Chereads / Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V: The Great Sawatari Shingo Show / Chapter 3 - Revolution's Calling

Chapter 3 - Revolution's Calling

And then there were three.

The duel in the last chapter was pretty short, so I wanted to get a nice, longer duel out there. It's probably the best chapter I've made so far (even though I only wrote three so far lol). I just really love Kurosaki as a character (woah, spoilers) and I love his way of dueling. Each time I write an Xyz Summon (even if most of them are just copy and paste from the show) for him I just hear his Japanese voice whenever he says "Rank-Up Xyz Change!" This duel will be the Yosenju deck debut, so I hope you'll enjoy it.

Also for those wondering about the timeline. This battle takes place 5 days before the Maiami Championships. There are still a few duels and story plots I need to wrap up before I start the tournament itself.

Revolution's Calling

Sawatari was walking through an isolated section near the harbor of Maiami City.

"This was the spot right?" Sawatari frowned as he looked around. "Quite the gloomy place for someone of my stature to duel in."

Yesterday, he was called by Akaba Reiji regarding the matter of his Pendulum Cards. Sawatari was expecting a meeting like that since he had heard about the Leo Corporation's desire to manufacture Pendulum cards.

They can try all they want, my cards will just be better. Sawatari thought.

However, what surprised him was that they didn't call him for the matter of Pendulum, at least in the way he thought. From what he was told, they just wanted to watch him duel while using Pendulum Summoning, against a 'special' duelist.

He didn't get many details however, only that he should stand at a specific spot and just wait while they handle the rest.

"I wonder what kind of duelist I'll face today? Hopefully someone at least half as good as the Sakaki brothers."

"You there!" A voice shouted at Sawatari from an unknown location, shocking him. "Are you from LDS?"

"Yeah, what about it!" Sawatari shouted back.

"Perfect." The voice said. "I'll get rid of you and move on towards your leader."

Shortly after, a tall man wearing a red mark over his mouth and black sunglasses jumped down from a nearby rooftop, landing right in front of the entertainment duelist.

"Don't get what you mean by 'get rid of you', but it looks like you want a duel." Sawatari then arrogantly smirks. "I'll give you what you want, I'm here because I needed to duel somebody anyway, I'll just assume that it's you."

"Sent here from somebody?" The masked man questioned. "So your leader has been expecting me?"

"Guess you can say that." Sawatari lazily answered.

The man then activated his duel disk.

"I'll make sure you bastards repent for what you did." The Masked Duelist declared. "I'll tear your organization apart before I move on to destroying Academia!"

"Academia?" Sawatari asked, but it didn't seem like he would get much of an answer from the man. "Well, whatever. Let's get this party started then.

Sawatari changes his deck before he activates his duel disk.

"I'll show you the miraculous power of my Pendulum monster, and have Akaba Reiji marvel at my greatness." Sawatari announced.

Elsewhere, Akaba Reiji and his group were stationed nearby, but out of sight of the two, watching the events that were about to transpire.

"Are you certain this is a good idea, boss?" Nakajima asked. "This duelist is incredibly dangerous and responsible for the death of many of our personnel. You're sending him straight to his death."

"Perhaps." Akaba Reiji said, not even looking at the man. "That's why we're here, in case things end up going south."

"But…"

"Don't worry about it, Sawatari Shingo is a strong and competent duelist, he won't go down without putting up at least a struggle."

"You sound like you don't have any faith in him winning this duel." Nakajima frowned as he turned to the two duelists.

"I suspect that the outcome of this duel will most likely end in favor of our vigilante here, but that's within my calculations."

Everything is always within your calculations. Nakajima sweatdropped but decided to have faith in his boss.

[Duel!]

Sawatari — LP: 4000

Masked Duelist — LP: 4000

"I'll start!" Sawatari announced. "I'll begin this show by activating the Field Spell 'Divine Wind of Mist Valley'. While this card is in effect, whenever a card I control returns to the hand, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower 'Wind' monster from my deck to my field!"

The sky above the two changes into a mix of warm and cool colors, looking almost like a moving canvas in the sky.

"Next, I'll set the Pendulum Scale with Scale 3 Yosenju Shinchu L and Scale 5 Yosenju Shinchu R! Carve my path to victory, my Pendulum!"

Two rock statues, the left one being green while the right one was yellow, rose up through the golden Pendulum Zones. Swinging above them was a golden pendulum that swung in a circular motion.

"Pendulum?" The Masked Figure frowned. "Is this a new weapon for Academia?"

"Still don't know what this Academia is, but don't think about it too much, I won't be Pendulum Summoning this turn, so be grateful." Sawatari cockily shrugs. "I Normal Summon Yosenju Kama 1 (Wind/Beast-Warrior/Effect/ATK: 1600/DEF: 500/LV: 4) from my hand!"

Appearing on the field was an animal warrior with smooth, silver hair, tied into a bun.

"Yosenju Kama 1's effect activates! If this card is Normal Summoned onto my field successfully, I can Normal Summon a 'Yosenju' monster from my hand! Wreak Havoc, Yosenju Magat (Wind/Beast/Effect/ATK: 2000/DEF: 300/LV: 6)!"

Up next to appear on the field was a humanoid weasel with black fur, brandishing a jagged curved blade.

"Yosenju Magat's effect activates! If this card is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon a 'Yosenju' monster from my deck to the field!"

A card sticks out of his deck as Sawatari dramatically places it on his duel disk.

"I choose to summon my Yosenju Izna (Wind/Beast-Warrior/Effect/ATK: 800/DEF: 1200/LV: 4) in defense mode!"

An animal warrior much like Yosenju Kama 1, except its hair was long and brown, appeared on the field.

"Once per turn, if I control another 'Yosenju' monster while Yosenju Izna is on the field, I can draw 1 card."

Sawatari draws a card, grinning cheekily after he sees what he has drawn.

"I activate the Continuous Spell 'Yosenju Training Ground'! While this card is active, every time I Normal or Special Summon a 'Yosenju' Monster, one 'Yosen Counter' is added to this card, which I can exchange for a specific effect." Sawatari described as a shrine, with many unlit candles, appeared behind him.

"Next, I'll move to my End Phase. During the End Phase, Yosenju Kama 1's effect activates. If this card was Normal Summoned this turn, I can return it to my hand and Special Summon a Level 4 or lower 'Wind' monster from my deck thanks to my Field Spell's effect."

Another card sticks out of his deck.

"I choose Yosenju Kadam (Wind/Beast-Warrior/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 0/LV: 1) in defense mode!"

A small circular creature wrapped in bandages, with only its red eye being visible, appears. At the same time, a candle lit up on the shrine behind him (Yosen Counter: 0 1).

"And with that, I end my turn. Take it away mysterious man!" Sawatari passed the baton.

"..." The Masked Duelist was silent for a moment. "Draw!"

Sawatari felt an intense gust of wind produced from the draw, causing him to wince a little as the taller man began his turn.

"I summon Raidraptor – Vanishing Lanius (Dark/Winged-Beast/Effect/ATK: 1300/DEF: 1600/LV: 4) to my field!" Appearing on the field was a green, mechanical bird. "Then I'll activate my monster's effect, allowing me to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower 'Raidraptor' monster from my hand! Bare your fangs, Raidraptor – Tribute Lanius (Dark/Winged-Beast/Effect/ATK: 1800/DEF: 400/LV: 4)!"

Up next to appear was a blue mechanical bird, with floating features that glowed neon blue surrounding it.

"Raidraptor…?" Sawatari muttered. "I've never heard of that archetype before."

"Tribute Lanius' effect activates! With it, I'll send one 'Raidraptor' monster from my deck to my graveyard!"

A card sticks out of the Masked Duelist's deck, which he sends to his graveyard before activating the card's effect.

"As you do that, I activate Yosenju Izna's effect once again, allowing me to draw another card!"

Sawatari draws another card. The Masked Duelist pays no mind as he continues his turn.

"Next I'll activate Raidraptor – Mimicry Lanius' effect from the graveyard! If this card is sent to the graveyard this turn, I can target one 'Raidraptor' card from my deck, and add it to my hand!"

Another card sticks out of his deck, which the Masked Duelist adds to his hand.

"Raidraptor – Fuzzy Lanius' effect activates. If I control a 'Raidraptor' monster on my field, I can Special Summon this card from my hand, but in exchange, I can only Special Summon 'Raidraptor' monsters for the rest of this turn. Prepare for battle, Fuzzy Lanius (Dark/Winged-Beast/Effect/ATK: 500/DEF: 1500/LV: 4)!"

A darker-colored mechanical bird, with blue and purple wings, appeared.

"Prepare to face my wrath!" The Masked Duelist declared as his three monsters turned into purple energy. "With my three monsters, I construct the overlay network!"

The three monsters are sucked into a black wormhole that causes the ground around the two duelists to shake uncontrollably.

"What…the hell is happening?!" Sawatari asked aloud as he ended up falling on his butt. "Why is the ground shaking, this isn't an action duel?"

"Here it comes." Akaba Reiji said. "A true Xyz Summon."

"A true Xyz Summon? What do you mean?" Nakajima inquired.

"Just watch." Reiji pointed towards the duel.

The Masked Duelist removed his sunglasses, revealing a set of yellow, bird-like eyes that seemed like they could stare into the deepest depths of one's soul as he began chanting.

"Obscured falcon, raise your sharpened talons in front of adversity; spread your wings of rebellion! Xyz Summon! Appear! Rank 4! Raidraptor - Rise Falcon (Dark/Winged-Beast/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 100/DEF: 2000/R: 4/OU: 3)!"

Bursting out of the vortex was a mechanical falcon with a body coated in blue and silver. Surrounding it were 3 purple orbs.

"Krahhh!" The creature let out a screech that caused everyone nearby aside from the Masked Duelist to cover their ears. He wasn't sure why, but Sawatari could tell that the monster had a deep, unmatched level of hatred bubbling from within it.

"What the hell is that?!" Sawatari asked. "That monster's hate is too much, like it's been through a war."

"This monster can attack all Special Summon monsters on the field." The Masked Duelist declared. "Rise Falcon's effect activates! By destroying one overlay unit, my monster gains an attack equal to all Special Summon monsters on this field (Rise Falcon — ATK: 100 → 900)."

Sawatari frowned. "It only gained 900 attacks, what good will that do?"

"Battle! Raidraptor – Rise Falcon, attack his Yosenju Izna! Brave Claw Revolution!"

"Huh? But you'll just take damage from that." Sawatari said in shock.

Rise Falcon erupts into flame, soaring in and crashing into Sawatari's Monster. The monster was able to defend itself from the assault, pushing the bird away. However, for some reason, the force of the clash was real, sending both duelists sliding back a few meters.

Masked Duelist — LP: 4000 → 3700

"When I take damage from battles involving a 'Raidraptor Xyz' Monster, I can activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Rank-Up-Magic Retribution Force' from my hand, Special Summoning a 'Raidraptor Xyz' Monster from my Extra Deck one rank higher! I use my Rise Falcon in order to construct the overlay network once again!"

"Rank-Up-Magic? What the hell is that?" Sawatari exclaimed.

Rise Falcon turns into energy as it is sucked into a wormhole that formed once again, the Xyz Duelist beginning to chant once again.

"Ferocious falcon. Break through this fierce battle and spread your wings! Destroy our gathering foes! Rank Up Xyz Change! Appear! Rank 5! Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon (Dark/Winged-Beast/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 1000/DEF: 2000/R: 5/OU: 3)!"

Bursting out of the vortex this time was a red and black mechanical falcon.

"Blaze Falcon's effect activates! By destroying one overlay unit, this card can destroy all Special Summoned monsters on your field, and when it does; inflict 500 points of damage for each destroyed monster!"

"I activate Yosenju Kadam's effect! By tributing this card, I can add three 'Yosen Counters' to my Continuous Spell!"

(Yosen Counter: 1 → 4 )

"But my effect will still destroy your Yosenju Izna! Burn, my falcon!"

As three more flames lit up on the shrine behind Sawatari, Blaze Falcon shot a blast of fire at Yosenju Izna, destroying the monster and sending the boy tumbling back.

Sawatari — LP: 4000 → 3500

What the hell? Sawatari thought as he struggled to stand up. Why the hell am I feeling the attacks from this guy. We're not in an action duel or anything?

"Your suffering is not over yet, Academia!" The Masked Duelist declared. "Blaze Falcon's other effect is in effect, this monster is able to attack my opponent directly!"

"What?!" Sawatari exclaimed.

"Battle! Raidraptor – Blaze Falcon, attack his life points directly! Blazing Retribution!"

A cannon appears out of Blaze Falcon's stomach, charging up a blast of fire that is then shot directly at Sawatari, causing the boy to get sent flying into a nearby wall, and making him cough up blood from the impact.

Sawatari — LP: 3500 → 2500

"I…activate Yosenju Training Ground, by removing…three lit candles, I can add a 'Yosenju' monster…from my deck to…my hand." Sawatari struggled to finish his sentence as he drew a card.

(Yosen Counter: 4 → 1)

"When I inflict battle damage to an opponent with a 'Raidraptor Xyz' Monster, I can activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Rank-Up-Magic Annihilation Force'! With this card, I can use Blaze Falcon as material to summon a 'Raidraptor Xyz' Monster one rank higher from my Extra Deck! I construct the overlay network once again!"

Blaze Falcon is turned into energy once again as a black vortex appears in front of the masked duelist.

"Prideful falcon. Spread your wings, dyed in the blood of heroes, and charge through the path of revolution! Rank Up Xyz Change! Appear! Rank 6! Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon (Dark/Winged-Beast/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 2000/DEF: 3000/R: 6/OU: 3)!"

Appearing from the vortex was a silver-colored mechanical falcon with multiple joints on its wings connected by golden bolts.

"Revolution Falcon's effect activates! By destroying one of this monster's overlay units, I can target one monster on the field, destroy it, and inflict damage to you equal to half that monster's attack points. Bring about a new revolution, my monster!"

Revolution Falcon soars in the air, detaching a part of its wing that is sent straight to Yosenju Magat, creating a massive explosion that Sawatari was unfortunate enough to be caught in.

Sawatari — LP: 2500 → 1500

"Now to finish this." The Masked Duelist pointed forward as he commanded his falcon. "Battle! Raidraptor – Revolution Falcon, attack him directly and finish his miserable existence!"

Revolution Falcon opens a few compartments on its body, bombs falling out towards the downed duelist.

"Boss, you have to stop him!" Nakajima shouts. "If that attack lands, he'll end up dead even before he gets turned into a card!"

"Patience, Nakajima. Everything is within my calculations." Reiji assured. "It'll be fine."

"How would this be fine?!"

"Just watch."

"I…activate Yosenju Oyam's effect…from my hand!" Sawatari strings the words out of his mouth as a giant monster of darkness appears, protecting the duelist from the incoming bombs. "By discarding one 'Yosenju' monster other than this card from my hand, I can Special Summon Yosenju Oyam (Wind/Beast/Effect/ATK: -1/DEF: -1/LV: 6) to my field in defense mode."

A candle appears on the shine behind Sawatari as Oyam begins slapping away the bombs with its hands, protecting the two of them.

(Yosen Counter: 1 → 2)

"Revolution's attack continues!" The Masked Duelist declares, unconcerned by the arrival of a new monster.

"Yosenju Oyam's other effect activates. I can make its attack and defense equal to a monster's attack until the end of the turn. I choose your Raidraptor – Revolution Falcon!"

"Naive!" The Masked Duelist counters. "When Revolution Falcon attacks a Special Summoned monster, that monster's attack and defense become 0!"

Revolution drops another load of bombs on the monster, this time succeeding in destroying it.

"When Yosenju Oyam is destroyed, I can add one 'Yosenju' monster from my deck to my hand!" Sawatari declared as he drew another card.

"Hmph. Looks like you've managed to survive this turn, Academia scum." The Masked Duelist scoffed. "I place one card facedown and end my turn. Draw your last pathetic card."

Sawatari slowly gets back up, blood flowing from his mouth. He felt like his body would give up on him at any moment, but he kept fighting that urge, wanting to put everything he had into this duel.

What would Fumiko think if I just gave up because of my weakness? I wouldn't be able to face her in heaven if I backed away now! Sawatari motivated himself in his mind. And this guy…he isn't dueling for the fun of the game. He's dueling…with hatred. I can't accept myself losing to someone who uses dueling as a tool like that!

"My…turn." Sawatari declared, his golden pendant began glowing as a result of his new sense of determination. "Draw!"

As he saw the card in his hand, he stared at it confused.

New Dawn Paladin? When did I put him in this deck? He's not even a part of this archetype? Sawatari frowned. Plus, I won't even summon him thanks to Yosenju Shinchu R preventing me from Special Summoning non-Yosenju monsters. It's a dead draw…

"Just a minor setback…" Sawatari decided to continue. "I activate Yosenju Shinchu R's Pendulum Effect! Once per turn, if I have a Yosenju Monster in my other Pendulum Scale, I can change this monster's scale to 11 (Yosenju Shinchu R – SC: 5 → 11)!"

Sawatari coughs up some more blood from forcibly speaking but he continues.

"I don't know why you duel with such seething hatred…but I refuse to be defeated by someone who duels not for the fun of the game!" Sawatari started. "Using my current scale, I can summon monsters Levels 4 through 10 all at the same time! Shine my golden arc, grant me the conviction I need to pave my own path! Pendulum Summon! Dazzle the stage, Mayosenju Daibak (Wind/Beast/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 3000/DEF: 300/LV: 10/SC: 7)!"

Appearing on the field was a giant, ghastly green monster with canine features, a giant horn formed on the top of its head. Its roar was dominant and caused some birds nearby to fly away. At the same time, a candle on the shrine lit up.

(Yosen Counter: 2 → 3)

"When my intimidating monster is Special Summoned, I can target up to two cards on my opponent's field, and return them to the hand! I choose your Revolution Falcon and your face-down trap card! Vengeful Typhoon!"

"I activate Raidraptor – Revolution Falcon's effect once again!" The Masked Duelist announced. "By destroying another overlay unit, I can destroy your monster and inflict damage to you equal to half of its attack points. Since you only have 1500 life points, this seals the deal! Finish it, Revolution Falcon!"

Revolution Falcon flew forward, shooting a large number of bombs towards Sawatari's giant monster.

"Not so fast!" Sawatari cut in. "I activate Yosenju Haibara's effect from my hand! I can Special Summon it to the field and half the damage I receive from any source of damage until the End Phase. Welcome to the stage, Haibara (Wind/Beast/Effect/ATK: 500/DEF: 1750/LV: 4) in defense mode!"

A large rodent-like animal appeared on the field and rolled into a ball. It rolled in front of Sawatari, protecting him from a good portion of the explosions caused by Revolution Falcon's attack. At the same time, another candle lit up on the shrine.

(Yosen Counter: 3 → 4)

Sawatari — LP: 1500 → 750

"Tch." The Masked Duelist clicked his tongue.

"I activate Yosen Training Ground's effect, allowing me to add a 'Yosenju' card from my deck to the hand!" Sawatari draws a card. "I activated the Equip Spell Card 'Yosenju Sacrifice'! By paying half my life points, I can Special Summon a 'Yosenju' monster from my Graveyard, Banish Zone, or Face-Up in my Extra Deck to my field! However, the card summoned will have its effects negated and its attack and defense will be reduced to zero. Return once again, Mayosenju Daibak (ATK: 3000 → 0/DEF: 300 → 0) in defense mode!"

Sawatari — LP: 750 → 350

A circle of green flames formed on the ground, and arising from the flames was Mayosenju Daibak. Another candle lights up on the shrine.

(Yosen Counter: 4 → 2)

"And with that, I end my turn," Sawatari said, much to the surprise of the Masked Duelist and the spectators. "And since Daibak's effects are negated, it won't be returning to my hand this turn."

"I thought he was going to make some innovative plays, but it seems like he's playing rather defensively." Nakajima frowned. "And he's not holding up well on the physical side either, he's acting like he's fine, but anyone could tell from the blood flowing from his mouth that he is not fine."

What he said was true, the teen was losing quite a bit of blood from his mouth rapidly, each time he spoke without a care taking a toll on the boy's body. However, the entertainer still seemed to be standing, somehow.

"We'll see. If he manages to survive this next turn, I'll add him to our plans for the Lancers."

"But boss, I think he's proven himself enough already. There's no need to keep this going."

"Just be patient." Reiji reassured him. "He hasn't shown us the true limit of his dueling yet."

"Draw!" He drew a card. "I'll admit that you fought hard, Academia scum." The Masked Duelist commended. "But this is as far as you'll go! I activate my face-down Quick-Play Spell 'Rise Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor's Force'! This card can only be activated during either my Main Phase or my opponent's Battle Phase. I can target 2 'Raidraptor' Xyz monsters, one being on my field, and Special Summon a 'Raidraptor' monster from my Extra Deck with a Rank equivalent to the combined Rank of the monsters! I'll use my Revolution Falcon and my Rise Falcon from my graveyard to conduct an Xyz Summon!"

Rise Falcon appears from a portal, turning into energy alongside Revolution Falcon as they are sucked into a wormhole.

"Supreme falcon. Carry on the wishes of your fallen allies, and fly off to the sky of victory! Rank Up Xyz Change! Appear, Rank 10! Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon (Dark/Winged-Beast/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 3500/DEF: 2000/R: 10/OU: 3)!"

A brilliant-looking mechanical falcon appeared on the field. Its body and wings were coated in a seamless, shiny yellow and black coating, granting it a clean, ethereal look to it.

"Next, I'll summon another copy of Raidraptor – Vanishing Lanius (ATK: 1300/DEF: 1600/LV: 4). With Vanishing Lanius' effect, I can summon a third copy of Vanishing Lanius (ATK: 1300/DEF: 1600/LV: 4)!"

Two green mechanical birds appear side-by-side.

"Raidraptor – Ultimate Falcon's effect activates! By destroying one overlay unit, I can reduce your monster's attack by 1000, and for the rest of this turn, you cannot activate card effects!"

"I won't let you! Yosenju Sacrifice's effect activates!" Sawatari counters. "This effect can only be activated on my opponent's turn. By tributing this card and paying half my life points, I remain unaffected by card effects until the end of the End Phase this turn!"

Sawatari — LP: 350 → 175

"And since 'Yosenju Sacrifice' is no longer equipped to my monster, Mayosenju Daibak's attack and defense returns to normal (Daibak – ATK: 0 3000, DEF: 0 300)!"

"It won't matter in the end!" The Masked Duelist points his palm forward. "Battle! Raidraptor – Ultimate Falcon, attacks Yosenju Haibara. Ethereal Rebellion!"

Ultimate Falcon slowly rises into the sky, a compartment in the center of its body opening up. Soon a golden laser beam began charging, being shot towards Sawatari's monster.

—BOOOOM!

A cloud of dust rose from the impact. As it slowly disappeared, it revealed the figure of Yosenju Haibara, being perfectly fine; a sight that caused the Masked Duelist to frown.

"I…activated Yosenju Shinchu L's…Pendulum Effect." Sawatari explained. "If a 'Yosenju' monster I control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, I can destroy this card instead."

"Tch. Doesn't matter. Vanishing Lanius, attack his Mayosenju Daibak!"

The green mechanical bird soars forward, slashing away the flame beast with its claws.

"I place one more trap card face down and I end my turn." The Masked Duelist stated.

"I draw–" Sawatari started before he violently began coughing up blood.

No…not now. Persevere! The entertainment duelist tried to motivate himself, an act that caused not only his pendant to glow in a yellow hue, but also his eyes.

"I…draw!" Sawatari drew a card, his eyes widening at the card he drew. The silhouette of a new monster appears in his mind.

This is…uhh…a Fusion Spell? Don't know why it's here, but it came at a good time! Sawatari thought.

"I…activate the Spell Card…'Yosenju Fusion'...from my hand!"

Fusion? He's never been shown to be able to use that form of summoning before. Reiji frowned from the sidelines. That'll make communicating an alliance become rather troublesome.

"Fusion?!" The Masked Duelist furrowed his eyebrows. "Academia…!"

"This card…allows me to Fusion Summon…a 'Yosenju' monster from my…Extra Deck, using cards from…my Hand, Field, or Extra Deck…as materials! I choose to fuse my Yosenju Haibara on my field together with my New Dawn Paladin in my hand!"

The golden warrior and the beast-like monster rise into the air, fusing into a new monster as Sawatari begins chanting.

"The Greedy Serpentine of Malevolence rises back to the surface. Consume the well-being of all those around you in the name of the king! Fusion Summon! Ascend, The Forgotten King's Greed, Mayosenju Emerald Kaiju (Wind/Beast/Fusion/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 100/DEF: 2500/LV: 8/SC: 9)!"

A crack in the ground formed, erupting from it was a giant serpent with shiny, emerald scales. Its body was covered in spines that grew around the body of the snake.

(Yosen Counter: 2 → 3)

The aura the monster was emitting was nothing but malice…malice that ended up being drawn in straight to Sawatari via his pendant.

"When this monster is Fusion Summoned onto my field, it gains attack points equal to the total attack of all monsters in my and my opponent's field, graveyard, or face-up in their Extra Deck! This includes Overlay Units as well since they are technically monsters. In exchange, only this monster can attack during my battle phase!" 'Sawatari?' declared.

"All monsters?" The Masked Duelist narrowed his eyes on the monster. "What an absurd effect. Damn you, Academia scum!"

"In total, my monster gains 11600 attack points (Mayosenju Emerald Kaiju – ATK: 100 → 11700)!" 'Sawatari?' stated as he started scratching himself. "Yes! This is it! The power I seek!"

"Over 11000 attack points?!" Nakajima's jaw almost dropped. "That's absurd!"

The frown on Reiji's face grew. Sawatari was no longer acting like himself, as if he was being possessed by some demon.

"Now to finish this! Battle! Mayosenju Emerald Kaiju! Attack and wipe out that insignificant worm's life points!" 'Sawatari?' ordered his monster. The monster itself slithers towards the Masked Duelist.

"I activate the Trap Card 'No Soldier Left Behind'!" The Masked Duelist declared. "When my opponent declares an attack while I have an 'Xyz' monster on the field, I can end the Battle Phase, and 'Special Summon' an 'Xyz' monster from my graveyard. I choose to revive Raidraptor – Revolution Falcon (ATK: 2000/DEF: 3000/R: 6)!"

Revolution Falcon arises from a portal.

"You may have survived now, worm. But that only delays the inevitable." 'Sawatari?' scoffed. "I activate Yosen Training Ground's effect to–"

—Badump!

'Sawatari?' suddenly clutched his chest in pain, collapsing onto the ground.

[Other party/s are no longer able to duel. Duel Terminated.] The Masked Duelist duel disk states as the monsters of both sides disappear suddenly.

"Good riddance." The Masked Duelist commented as he walked up to the unconscious body of Sawatari.

"Stop this at once!" Nakajima shouted as he and a few other elite students appeared surrounding the area.

"Took you long enough…" The Masked Duelist scanned the newcomers. "Bring me to your leader. I have no time to deal with you small fry."

"If you want me, I'm right here."

The Masked Duelist's eyes widened as he saw a gray-haired man walk up from the distance (how'd he get there?), slowly striding towards him — his blood-red scarf blowing in the wind.

"So you're the leader." The Masked Duelist's eyes narrowed. "What do you know about Academia!"

"I know a lot of things." Reiji answered with a smirk. "But why should I tell you anything? You've killed a good number of my men."

Reiji pulled out a card, on it depicting Professor Marco, the professor of LDS's Fusion course.

"I don't take too kindly to people messing with my things, but since I'm feeling generous today, how about I give you an offer?" Reiji proposed.

"I got nothing to discuss with Academia scum, if you don't plan on giving me the information, I'll beat it out of you!" The Masked Duelist declared as he activated his duel disk.

"I'll play along with your little game here." Reiji activated his duel disk as well before turning to Nakajima. "Take Sawatari and get him to the infirmary, he's in dire need of medical attention. I'll take care of things here."

"Yes, boss." Nakajima nodded, picking up Sawatari and leaving with the rest of the elite students.

"You're facing me alone, I would've thought that you would just duel me all at once and be rid of me." The Masked Duelist scoffed.

"I don't need the help. My skills are enough for the likes of you, Kurosaki Shun." Reiji confidently replied.

"You won't be smiling when I destroy you, scum!" Shun declared as the duel began.

Sawatari Corner:

LarsonWrites: Sawatari is knocked out currently so no Sawatari Corner, sorry (this is totally not just me being lazy).

Love the cliffhangers.

Before I even talk about anything, I have to address the upload schedule. I will not be uploading every week, but I will upload chapters either on Thursday or Friday. If you don't see a chapter on Thursday or Friday, it's probably being uploaded the following week.

As for the chapter itself, this was the debut of Sawatari's Yosenju deck, and while he didn't manage to win, I still think it was a pretty good showing (and before anybody says anything, he would've lost regardless of his condition, I just ended the duel there since that's basically all I wanted to show there for now). Overall, I think I did a pretty good job.

As for Kurosaki, I don't really have much to say. I just love him.

The next chapter will feature two duels and some juicy story stuff and it won't really focus on Sawatari, so it'll probably take me a while to upload it. And don't worry, I won't be cutting them off short like this one.

Don't forget to drop a follow and write me some more criticisms and suggestions (as long as the criticism is actually informational and not just straight hating…not saying that you can't hate this story or anything. If you happen to hate this fanfic, just don't read it. Don't leave a random hate comment for no reason.)
