"Go back!"
"Make me go back! I am not going to head back until Lisa tells me to. You will not tell me to head back, right Lisa?"
With two people speaking simultaneously, Lisa found concentrating on what was happening around her difficult. Whatever was being said entered her ear from one side and exited it from the other.
Her lack of response did nothing to deter the duo from fighting. It felt like these two were here because they wanted to fight each other, not because they wanted to be with Lisa.
'Somehow, I don't even feel disappointed by being ignored. After all, who confessed to me ever did it because they liked me.'
In this case, Nick seemed to have found his soul mate even before Lisa agreed to go out with him. The curse seemed to be getting stronger.
Lisa knew she was not the only one who saw the chemistry between the fighting pair.
Many others sighed as they watched their chances of being with either transfer drain out of the window.
People shot Lisa's glares filled with envy, not realizing that Lisa was in the same boat as they were - ignored by the pair as they argued against each other.
Lisa felt neglected by the arguing pair for the second time that week. But she had learned to take it in stride and make her presence not be felt.
Lisa was unsure whether she had succeeded in her attempt, but Emma did drag her wrist at the end of lunch to drag her back to the classroom.
The last thing Lisa saw was Nick's gentle smile, looking back at her.
"Don't fall for his tricks. That man might look harmless, but he's worse than you can imagine. He and his kind are all selfish pricks who will leave you behind if it means saving them any discomfort."
Emma was highly biased toward Nice, and it sounded more than personal.
Somehow, Lisa was sure this bias was mutual, and Nick would say the same thing about Emma but in a more polite voice.
"Anyway, I am trying to say - come to me if you need anything. I have enough money and resources to get you out of trouble. So tell me! Do you have any problem you want help with?"
Emma's eyes were honest and insisting. She was the kind of girl who was firm in her beliefs and refused to back down.
That much self-confidence made Lisa want to bear her soul to the other female and tell her everything that happened.
But the second Lisa opened her mouth, words got stuck in her throat.
Emma looked disappointed at Lisa's lack of answers but did not say anything to Lisa. She did not even show that she was affected by Lisa's actions and quietly turned to continue walking.
When Emma looked at her, time seemed to stop and restart when she turned around.
Lisa's heart and her chest felt heavy.
The older female would have understood her if she said anything to Emma.
Emma may even be the savior Lisa has been waiting for all her life.
But that moment passed, and the conversation weighed on Lisa's mind for the remainder of the day.
Emma was by Lisa's side as soon as the bell rang, and the older female intended to follow Lisa to her home.
But fate had other plans for them.
The teacher entered the room right on time and spotted Emma.
Lisa was ignored, which meant the teacher did not have the time and patience to deal with her. But that was fine with her.
"Emma Rose, right? Can you stay behind today? The principal has asked both you and the other new student."
The teacher walked past Lisa, and her shoulder smacked Lisa in the face. It hit the same side, and Lisa was injured, but the pain was surprisingly less than Lisa had anticipated.
From the side-eye Lisa got from her teacher, it was evident the older female had seen Lisa. The older woman had just not cared enough to notice Lisa when reaching for Emma.
The next few seconds flashed across Lisa's eyes, and she jumped back in shock.
Emma slammed their teacher into the table, and her eyes seemed to glow an unnatural gold.
It reminded Lisa of the enormous wolf she had saved a few days ago. Even the noises Emma let out sounded threatening and it made Lisa shiver.
"Lisa, head out without me. I need to talk to our dear teacher. I promise I will accompany you back home tomorrow."
Emma's words could hardly be considered human. But Emma's mind interpreted them just fine!
In fact, she interpreted them so fast that she was out of the room before Emma finished speaking.
When her heart skipped a beat this time, she knew it was out of fear. It was threatening to choke her.
Lisa was so disturbed that she did not notice where she was walking.
It caused her to crash directly into the man in front of her.
Strong arms caught Lisa before she fell, and a hard chest greeted Lisa's hands when she tried to push herself away.
"What's wrong? You looked spooked! Did you see a ghost? Do you want me to chase it away?"
Nick joked around, and Lisa took a deep breath before pushing herself away from the taller male.
She had known that Nick was tall, but she had not realized how tall he was until now. He was a whole foot and a half above Lisa in height, and it was embarrassing for Lisa to realize that the part she had been considering a 'chest' until now was Nick's stomach.
It was hard, and it felt solid to touch.
But whatever peace Lisa had found was broken by the pain-filled yell. It came from the classroom Emma was in with their teacher.
Lisa did not even want to imagine what was happening there because she knew she would regret it.
But Nick was different from her.
His eyes narrowed when he looked at the classroom, but his smiling face returned to look at Lisa soon enough.
