"I know we've known each other for a while, but we should break up now. It's not you, it's me! I just found the person I want to be with for the rest of my life. I'm sorry! I will take my leave now."
Lisa looked at her 24th boyfriend with tired eyes.
Had this been Lisa's first time experiencing this, she would have raged and demanded that her ex-boyfriend tell her the reason behind his decision.
However, Lisa no longer had the willpower to ask this question.
The human heart was fickle, and there was no telling when it might change its mood.
"Hey, are you angry with me? Say something to me! Your silence is scaring me. Don't tell me…you are thinking of putting a curse on me?"
The boyfriend…ehm, the ex-boyfriend, looked stressed, his eyes looking at Lisa and waiting for her to explode.
"It's okay! If you want to break up, then we should. There is no point in dragging this relationship around more than we have already."
Lisa agreed quickly, causing the people around her to gasp at her cold and uncaring tone. But she believed there was no point in wasting energy and emotions on useless things.
Her ex-boyfriend looked shocked at Lisa's cold-hearted reply. His eyes looked away from Lisa's face, and he could not face her because of his guilty conscience.
But he still wanted to insist that it was not his fault! His mind wanted…no, it needed this to be Lisa's fault so that he could make himself feel better.
"You see! This is why we are breaking up! I just asked you for a break-up, and you did not try to hold me back! I might have stayed if you put a little more effort into our relationship-"
"Would it change your decision to break up? If I beg you not to leave me-! If I grab your pants and cry my heart out, will you not break up with me?…. See, even you know you will not stay with."
Lisa stood up and took a step toward her ex-boyfriend, her aura causing that man to flinch and take a step back instantly…only to realize that he was still sitting on the chair.
There was nowhere for him to go, and Lisa's presence must have made him feel trapped.
Lisa instantly pulled herself back once she noticed her ex was no longer replying. After Lisa pointed out his flaws, he had yet to talk.
"It looks like we have nothing else left to discuss. I should take my leave now. I have work to do back home, and my mother is expecting me home by now."
It was far easier for Lisa to walk away from her ex-boyfriend.
The first time had been impossible, and Lisa had taken an hour to recover, but every other time after that had become easier and easier.
Before she knew it, Lisa was in front of her house. She took a deep breath before forcing the door open.
*creekkkk*
The door opened, and the ominous feeling filled Lisa as she entered her cold, empty home.
"Mother, I am back home. I hope you had a nice time…"
Lisa called out as soon as she entered the home but did not receive a reply even after a minute.
The woman Lisa had been calling ignored her existence, but it was a *preferred* occurrence for Lisa. She would rather not have her mother's attention centered on her.
'It looks like Mother is in a happy mood today. Her boyfriend must have come by and gifted her some money. I wonder how long this money will last. I need to pay my tuition soon. Should I steal some money?'
After all, Lisa can only earn so much by working part-time and saving up. And with her breakup situation, she must find ways to get by.
Loneliness was a more prominent opponent than money was at times at times.
'Alright, this will be fine! I'll borrow money from my mother tonight, and she will not even notice. Maybe that will be enough to distract me from my misery.'
Lisa Grace deserved so much more, but her life and luck did not agree with her.
That was why, whenever Lisa dated anyone, they broke up with her within a week with the same excuse - they had found their soul mate.
After 21 years of living in over 24 relationships, Lisa felt tired. All she wanted was for someone to care, and her mother or father would not fill that hole.
This all started with her *second* boyfriend after her first one disappeared on her. Her second boyfriend had been a gentle soul and encouraging as well.
He had helped Lisa understand that she did not need to bow to her mother and that she had a future where she could be free of her.
'That asshole also promised me that he would help me break free, and then he had a gall of cheating on me with his childhood friend! I let me off too easily.'
Lisa had been young back then and also broken-hearted. She did not have the emotional capacity to do much else but cry.
However, her current self was different. She had changed a lot from her 15-year-old naive self.
The same could not be said about her luck in dating, though.
"I feel like I was cursed. I'm sure it was that first one (first boyfriend) who disappeared on me that cursed me. He did say that he would not let anyone else have me if he could not have me himself. Plus, he talked about magic and fate and whatnot! And now I am babbling! I should focus now! I need to get my money and keep it safe."
With one last sign, Lisa threw her covers and decided to head downstairs.
The clock had finally hit midnight, and her mother should have been smashed by now. It was finally time for Lisa to stash money away while she could.
In the dead silence of the night, Lisa finally opened the door to her room and walked out.
