Chapter 11 - The logic of betrayal

Staring at the flickering screen, the grainy footage of the escaping suspect unfolding.Analysing anything of significance, the way they shifted, the way they reacted to the fall, searching for any signs which can be used. Sighing, i lean back into my chair, running on little sleep, i'm almost comparable to a machine. "Dr Wilson" a voice echoes through the door, realising i must not have heard a knock i reply. "Enter". My gaze rise's to the door watching someone walk in, i believe they are in the interrogation unit. "Sorry for the intrusion Dr, but we have finished interrogating all of the people from the protest about the suspect that escaped, and some remember her being present, yet no one talked to her it would seem" Disappointing, yet i cannot complain, i am always up for a challenge. Standing from my seat and turning my computer off i voice back "That is fine, send me the full report on each individual" whilst motioning for him to leave. Hm, i wonder, no definite evidence of the identity, even if we monitor all hospital logs for a surgery we will need to get their in time, which may prove to be a difficult task. Walking out of the room i head towards the medical facility i led that women to, wait... Shit. My leg's move before my thoughts even register, i begin sprinting to the closest alarm. Ripping the glass off i slam my hand down as i continue sprinting to the medical facility. How could i be so unintelligent?

The harsh, metallic shriek of the alarm pierced the sterile silence throughout the hall's of the laboratory, jolting everyone from their tasks. Red lights flashing casting a luminous glow of the wall's and machinery. The workers going into procedure's, locking down their sector's. The escape's to the outside slam shut, lock with a dull metal shutter dropping infront of them echoing a crash. yet within these noice's the sound of near stomping make's way as Dr Wilson reaches the medical facility entrance.

Mere minutes before the alarm, "Why are you here? You should not be here? you will compromise my position. You need to leave now!" Dr Goults voice trembled. The atmosphere tense with the pressure of impending worry. "I was brought here by the Dr, what could i have done? He saw i was injured, it is a miracle he hasn't put the fact's together already" Rose's voice's back laced with distress. Being motioned to get on the table Rose is helped up, "Before anything, we need to sort out this leg, there won't be enough time to do anything significant so for now i will apply an injection that will ease the pain and increase the efficiency of white blood cell's" Dr Goult open's a draw and pick's out a syringe and bottle. filling the syringe he walk's back over and pushes the syringe in through the saphenous vein. Rose, grimacing with pain, clatter's her teeth. "All done, you need to escape now, before the alarm goes off, i will open the entrance to the tunnel, take this scan of my biometric's to power the engine" But within an instance, the alarm blared intruding the laboratory. Instant fear settle's on both face's. Dr Goult start's destroying his own office, paper's fly, cabinet's topple, the seat fall's, the entrance open's and these word's he utter's. "Hurt me, make me look defeated, it is the only way for me to get away with this, i beg of you" Passing over the folded sheet containing his biometric data he stand's tall, fully facing Rose as she get's off the table. Eye meet's eye, understanding meet's desperation. The first fist fall's as an eye bruise's and Dr Goult fall's back yet no sound was released, true determination. The second fist worse than the first with the help of falling down the sound of a nose break sound's throughout the office. Rolling over as blood stain's the floor covered in paper's and broken glass furthering the damaged state of Dr Goult. Tear's begin to fall down Rose's face because of what she has to do, a bottle, held in her hand smashes against his back ripping his lab coat creating a flurry of cut's as blood leak's out. The final fist crashes onto his rib's. Standing up, rushing to the opened entrance Rose stumble's down the tunnel's to what she can only hope is the engine.

I slam the door open to the medical facility, noticing nothing out of the ordinary except the lock down procedures being completed, scanning the room for the person i brung in i cannot find anyone, my gaze wonder's to Dr Goults office, rushing over i open the door. The usual sterile sight's no more as papers lay scattered across the floor, equipment lay overturned, and his body beaten and bloodied. I shout help, hearing the rush of feet behind me. "Attend to him, quickly" Watching them take out his unconscious body i study the room, an entrance, small in size, look's deep. Blood drip's going inside. This women must be the suspect, but why come into this room first, did she know this tunnel. No, that cannot be. Even i did not. Then why, i left her at the entrance to the main facility and she would of walked in and gotten treated. There must be a factor i am missing, Walking toward's the open draw, his medicinal draw, everything seem's to be in rough order, yet one is missing. Why? We are doctor's, thing's do not go missing, and he does not deal with injuries such as the potential suspect's. Wait, shit, that might be it, where is his medicinal log's, shifting through the document's, the second's become few minute's till i finally find it. His last log, yesterday, that simply doesn't add up. After every usage of medicine it should be logged on paper and the database, Dr Goult has done this fine for the entirety of the time he has been working. Wait, was he.. no, he couldn't of been. But all the evidence point's to it. Taking multiple sample's of the blood i rush to my lab. Running the test's only one result show's. Dr Goult, if he was there unconscious with so much damage to his body he must of been able to fight a bit back to give injuries that bleed, yet the sample's i took all lead to one DNA. That must mean he didn't fight back which would make sense if he was knocked out by the first assault, yet what would the point be of injuring him further when the goal would be to escape. There is no logic behind it. I can only come to one conclusion, that somehow, Dr Goult requested this much damage for a cover up, a traitor to the government, a betrayal.

A knock of his office door, "Come in" Dr Wilson announce's his voice holding it's monotonous tone. The door open's as doctor enter's the room, "Dr Goult can be seen, he is fully awaken and most of his minor injuries healed" A nod of Dr Wilsons head as they both take leave from the office heading towards the location of Dr Goult. Dr Wilsons mind racing through a multitude of scenarios of what to do with the traitor, coming up to the door and entering he commands the leave of everyone from within. The stale white light shine's throughout, with a hospital bed in the middle surrounded by equipment. Dr Goult look's up making eye contact, meeting the icy eye's Dr Wilson. "I have submitted a report of what happened" are the first word he mutter's with little confidence in his tone. "I apol.." Dr Wilsons hand rise's, a simple gesture, yet a strict command. "At 1:32pm on the 13th of October at Tuesday i have deemed Dr Goult to be executed on the 20th of October at midday" Zero-degrees, that is what the room feel's like, "I did it for freedom you know, i did it to break the curse of the government, i did for the people who do not know what it mean's to be human, yet i do not expect you to understand, the devil's emissary to earth" A chuckle, a laugh. It fill's the room. "Has the logician got no word's, for once are you speechless" Dr Goult chuckle's out. "Even if i find no logic in this betrayal, you seem to have, and for that, i will execute you myself"
