Chapter 59 - A Gateway's Promise

Kaelen was laying on a narrow lower bunk inside of a certain room, the ship's gentle rocking was barely noticeable amidst the hum of the lower deck. The room itself was slightly cramped, with only a bunk bed and a small wooden table bolted to the floor. The light from a flickering lantern was hanging overhead—casting long shadows on the walls, giving the cabin an almost eerie atmosphere.

He raised his hand to the ceiling, staring at the bandages wrapping his palm—a temporary fix pulled from one of Bastia's massive backpacks. He smirked at the thought of her hauling around enough supplies to patch up a small army, then sighed as he flexed his fingers gingerly.

From above, Thane's voice cut through the low creak of the ship's timbers.

"What a trip, huh?"

"Sure is..."

He lowered his hand, resting it on his chest.

"Although, gotta admit, it felt kinda awkward being the only one here all banged up."
