the bet.

"Wha- But I'm too dumb to attend that-"

Brother:"Oh C'mon!, It's only a bet! If you fail the exam i'll give you 20 dolla-"

"Deal." I straightforwardly answered.

"When is the exam gonna start there?" I asked tilting my head.

Brother:"Tomorrow." He replied back.

"Tommorow? Whatever, I'll try to attend it."

Brother: "Heheh.. ok" He spoke as he grinned excitedly.

The next day went by and the exams started to be held inside the school.

Obviously, I attended it for 20 dollars of course.

During the exams, i was too dumb to know anything and continued on mumbling and overthinking what the answers were.. so i'll explain what Awakened Academy is and why it was so popular throughout the entire world.

The Awakened Academy is a prestigious school only opened for one of the best awakened students.

Most students who attended there are usually from Prestigious families.

The school provides Dorms that are basically luxurious, Expensive food that you don't even need to pay for and a lot of materials that if u break something there, you don't even have to pay for the damages and just write a letter of apology.

But that same school Is also extremely strict.

so strict that if u break at least 3 rules in that school, you are immediately expelled!

I'm not even sure how many students have been expelled there every year.

But Anyway, Children who aren't from prestigious families have a hard time going into that school since the pay fee is like over $100000 a month.

But for scholars, They can only pay about 95% of the fee.

And for the lessons, It's also extremely hard, Along with clearing dangerous dungeons that are considered as Group projects.

Some Students thought that the lessons are so hard that they even dropped out due to the stress they have been through.

Yikes... i do feel bad for them.. but anyway,

Awakened academy has its own ranking system from S-F ranks. There are about mostly B ranks in that school and the S ranks are considered rare and one of the best.

It's still a good school tho, Except that u have to go through school pressure life like bullying, rumours, gossip and stuff.

Although that is normal for every school right?

There are also strict teachers that can do whatever they want as long as they can teach the students.

There are other students that are basically famous inside and outside of the school.

Unlike me who is so ordinary that nobody in the world will even know me anyway.

So even if I looked like a half korean and half american guy, nor did i pass as a scholar, Nobody will give any attention to me unless i achieve something great or an incident that might shock them.

Also That school is only for awakened beings

so if you're not awakened, You can't attend it whatsoever.

But for me, I was already awakened when i was 18, but I don't wanna explain further so..

Basically.....This school is VERY expensive, Only for those students who have achieved greater heights or those who are only qualified to enter.

So, that's what "Awakened Academy" Was famous for.

.

.

I began to ponder as i continued to overthink.. So much, It started to hurt my head a little.

"What the...Why is it so hard..?...whatever I'll just add random answers, it's not like i would pass it anyway." I thought as i wrote whatever it came out of my mind, Giving myself random thoughts that have random answers through experience.

After all, It's just a random bet isn't it?

The exams were finished and all of the students began to do the second exam.

I was a bit puzzled at first since I thought there would only be one exam but when I realized what the second exam was for... It was kind of.. Reasonable.

And which is... clearing a dungeon.

"oh.."

I began to regret the bet i made with my brother, Not because of the second dungeon exam but because I was simply... weak.

But fortunately, I survived clearing that dungeon, Which the group of people there cleared it for me. Well, In summary, I was somehow very invisible, So barely any of my teammates noticed me, but I was able to clear the dungeon safely because of them, So it was all good.

Finally, After the exams were finished, I went back home.

"I'm back." I spoke as I opened the door to my house, Already almost late in the evening.

Mother:"Where were you?" My mom asked in concern, Somewhat worrying me of where I have been.

I began to stare at her nervously as I scratched my head.

'Should I tell her?' I thought.

"I went to the academy" I spoke as my ahoge wiggled slightly.

Mother:"Which academy?" She asked tilting her head.

"The famous one" I replied.

Mother:"Hold on... The most powerful school in the country!?"

"I tried to do the exam there.."

Mother:"But you're too dumb to pass that, Plus it's a school only for high-achieving students!"

"I know, I did that to purposely fail."

Mother:"Let me guess...,You made a bet again with your brother?"

"Yes" I nodded simply.

Mother:"Whatever, It's not like you will pass that exam anyway." My mom spoke sarcastically, Knowing the results when betting with my brother.

"Mhm." I nodded simply as I also know the result of the bet.

.

.

.

3 days have passed and a letter came by the door.

My sister, Who just came back from work, Took notice of the letter and took it inside.

Sister:"Mom! I'm back from work. I found this letter by the door." My Eldest step-sister: Rosalia Johnson, Spoke as she took off her heels and waved the letter on her hand.

Rosalia Johnson, My step-sister, which is currently the oldest, Is known to be one of those Sisters who has a mother-like figure.

She was neutrally smart, and well-competent in her life, Basically like an extra.

She was also the first person to have ever greeted me when I met her the first time when my step-parents introduced me to them, So she was a really nice sister.

She is also a caretaker of my brother, So she often scolded him for the messes he made in the past.

She is still like that till this day, So it's nice to have a sister like her during those days.

My mom, Who was about to greet my sister, Stared at the letter she was holding.

Mother:"Rosalia, You're back! And That letter.... I think It's for kim."

Sister:"Kim? Like my step-brother; kim johnson..?"

Mother:"Yea" She nodded.

Sister:"But this letter looks so expensive and its very well written...Why would it be for kim?" She tilted her head as she felt slightly puzzled.

Mother:"I think i know where that letter came from.. just give it to kim, his gonna get rejected anyway."

Sister:"Rejected? Alright, fine."

My sister began to walk inside the house until she eventually went inside my room and gave me the letter.

She also looked at me with a weird expression, which I didn't really get why she was making that expression.

"What's this..?" I spoke as she handed me the letter.

Sister:"It's a letter." She replied.

"I know it's a letter but what is it for?" I tilted my head.

Sister:"I don't know! Just open it!"

"mm...ok"

I opened the letter carefully and began to read what's inside.

[ "Congratulations Kim johnson!

You have passed the examinees as 5th place as a scholar in the school of Awakened Academy.

Although you didn't do much in clearing the dungeons, You got the highest score in your written exams... making you pass as 5th place!

We will happily welcome you next week!

Ps.

We'll lend you a school uniform by next week and remember to wear this scholar badge in the school so that we will know you are a scholar that passed the exams, So please do not lose it!" ]

The letter was written in a font which was well-written and was sent to my house like the usual old-school, So I was a bit shocked as i read it thoroughly at the letter.

As soon as i put the letter on my desk, I took the badge and began to think for a while.. Looking at it for a few seconds like a blank person.

Confusion began to fill up my thoughts...

The ahoge of my hair began to move and resembled a confused question mark.

"Huh..?"

"Huh..???"

"HUHH.....????????"

I mumbled as my eyes widened by a centimeter.

Sister:"Why are you confused?" My sister asked as she heard my mumbles.

"I don't know..." I replied.

Sister:"What do you mean you don't know??"

"I don't know..." I said in a confusing way possible.

My sister quickly took the letter from the desk and read the paper carefully.

Sister:"you....."

Sister:"YOU PASSED....???" My sister's eyes widened.

Sister:"Which school did you attend!?"

"The famous and powerful one."

Sister:"YOU MEAN....?!!" My sister shouted from confusion, already knowing which school I was transferred to.

"Yup" i spoke expressionlessly as i stared at my sister's shocked face.

Sister:"How.....?? you're too dumb for that school, Will you even survive in that school!? and did you cheat!?

My sister asked confusingly in a concerned manner.

"No, i didn't cheat.. It was a coincidence."

"I only added random stuff on my written exams..."

I shook my head as I tried to explain it to my sister.

Sister:"Then how com-"

Before she finished her sentence my brother banged on the door as he went inside the room.

Brother:"YOU PASSED!!????" He spoke, Shocked yet   giggling somehow.

"Yea" I nodded nervously.

Brother:"PFFT HAHAHHA-"

Brother:"-I thought you would fail tho!?"

"Same."

Brother:"Oh will, You owe me 20 dollars."

"...wha-"

My mom, Who suddenly heard everything, went straight inside the room as my dad followed her due to curiosity as he just got home from work.

Mother:"YOU PASSED???!!" My mom was stunned and surprised.

Father:"who passed..?" My step-dad, Miguel johnson, Asked as he peeked inside my room door.

Mother:"Your adopted son!" My mom replied.

Father:"Oh... congratulations, kim! We should celebrate this!

Mother:"Yea! We should celebrate this!" She spoke in an excited tone.

"But I don't know how i pass-"

Mother:"Doesn't matter!, You passed anyway!"

Father:"Yeah we should celebrate tomorrow!"

"oh..ok."

My parents began to run back down the stairs while they prepared the "celebration", While my brother began to laugh like some chick along with my sister that is filled with confusion, with question marks around her.

Brother:"Lollll...I cant believe you passed....."

Sister:"How....How....How-??"

"I'm confused also.... well, it doesn't matter. I got into that school because of a bet and now I'll start going to that school next week." I answered.

my sister sighed.

Sister:"Well, whatever....It's none of my business. Good luck anyway." She spoke as she walked outside my door.

Brother:"But that also means you won't see us anymore." My brother spoke in a slight sad-expression, Knowing I will no longer do any of the bets he randomly makes.

"I know." I replied.

Brother:"You will visit us right?"

"Probably not."

"I'd probably be too busy to visit."

i mumbled.

Brother:"Oh I'm sure you will."

Both of my siblings walked back into their rooms while i laid on my bed and began to wonder if it really is a coincidence or not.

'I wonder.... if this is a coincidence..?' I thought as i continued to lay on my bed.

'... Whatever....It already happened....'

'Not like i would care anyway..'

But i still wondered if it is true.

whether this is a dream or not...

I then wondered if I could get any friends there too..

probably not but.. still...

After that..I went back to sleep.
