Chapter 20
Marco _2
"Crackle!"Crackle!"
The burning firewood crackled as the smoke passed through the chimney. Giving off a warm atmosphere and serene feel.
Marco and his godmother sat opposite each other, Marco's godmother sat on her rocking chair and resumed her knitting while Marco had substituted otto and was now sitting on a thick mat with a blanket draped on him,
A cup of brewed brown tea brought by otto was firmly grasped in his hand, the scent assaulted Marco senses, time to time he couldn't help it and sipped from the cup.
"Godson, it's been quite a long time since you left me, what have you been up to?" His godmother smiled at Marco.
Marco opened his mouth, but no words came out. He couldn't bring himself to tell his godmother he went to join a mafia gang, could he?
He simply grabbed the tea cup and continued drinking he's tea to avoid the questioning.
"All these years, your love for brown tea hasn't changed," the old woman noticed Marco's weird behaviour and quickly changed the subject,
"Godmother, I have something to tell you," Marco steeled his resolve. He needed to clear his conscience, "Godmother, during the time I was away,....I joined a gang, a very powerful mafia gang."
"It would not be far-fetched to call this mafia gang the most powerful mafia gang throughout the world, but...." Marco's voice trailed off. He raised his head up, wanting to see his godmothers expression.
Marco thought his godmother would be provoked by the idea or even feel repulsive towards him, but her expression showed none of that as she looked at Marco with a smile.
"Godson, I knew about this since, when you ran away from the house I did alot of investigations when I found out about you joining the Moretti gang, Initially i was devastated but I learnt that you've currently left that group,"
"Isn't that right, Marco?" The old woman stared at her Godson with a smile, "it's good you did the right thing and left that group on your own accord."
"Mafia gangs are wanted for a reason, you know," The old woman continued to nag her godson, but she suddenly stared at Marco's expression that was no better than before
"Godmother, actually, i-i didn't leave that group on my own accord, nor did I want to leave it." Marco voice shrinked in front of her.
Now he just found out she wasn't angry because she thought he left the group on his own accord he was worried she might flare up.
Unlike what Marco thought, her easygoing expression changed to one much more stern but not as extreme as the one Marco had in mind.
"Godson, tell me everything that happened to you while you were away?" Her eyes resolute,
Marco saw how stern she was and conceded. Though she wasn't as angry as Marco believed she would've been, it's best not to trifle with her humour.
Just like that, Marco started recounting everything that happened to him, from how he ran away to his current predicament. Although he kept some necessary secrets, he still made a full list of the account.
2 hours passed in the blink of an eye, the night grew darker, and it was now midnight, Marco had finally finished giving accounts to his godmother and had fully satisfied her curiosity.
But her expression did not soften in the list, especially when Marco started recounting about how he was abandoned by the Moretti gang.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible. How could there be a father or husband in this world?" Marco's godmother exclaimed in a loud voice.
"How could a man with responsibilities abandon his wife and child like that," her heart ached for Jarvis and his currently ill mother.
After hearing the bombing of the car and the assassination attempt headed by three middle aged man for a 17 year old boy had to go through, her heart was in pain.
The reason for the assassination was even more thought-provoking for her, "to please the moretti gang," when she heard this sentence from Marco, she almost threw a fit.
She has a special soft spot for children, and Jarvis story hit her hard."No, no, this can't do. Where's the child now?" She asked with a demanding voice. Her motherly instincts had kicked in.
"He's currently in the manor unconscious," Marco was a bit shocked with his godmother's attitude, but he quickly answered her question.
"Eh? How long has he been unconscious, who is there to take care of him, what happened to him, has he undergone checkups, have you bathed him? " She launched a rapid-fire questions at Marco
"Ummm... he's been unconscious for a few hours, his martial teacher and a friend of mine are looking after him,
" we have no idea what happened to him even after surveying the area we found him and giving him checkups. There are no traces of attacks both internally and externally."
"As for bathing..... Godmother, aren't you taking this a bit serious," Marco sipped another mouthful of tea, but before he could swallow it. He felt his hair standing, and he could hear a whistling sound.
By the time he saw the heavy palm coming for he's face it was too late. There was no escape
A crisp "Pah!" Sound left red fingerprints on Marco's face, he's mouthful of tea had been spat out almost at impact.
"How dare you say that I am taking this too serious, do you know how important a child's personal hygiene is?" Marco's godmother scolded Marco harshly.
"Since none of you can bathe him, then quickly take me to your villa. If I have to bathe him myself I wouldn't mind at all."
In a minute time She had completely prepared herself only to see Marco still sitting on the thick mat lazily, "You sloth, always lazy, get up now and take me to the villa if not you won't be able to sleep tonight."
For some reason, Marco knew she wasn't joking but he couldn't help but retort "godmother aren't you the one that said I can stay overnight." As expected the result made him regretful.
"Bam! Bam! Bam!"
Three kicks consecutively hit Marco's back. He wailed in the tremendous pain, currently he's godmother was wearing pointed female shoes. One can just imagine how painful it could be.
Marco could feel the pain going to his brain, but she didn't stop there she launched more of her fearsome kicks towards Marco direction. "You won't take me to the villa, right? Let me see how you sleep this night."
"Such an innocent boy, not even at 18, yet you're already jeopardising his personal hygiene."
Marco quickly dashed out of there. With those fearsome kicks, only a fool will remain there.
But his godmother was relentless, not even showing the traits of an old person. She pursued him as soon as he ran.
As Marco turned back, he's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. her speed had already caught up to his. With pressure building, Marco could run with tears building in his eyes.
