Kaelen took a deep breath, forcing himself to think rationally as he assessed the situation at hand. Evidently, he was definitely lost. But this didn't feel like a shifting forest. He'd been through that before, and he knew the disorienting, nauseating sensation that came with trees and paths physically moving around him. No, this one felt different.
Maybe he'd somehow crossed into an illusion, a pocket of reality. Or perhaps the forest was enchanted, spinning some sort of mental web that clouded his senses and forced him to loop back over and over. He considered the possibility of a localized spell, one that disguised the landscape, making it seem like he was moving forward when, in reality, he was staying in one place.
But then, another thought struck him—a different yet simple theory altogether.
