The battle raged for a while now and the beasts were still being killed by the hundreds with the use of any weapon that humans had in their arsenal but it was simply not enough.
The barrier was now under constant attack and the cracks became larger and larger with each passing moment.
Despite their best efforts humans simply were not able to kill the beasts fast enough and the new ones constantly came from the forest like a never-ending tide.
-Paul we can't keep it up, If you have any other Ideas this would be a good time to use them.
Anna said while sending arrow after arrow killing one beast after the other.
-Sorry to disappoint you but I'm out of ideas right now.
He answered between his shots.
There was nothing more that he could do at the moment as any idea he had right now would require technology from Earth and they didn't have any not to mention that it would not work in this world.
-Paul, what is that?
The girl suddenly asked just as he was picking up the next quiver of arrows from the box next to him.
He looked at Anna and she was terrified, the same as the others around him.
When he finally looked at what the hell terrified them all so much he went pale himself.
Nine stage six beasts came out of the forest and they didn't look friendly.
-Oh shit.
Was all he could say at the moment.
Everyone was thinking the same thing.
-We are so dead.
They had nothing that could stop these behemoths in their arsenal and the strongest cultivators they had were only stage four not to mention that there were only two of them.
After the initial shock passed Paul started to think what to do.
The escape was impossible, even with the transport spells they would still be hunted down soon enough.
They had no weapon that could take these creatures out and even the spice bombs would most likely just piss them off or if they were extremely lucky scare them off for a while but in the end, they would be back sooner or later to finish the job if their weaker friends didn't do that first.
The situation was dire and everyone knew it.
However, the desperation brought an unforeseen change.
Every cultivator started to fire arrows even faster, trying to kill as many beasts as he or she could.
If they were to die here then they would make sure to take as many beasts with them as they could.
This changed the situation at the front line and the beasts for the first time were dying faster than they were able to approach the barrier.
Without worrying about the arrow supplies everyone started to shoot two or three arrows at once.
The bombs were also thrown without holding back, making the battlefield a living hell for any beast that was in range.
While this was going on Paul and a few others were thinking about a way to get rid of the nine behemoths that were closing in.
-Too bad we can't just teleport them away.
One of the cultivators said.
This gave Paul an Idea.
-Can you make a transport spell circle?
He asked the mages.
-Yes we can but we won't be able to send them away even if we use all our mana.
-You are right but we don't have to send them away.
Paul said with a sudden smile.
-What do you mean?
-All we need to do is remove the safety part of the spell that prevents it from transporting anything bigger than the circle itself.
He tried to explain his idea.
-I still don't follow you.
One of the mages said.
Since he was not able to explain it, Paul decided to show them.
He took out his transport circle and erased a part of it leaving everything else the same.
-This is my idea.
He said showing them the spell circle.
-But that will only transport whatever is inside of it without stopping if the target is too big so the transported …
Just as the mage said these words did he understand what Paul wanted to do.
-Young man I don't know if you are a genius or simply crazy but if this works then you will be famous around the world.
With these words, they all started to create more transport circles.
Paul in the meantime went to Anna and Fei Fei to get their circles and changed them to be used in his plan.
The only good thing in the situation was that the beasts didn't charge and they seemed amused by the human's efforts to stop them.
This gave them the time they needed to execute the plan.
With the three spells that Paul now had and the ones created by the other mages they now had thirteen spells so Paul gathered the strongest cultivators and explained the plan to them.
-You only need to activate the spell before you fire the arrow and make sure that it will hit the target without bouncing off.
We only have one chance at this since the beasts will start to protect themselves the moment they figure out that this might be dangerous to them.
Everyone understood the seriousness of this endeavor.
If it worked then they would still have a chance to win but if even one of the beasts survived then it was all over for them.
The arrows were prepared and the archers were ready and waiting for the beasts to come closer for an easier shot.
Every one of them charged the arrows with their qi to make sure that they would pierce the beast's skin and stay on them until the spell did its work.
When the beasts were around fifty meters from the barrier they released their arrows praying to all the gods for this plan to succeed.
The beasts didn't even try to avoid the incoming projectiles thinking that there were no arrows that could do more than just scratch them.
To their shock, they felt the arrows hit and pierce their skin before they started emitting blue light that quickly turned into thirteen pillars of blinding light.
The beasts panicked not knowing what was going on but it was already too late and just a few moments later the light disappeared leaving quite big holes in their place.
Four of the beasts were hit in the head and once the light disappeared they fell to the ground dead with big gaping holes in their skulls.
Another three were hit close to their hearts and they didn't live much longer barely taking a few steps before collapsing with a loud thud, crushing some of the weaker beasts under their massive bodies.
One beast was trashing on the ground with a hissing sound coming out of its mouth.
The arrow hit it straight in the neck and the spell removed its windpipe along with a sizable chunk of its throat.
It had not much time to live as it was now suffocating and bleeding out at the same time.
The last beast was down on the ground roaring in pain but nobody could see its wound.
Nonetheless, they all shouted in joy as the most dangerous beasts were just taken out.
This sight made the other beasts stop in their tracks and some even started running away terrified at this sight.
However, the happiness quickly turned into gasps of disbelief when the last beast stood up once again leaving one of its front legs on the ground.
This beast was some kind of wolf that Paul had never seen before even in books and despite its wound that might even cause it to bleed out it was furious.
The moment it stood up the beast attacked and broke the barrier with minimal effort allowing the weaker beasts to enter and attack the wall.
The bombs under the wall killed some beasts and a few more barrels of oil, added with incendiary bombs roasted hundreds more but just like the last time there were simply too many of them, and the wolf creature was not done yet.
