Not much time had passed before Lisa returned to her senses and decided to push herself away from those warm arms warping around her body.
Emma might not have touched Lisa's body directly, but being close enough to the taller female made Lisa's body burn.
These feelings inside Lisa were new, and they made her feel scared. She did not know what she was feeling, but it scared Lisa.
"I…should head home now. Thank you for calming me down."
Lisa could not even look Emma in the face when she spoke before quickly leaving.
Perhaps this was the start of a crush for her, or fear had finally made Lisa mad. But she wanted to turn around and get to know Emma more.
Something in Lisa was encouraging Lisa to turn back and stay with the black-haired female.
'Fuck! I need to sleep this all off. I think I've lost my mind already.'
...
"She left. She's so cute that I want to bite and claim her again. But before that, I should take care of the puppy that decided to attack what is mine."
Emma Rose's golden eyes were fixated on Lisa's running figure.
Her cold voice had just a hint of fondness, but it was full of more emotion than she had shown in the past decade.
That was how she knew she had it bad for Lisa.
Emma's steps made no sound as she walked into the alley and smelled of the attacking shifter.
A familiar sharp scent of blood reached her, and Emma immediately followed it to its source.
It was not surprising for her to see a dead shifter lying in front of her, but the black-haired man kneeling beside it was someone she knew very well.
Those red eyes looked at Emma with accusing eyes and a gentle smile. That facade was broken apart by those bloody hands and the bloody fangs reflecting the sun.
"Ah, so the mighty alpha finally made her way here. You should control your mutts better. This one almost ended up killing Lisa. But I am sure you know that. You ran into her just outside, right?"
Nick Lawrence was a problem and a powerful one at that.
Emma Rose wanted nothing more than to kill him on the spot, but the treaty prevented her from harming an elder and a royal vampire whenever she wanted.
"Don't talk to me as if you are any better. You were watching Lisa this whole time. But you decided not to help her out, even when you could. What is it that you want from her? It cannot be her blood since you would have sucked her dry already."
After all, this creep had been watching Lisa ever since she was a child. Nick Lawrence had known Lisa since childhood, but he kept her alive.
It ticked Emma off, and she wanted to make things clear to this bloodsucker.
"Listen here, you brute! It no longer matters what your reason was for approaching Lisa. You will stay away from her. If not! Then you need to die right now."
Emma threatened the man before her, and her hands turned into claws that could rip anything apart.
It ticked her off when Nick Lawrence did not even bat an eye in her direction as he stood up and snapped his finger.
The fire covered the dead werewolf's body, burning it apart to leave no trace of what had happened behind.
"That's a lovely proposal. Unfortunately, I will have to decline it. Lisa is too precious to me to give up on. I have also known her for a long time. Why don't you give up on her instead? You've only known her for a few days-"
Emma swiped her claws to hit the black-haired male. But he was too quick for her to strike.
"Stop spouting nonsense. You knew as well as I do that I can no longer choose anyone else. I already bit Lisa to indicate that she is my mate. If you continue to be difficult, then I will have no choice but to kill you."
That was a threat Emma promised to keep. But the leech in front of her kept smiling his disturbing smile.
"Oh! I see! Is that all you have to say? I know a way or two to break this 'bond' of yours. Would you like to try it out?"
Nick asked, but Emma did not have it.
Seeing how Emma had no intention of backing down from this fight, Nick just sighed in disappointment.
"Well, since neither of us will back down, how about we let Lisa choose who she wants to be with? We can both try and court her. It won't be a bad idea for Lisa to have someone else keeping her safe."
Emma felt that Nick felt relieved to have more people look after Lisa. But whatever he was planning, Emma had no intention of being a part of it.
"Well, continue your planning on how to kill me, but I assure you that it will be unsuccessful as for Lisa's matter. Hmm, maybe I will let you stick around for now. Having 'the alpha' of the werewolves around would be a safety net for Lisa."
Even if Emma wanted to catch the noble vampire, it was too late. He was already gone by the time his words echoed inside the alley.
"Tsk, that vampire left me with a mess to clean up. Shit! Now that someone has died in my territory, I will need to call for a meeting and clear things up. I do not doubt those old fools will try to start something with me. They are always annoying and looking for ways to upset my position."
Emma did not like sticky situations but was willing to throw herself into one to help Lisa.
It was all because Emma had fallen in love with the human when she saved Emma from those poachers.
Emma would have gotten free herself, but fate had other plans. It had made Emma fall hard and fast enough to mark the human.
"There is no going back for me now. I will have Lisa one way or another. As for that Vampire…he can die in a ditch for all I care. But one thing is certain - I will not let him have Lisa as his."
