Chapter 2 - Hello, I Want a Divorce

"Go ahead," Bill handed his ID card to the assistant.

"Yes, Mr. President..."

The assistant was about to say "Mr. President," but a sharp look from Bill made him swallow the words.

He quickly corrected himself, "Yes, sir. Please wait a moment."

Wiping cold sweat from his forehead, the assistant walked ahead. Seeing that the suspect was some distance away, Juliet lowered her voice and asked, "Is there anything else you need my help with? Should I just follow you?"

Her voice was so low and sneaky that she almost seemed like a thief.

Bill frowned.

"Everything is arranged! The marriage registration is just a formality. But if you're regretting this now, the door is right in front of you, and you can leave immediately."

Bill's voice was cold, and his expression was serious.

Is this woman really the perfect daughter-in-law his mother had spoken about?

Why does she seem so strange? And a bit pretentious too?

If she didn't want to be here, she shouldn't have come! And now that she's here, she's putting on an act! She better not slip up in front of him!

"Hehe, you're really funny."

Juliet deliberately lifted her face, flashing a bright smile.

She thought of it as acting for the suspect's benefit so that he wouldn't suspect she was really there for the marriage registration and not following him.

But in Bill's eyes, she had already given herself away just from a little scare!

This kind of woman couldn't fool him!

"Mr. Bill, you can go in now."

The assistant returned with their ID cards. Noticing the tense and awkward atmosphere, he wisely stepped back, waiting until Bill and Juliet had entered the VIP room before he let out a sigh of relief.

Once inside the VIP room, Juliet followed Bill's instructions, taking photos and filling out forms. Bill never once looked at any of her information; after all, she was just someone he was marrying to complete the task. He didn't need to know too much about her.

Today was also the first time they had met!

All he knew was that she would be wearing a beige coat and carrying a brown backpack at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau in the northern part of the city. After the registration, he would go to a meeting. To him, having a wife wouldn't affect his work or life in any way.

Juliet suspiciously filled out all the information, still thinking this was all arranged by her superiors. After all, Bill had said it was just a formality, meaning it was supposed to look real enough to fool the suspect. Otherwise, if the suspect knew he was being followed, it would be difficult to investigate him further. Juliet pretended to look around the information board, her pupils suddenly contracting as she spotted the man in the black trench coat staring at her from a corner.

Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Juliet realized she had to go through with this marriage for the investigation and her own safety. She could get a divorce later. She glanced at the corner again—he was still there! She tugged on Bill's sleeve and glanced at the corner, "Is the marriage certificate ready?"

A red marriage certificate was tossed in front of her by Bill.

The registration officer, with a professional smile, congratulated Juliet, "Miss Juliet, Mr. Bill, congratulations."

Although she felt that this couple didn't seem very happy, she continued with the process as usual.

Almost as soon as they received the certificate, Bill stood up to leave. But when he heard the officer say Juliet's name, he suddenly turned to look at her.

"Juliet? Who's Juliet?" Bill asked, confused.

Juliet: "???"

Officer: "???"

Frowning, Bill opened the red certificate in his hand, and there, in the bride's column, was the name Juliet.

Bill was stunned.

Was Juliet really the woman he was supposed to marry? Something didn't seem right!

Just then, his mother called. Bill answered, and his mother's voice came through, "Bill, did you finish the registration with Honey?"

Bill: "Just finished. I'll talk to you later."

Bill hung up the phone, his expression changing. After calming himself, he walked back to the registration officer, handed over the red certificate, and with a darkened face, said,

"Hello, I want a divorce."

Juliet: "..."
