Inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V: The Fifth Factor
Most of the main cast is aged up by 2 years, for convenience sake (don't want to write about people younger than me). Also I made some changes to Sawatari's background and personality for convenience sake, like the fact that he wanted to be an entertainer even before meeting Yuya.
He'll be using multiple decks. The deck you'll see in this first chapter being basically all custom cards. I'll try my best to make use of the other decks he used in the series and probably only use this custom deck in some "important" duels.
Also, I might mess up some names, like using the Dub names for some characters, and the Japanese names for others.
There will also be a few OC's mixed in as well, in places where I feel like they may add to the story. As of right now, don't expect too many.
Also before anybody says anything, for this fanfic I'm removing the dumb effect on both Timegazer and Stargazer Magician that changes their Pendulum Scale to 4 is there are no "Odd-Eyes" or "Magician" monster in the other Pendulum Zone since its just straight annoying. I won't be making many changes in cards otherwise, aside from using their anime effects at times.
I don't own any rights to Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V, only the OC's.
Warning: Chapter may have minor spelling and grammatical mistakes, it's a big chapter so I definitely missed a few things.

A Show-Stopping Debut
A young man with short brown and yellow hair styled in layers sat alone on a glass hillside that stood next to a river. Around his neck was a yellow crystal pendant that emitted a faint glowing light.
This was Sawatari Shingo, a 16-year-old aspiring duelist and the only son of Sawatari Furio, a high-ranking official in Maiami City.
"Quite the beautiful sunrise today, right Fumiko?" He solemnly spoke aloud as he pointed his pendant towards the sun. "I hope you're watching me from up there. Today I, 'The Great Sawatari Shingo', will duel like never before on the big stage, bringing a smile to all of my fans."
After that little declaration, he examines his deck of monsters. His deck was full of rare "Dragon", "Warrior", and "Magician" monster cards, some of the strongest cards he managed to get his hands on. His older sister, Fumiko had a thing for these kinds of cards, which influenced him into creating such a deck.
All preparations are complete. Time to show the world what 'The Great Sawatari Shingo' can do! I'll shock the crowd with my dazzling dueling skills and get them all to chant my name!
———————————————————————————
Around an hour later, Sawatari arrived in front of the massive duel stadium via limousine, confidently walking inside along with his bodyguards. He promptly got through the security check and made it way to the waiting room he would be staying in until his match began.
"Mr. Sawatari." An attendant addressed the teen. "Your duel is about to begin, please make your way to the arena."
"Finally, time for the main act to finally take the stage." Sawatari announced before winking at the attendant. "This duel will be one that'll go down in the record books, miss. Be sure to watch the whole thing while you still can."
"Will do." The woman nodded, prompting Sawatari to smile as he made his way out to the arena.
"Here comes our first contestant. The debut of a talented duelist taught at LDS and the son of a high-ranking official Sawatari Furio, Sawatari Shingo!" Nico Smiley announced, causing the crowd to cheer.
"Thank you, thank you!" Sawatari charismatically waved at the crowd. "I, The Great Sawatari Shingo will be sure to provide you all with the peak of duel entertainment!"
Though, I wish that he didn't introduce me as the son of my father. Sawatari thought deep down, though he didn't show it.
"Our other contestant is the duelist that shocked the world with the creation of a whole new summoning technique in his duel to defeat Strong Ishijima, the former champion of the pro! The pioneer of Pendulum! Sakaki…Yuya!!!"
The crowd erupted into cheers even louder than those made for Sawatari, as a teen with styled red and green hair made his way onto the field. Yuya happily waved at the crowd in a similar manner to Sawatari until he eventually came into a stop, making eye contact with his opponent.
"So you're Sakaki Yuya, the creator of Pendulum." Sawatari looked the teen up and down and scoffed. "You don't look like much to me."
"Straight to the insults, huh?" Yuya smiled as he activated his duel disk. "If you have a problem with me, let's settle it the way we know how."
"I guess that's something we both can agree on." Sawatari smiled back as he also activated his duel disk. "I'll prove to you that those Pendulum monsters of yours are nothing special."
"It looks like our two contestants are ready." Nico Smiley announced. "In that case, Action Field, on! Field Spell, Ancient Ruins!"
The Real Solid Vision activated, changing the arena around the two into one depicting barren wasteland, with destroyed buildings scattered all over.
Not my ideal arena, but not a bad choice. Sawatari thought.
"Let's get this started!" Yuya began. "Duelist lock in battle!"
"Kicking the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters" Sawatari continued.
"They storm through this field!"
"Behold! This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling!"
"Action—!"
[Duel!]
The two shout in unison.
Sawatari — LP: 4000
Yuya — LP: 4000
"I'll take the first turn." Yuya declared as he then outstretched both his hands. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, we'll show you a spectacular performance that'll leave you starving for more! Using my Scale 1 Stargazer Magician and Scale 8 Timegazer Magician, I set the Pendulum! Scale!"
As he placed his two cards on each end of the duel disk, the word "Pendulum" appeared in between, while columns of transparent blue energy appeared behind the teen, with both his monsters slowly rising within them. In the sky above them, a large Pendulum could be seen swinging back and forth.
"Here it comes! Sakaki Yuya's Pendulum Summon!" Nico Smiley stood at the edge of his seat as he watched the spectacle. The crowd shared the same sentiment, excitedly cheering along as Yuya continued.
"Now I can simultaneously summon monsters with Levels 2 through 7." Yuya declared. "Swing, Pendulum of my Soul! Draw an arc of light across the ether! Pendulum Summon! Appear now, my monsters!"
A large portal formed under the enormous Pendulum, which let out two beams of light that crashed into the ground.
"Welcome to the field, Performapal Drummerilla (Earth/Beast/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 1600/DEF: 900/LV: 5/SC: 2! And our main star, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (Dark/Dragon/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 4)!"
Two monsters appear on Yuya's field. The first monster was a gorilla with two drums on its chest, drumsticks for arms, and a black tophat on top of its head. The second monster was a red colored bipedal dragon with dual colored eyes, with two horn-like protrusions emerging from its back.
"In an instant, Sakaki Yuya has already summoned two powerful monsters onto his field!" Nico Smiley exclaimed.
Yuya climbed on top of his Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon as the two ran off to search for an action card, Sawatari choosing to do the same.
"I then set one card face down and end my turn." A card appeared on his field. "You're up, Sawatari."
"Quite the opening board you have there, Sakaki. That Pendulum summoning of yours is quite effective." Sawatari complimented. "But, that's if it was used against someone who isn't me! Draw! I'll start this off by summoning Summoner Dragon (Light/Dragon/Effect/ATK: 100/DEF: 1200/LV: 3) onto my field!"
A cute white dragon with a cloud-like body appeared on the field.
"Then I'll activate my lovable dragon's effect, allowing me to Special Summon a "Dragon" monster from my hand to my field. Appear now, my Axelwing Dragon (Earth/Dragon/Effect/ATK: 1000/DEF: 500/LV: 3)!!"
This time, a small, blue colored dragon with a wheel sticking out of its chest appeared.
"Now tell me, Sakaki Yuya. I have two Level 3 Monsters on my field right now. You know what happens next?"
Yuya thought about it for a second before widening his eyes, prompting Sawatari to continue.
"That's right, Sakaki!" Sawatari confidently said. "I overlay my Level 3 Summoner Dragon together with my Level 3 Axelwing in order to Xyz Summon!"
His two dragons turn into pure energy as they are dragged into a vortex that formed on the teen's field. The teen smiled as he began chanting.
"Pure hearted dragon who thrives off mischief, descend from the clouds and spread joy to all who see you! Xyz Summon! Entertain the crowd, Rank 3, Trick-O Pop Dragon (Light/Dragon/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 1000/DEF: 1700/R: 3/OU: 2) in defense mode!"
A cute red dragon with a body made of sweets appeared on the field.
"I activate my new dragon's effect! By detaching one overlay unit, I can add a "Dragon" monster from my deck to my hand!" He drew a card. "And now I'll activate Axelwing Dragon's effect! When this card is sent to the graveyard, I can banish one card from my opponent's field! I choose your Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
"No way!" Yuya shouts as he snags an Action Card that was wedged in a wall. "I activate the Action Spell, Illumination! When an effect that would destroy a monster is activated, I can negate that effect!"
"I activate the Action Spell, No Action in order to negate your action spell!" Sawatari said. "Now my effect continues unimpeded!"
Axelwing Dragon appears on the field once again, flying over and headbutting Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, causing both of them to disappear from the field.
—Thud.
…and making Yuya fall flat on his face.
"Oh how the mighty have fallen." Sawatari mocked as he walked up to the down Yuya. "Don't worry, your precious dragon will come back during the end phase."
"Thanks for the consideration…" Yuya mumbled and he stood back up.
"Don't look too down yet, Sakaki. The show has just begun!" Sawatari dramatically outstretched his arms as he continued his turn. "I activate the Ritual Spell Draconic Manifestation! By offering the appropriate tributes, I can Ritual Summon a "Ritual Dragon" monster from my hand! I offer Draconic Magician and Noble Warrior as tributes to summon a Level 8 Ritual Monster!"
"Ritual?!" Yuya exclaimed in shock, a sentiment shared by a majority of the crowd at the use of such an outdated summoning method.
An altar appears behind Sawatari. His two monsters served as tributes burst into blue flames as the altar began to glow.
"Apex predator originating from the darkest depth of the sea. Rise up to the surface and show off your mighty power! Ritual Summon! Appear, Level 8! Seaswarm King Leviathan (Water/Dragon/Ritual/Effect/ATK: 2800/DEF: 0/LV: 8)!"
A giant, intimidating amphibian dragon with black scales appeared. Sapphire blue flames that flowed like water appeared on the back of the dragon, stretching from the head all the way to the tip of the tail. The eyes of the monster that glowed in a similar color to its flames.
"What an amazing showing of skill! Using an Xyz Summon to gather the necessary cards needed in order to Ritual Summon such a strong monster!" Nico Smiley commented. "Let's see what this fantastic duelist has in store for us!"
"Thanks for the compliment, be sure to keep them coming." Sawatari smiled. "I activate Seaswarm King Leviathan's monster effect! Once per turn, I can pay half of my life points in order to double the attack of my monster!"
Sawatari — LP: 4000 → 2000
(Seaswarm King Leviathan ATK: 2800 → 5600)
"Drummerilla only has 1600 attack points, if he lands that attack, I'm done for…" Yuya muttered as he started running. "I'll need to find an Action Card!"
"Trying to find an Action Card, aren't you?" Sawatari smirked as he chased after him. "I won't let you! Battle! Seaswarm King Leviathan, attack Drummerilla and finish this duel! Might of the King!"
Seaswarm King Leviathan shoots a blast of blue flames from its mouth, incinerating everything in its path.
"I activate the Action Spell, Evasion! With it, I can negate your monster's attack!" Yuya declared.
"Too bad for you. I activate the Dharma Magician's effect!" Sawatari counters. "By discarding this card from my hand, I can negate the activation of a spell or trap card! It's over for you!"
"Got you!" Yuya smiled. "I activate my trap card, Pendulum Blessing! By destroying one of my monsters in my Pendulum Zone, I can negate an attack, and gain life points equal to the damage I would've taken from the attack!"
Stargazer Magician disappears from the Pendulum Zone, resulting in a shield that protects Yuya from the flames.
Yuya — LP: 4000 → 8000
"Tch. Did he somehow predict that I would have something to counter his trap card?" Sawatari clicked his tongue. "I end my turn! And with the end of the turn, your Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon returns to your field!"
Yuya's red dragon appears once again.
"Amazing!! Sakaki Yuya has managed to brilliantly squeeze his way out of certain defeat!" Nico Smiley exclaimed. "But Sawatari still has that powerful monster on his field. How will Yuya be able to defeat it!?"
He has a point. Yuya thought. Unless I find a way to defeat that monster, this duel is as good as over once his next turn comes. Although there's still a chance for me to make a comeback, it all depends on this draw!
He took a deep breath, placing his hand on the top of his deck.
"I draw!" Yuya took a look at the card and smiled.
"You seem happy, drew something good?" Sawatari inquired.
"Yeah. With this I'll be able to end this duel this turn!" Yuya declared.
"Sounds scary." Sawatari said. "Before anything, I activate Trick-O Pop Dragon's effect once again! Allowing me to add another "Dragon" monster from my deck to my hand!"
Sawatari drew a card and turned to Yuya.
"Let's see what this card of yours can do, Sakaki Yuya!"
"With pleasure!" Yuya revealed his card. "I activate the Spell Card, Fusion! With it, I'll fuse my Performapal Drummerilla together with my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon in order to create a new monster!"
"Fusion?!" Sawatari's eyes widened, although he calmed down a moment later and smiled. "Guess it wouldn't be entertaining if we don't constantly switch things up."
"That's right!" Yuya then began chanting as his monster began fusing together. "The ferocity of a wild animal, and the destructive power of a dragon. Blend together to become the epitome of a destructive calamity! Fusion Summon! Appear, Level 8! Performapal Gatlinghoul (Dark/Fiend/Fusion/Effect/ATK: 2900/DEF: 900/LV: 8)!"
An angry goblin creature with a top hat appears on the field, holding a machine gun in its hand.
"You sure that's a monster suited for an entertainer?" Sawatari sweatdropped. "It even had a rather menacing summoning chant."
"You're huge dragon over there doesn't fit the bill either." Yuya shot back.
"Touché," Sawatari said. "However, cool things like dragons are just as, if not more entertaining than cute and quirky monsters."
"Guess that's something we both can agree on." Yuya smiled before continuing his turn. "I activate Performapal Gatlinghoul's first effect! When this card is Fusion Summoned, I can deal 200 points of damage for each card on the field. Since we both have two cards each, you take 800 points of damage!"
Gatlinghoul shoots a round of bullets at Sawatari, causing the boy to wince in pain as his life points are lowered.
Sawatari — LP: 2000 → 1200
"Don't think I'm done yet!" Yuya smiled. "I activate Gatlinghoul's other effect! If this monster is Fusion Summoned using a "Pendulum Monster" as material, I can destroy one monster on my opponent's field! I choose your Seaswarm King Leviathan!"
Gatlinghoul shoots another round of bullets, this time targeting and piercing through Sawatari's monster.
"Now for the finale!" Yuya declared. "When a monster is destroyed through Gatlinghoul's effect, you receive damage equal to that monster's attack points! And since you only have 1200 life points compared to your monster's 5600 attack points, you'll lose this duel!"
Seaswarm King Leviathan explodes on Sawatari, blowing up dust everywhere.
The crowd stood in suspense, wondering what had happened. As the dust clears up, Sawatari is revealed to still be okay.
"What?! No way!" Yuya exclaimed in shock. "Did you use an Action Card?!"
"Good guess, sadly you're wrong." Sawatari smirked. "I activated my Spirit Dragon's effect. By discarding it from my hand, I can reduce damage I receive from battle or effect to 0. Also, when a 'Ritual Dragon' is destroyed, I can add Draconic Manifestation back to my hand."
"So that was the card you drew with Trick-O Pop Dragon's effect." Yuya grimaced. "I can at least destroy your last monster though! Battle! Performapal Gatlinghoul, attack his Trick-O Pop Dragon! Raging Spray!"
Gatlinghoul growls loudly as it fires at Trick-O Pop Dragon, destroying the dragon made of sweets.
"And with that, I end my turn. Your move, Sawatari!" Yuya said.
"Even with Sakaki Yuya's fantastic counterplay, Sawatari Shingo has still managed to stay in this duel!" Nico Smiley announced. "However, he now has no monsters in his hand or field, and his life points are dwindling. How will Sawatari Shingo come back from this?!"
"These two are amazing! They're neck and neck!"
"I can't seem to choose who to root for!"
"My money is on Yuya!"
"Mine's on Sawatari, he's definitely got some sort of plan to get back from this!"
"It doesn't matter who wins, I just don't want this duel to end!"
The crowd cheered and discussed the ongoing duel amongst themselves, something that caused the two duelists in question to smile.
"Looks like the crowd is all riled up now, Sakaki." Sawatari acknowledged. "We've managed to reach their hearts with this duel of ours."
"Yeah, it sucks that it's coming to an end though." Yuya sighed. "You have no cards in your hand or field, and you don't have any more effects that activate from the graveyard. And the difference in our life points is too great, when my next turn comes around, I'll end up as the victor of our match."
"That's where you're wrong, Sakaki." Sawatari shook his finger disapprovingly, "It's too soon to count me out yet Sakaki. I still have a chance with my next draw, just like how you made a comeback with your draw. The fate of this duel will all come down to this!"
Sawatari placed his hand on the top of his deck, the golden crystal on his pendant beginning to glow.
"My turn! Draw!" Sawatari draws his next card in a dramatic passion, smiling at what he got. "I activate the Spell Card, Fated Draws. I get to draw five cards from my deck if I guess whether or not the top card of my deck is a monster, spell, or trap card! If I guess wrong, I have to send the top five cards in my deck to the graveyard, and lose 500 life points for each card sent there! I predict it'll be another Spell Card!"
"Relying on luck." Yuya smiled. "Let's see if your faith in your deck pays."
It all comes down to this. Sawatari thought as his pendant glowed even more, spreading its influence towards the boy deck. Time to put my luck to the test!
"Draw!" Sawatari draws a card, revealing it to be the Spell Card Dragon Armor.
"I guessed the card correctly, so I got to draw five more cards!" Sawatari sends Dragon Armor to the graveyard and draws five cards. As soon as he did though, his jaw dropped. "Huh? What the hell?"
"What happened?" Yuya inquired. "Got a bad draw or something?"
"Not at all." Sawatari quickly composed himself. "In fact. It's even greater than what I expected to get!"
Sawatari then outstretched his arms and addressed the crowd, "Welcome one and all to 'The Great Sawatari Shingo Show!' Currently, I have just drawn five cards thanks to my Spell Card's fantastic effect, and let me tell you—these cards will keep you on the edge of your seat with this dazzling prowess!"
Little did he know, what he did next would be something that would drag him towards a bigger conflict one might say he wasn't ready for…but that's for another time.
"I set the Pendulum Scale with Scale 3 Driver Dragon and Scale 9 Harbinger Magician! Let the show begin!" Sawatari declared, placing two cards on opposite ends of the field, the word "Pendulum" appearing between them.
Contrasting Yuya's Pendulum Summon, Sawatari's Pendulum Zones were a golden color. A dragon with a circuit-like body and a magician cloaked in a black, holding a wooden staff that had a yellow orb at the top appeared in each of the zones. In the center was a yellow pendulum, similar to Sawatari's pendant that swung back and forth at the center.
"What?!" Yuya couldn't believe what he was hearing or seeing, a sentiment shared by literally everyone present.
"How'd that guy manage to get Pendulum Cards?!" Hiiragi Yuzu, Yuya's childhood friend, asked aloud.
She, along with everyone else standing around her in the stands had the same question.
"I, the man Gongenzaka, have absolutely no idea." Noboru Gongenzaka, Yuya's best friend, responded with similar confusion.
"Interesting…" Sora, a friend of Yuya and a new student at the You Show Duel School commented under his breath while licking a yellow lollipop.
"ARGH! He's stealing our boy Yuya's whole flow! So, not cool!" Hiiragi Shuzo, Yuzu's hotblooded father and the Principal of the You Show Duel School yelled, causing Yuzu to smack him on the head with a paper fan.
"Gramps, you're embarrassing us." Sakaki Yosuke, Yuya's older brother facepalmed at the older man's antics. Unlike Yuya, his hair was completely black and styled neatly, the only similar feature between the two being their red eyes.
"Aren't you concerned about the fact that someone else other than your brother is able to use Pendulum Summons?!" Shuzo inquired.
"It was bound to happen eventually." Yosuke simply stated. "Didn't you plan on incorporating something like Pendulum into our school's curriculum to attract more students?"
"Yeah, but…"
"Don't worry, Yuya will be fine. I'm sure of it." Yosuke reassured him. "Let's just continue watching this duel while rooting for him."
———————————————————————————
Elsewhere…
"Sir, we're picking up the energies of another Pendulum Summon!"
"Is it Sakaki Yuya?" A silver-haired man wearing a red scarf asked.
"No, it's coming from a different duel disk. This is the information we've managed to gather about the duelist."
They handed the man the documents they had managed to find, the results greatly intriguing the teen.
How interesting. Akaba Reiji thought.
Sawatari Shingo, son of Sawatari Furio, a high ranking official who's been actively trying to become mayor, and also a student here at LDS. Showed an above average aptitude for dueling, but nothing truly exceptional. Uses a deck composed of random "Dragon", "Magician", and "Warrior" monsters, and managed to learn not only Xyz, but Ritual Summoning during his time at LDS. Has a dream to become an entertainment duelist.
Reiji had known about the teen for a while, but from the reports and rumors he's heard, he was extremely arrogant, which caused him to lose quite a number of duels.
Sawatari Shingo, looks like I'll have to pay more attention to you after all.
———————————————————————————
"With my current scale, I can summon monsters Levels 4 through 8 all at the same time!" Sawatari announced as a golden portal appeared under the giant Pendulum. "Shine, my golden arc. Guide my soul to the victory I seek! Pendulum Summon! First up to appear on stage is Stardust Drake (Light/Dragon/Pendulum/ATK: 1400/DEF: 2500/LV: 6/SC: 5) in defense mode, followed by Pois-flower Witch (Dark/Spellcaster/Tuner/Pendulum/ATK: 500/DEF: 1400/LV: 4/SC: 1) also in defense mode!"
A wingless quadrupedal dragon with white, shiny scales and a female monster wearing a purple witch hat and a matching cloak appeared.
"And finally, the main star! The Forgotten's King's Blade: New Dawn Noble Paladin (Light/Warrior/Pendulum/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 8/SC: 0)!"
The last monster to appear, a humanoid being wearing golden plated armor. An odd marking that glowed white appeared on the center of the monster's chest plate. The warrior held a blade that glowed in a brilliant light, bringing a feeling of warmth to the monsters nearby.
"I-Incredible!!!" Nico Smiley exclaimed. "Sawatari Shingo has somehow managed to Pendulum Summon?! I don't know how he's managed to get Pendulum Cards, but I'm way too invested to question it!"
"I feel like giving myself a new name now. How about 'Neo Great Sawatari Shingo'. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?" Sawatari gloated and posed. "Or should I be called 'The Great Pendulum Master Sawatari Shingo?' Ooh, the possibilities."
"How…" Yuya was almost absolutely speechless. "How'd you manage to get Pendulum Cards?!"
"Don't know." Sawatari shrugged. "Whatever caused them to appear doesn't matter to me, I'll be sure to make use of these cards to the fullest! Pois-flower Witch's effect activates! Once per turn, if I have another 'Pendulum' monster on my field, I can add one 'Pendulum Spellcaster' monster from my deck to my hand!"
Sawatari drew a card.
"Next I'll activate my New Dawn Paladin's effect! By banishing one "Warrior" monster from my graveyard, I can increase this monster's attack by 1000 for the rest on the turn! Hope of the Fallen!"
(New Dawn Paladin ATK: 2500 → 3500)
"Now its attack is higher than Performapal Gatlinghoul!" Yuzu frowned. "Yuya…"
"Battle! New Dawn Paladin, destroy his monster! Dawning Breaker!" Sawatari shouts as his warrior rushes forward, slashing its shining sword down on the monster. The force of the blow sent Yuya skidding back a few meters.
Yuya — LP: 8000 → 7400
"Now for the second act!" Sawatari declared. "Stardust Drake, attack Sakaki Yuya directly!"
But it's in defense mode, how can it attack? Yuya wondered as he ran for an Action Card. Wait…does it have an effect similar to Gongenzaka's monsters?
"And for those curious, my Stardust Drake can attack while it's in defense mode!" Sawatari informed. "Now go my monster! Headlong Roller!"
Stardust Drake rolled itself into a ball, rolling towards Yuya at a quick pace thanks to fin-like spikes on its back.
"I activate the Action Spell Evasion in order to negate your attack—!" Yuya declared as he placed the Action Spell on his duel disk, only for it to be rejected. "—huh?"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Sawatari shook his head. "Harbinger Magician's Pendulum effect prevents the activation of Spell/Trap cards when my 'Pendulum' monsters battle. So my attack still goes through!"
Yuya is hit head-on by the rolling dragon, sending him flying into a wall, letting out a scream in pain.
Yuya — LP: 7400 → 4900
"I think that's enough punishment for one turn, I'll end things right here, New Dawn Paladin's attack returning back to normal (New Dawn Paladin ATK: 3500 → 2500)." Sawatari said. "You better make some sort of comeback next turn, if not, I'll be sure to reduce the rest of your life points in a flashy manner befitting a first-rate duelist like me!"
Yuya struggled back onto his feet, a bit of blood trickling down his nose. Oddly however, he's smiling.
"You're really good, Sawatari. You're really pushing me to my limit here." Yuya complimented and he finally stood up. "However, I don't plan on letting you keep the spotlight all to yourself!"
"Really now?" Sawatari scoffed but accepted the challenge anyway. "If you think you can do that, come at me! Show us your magic, give us a spectacle!"
"That's what I plan on doing! Draw!" Yuya drew a card, smiling once he saw what he got. "Ladies and gentlemen! We've finally reached the climax of our fantastic duel! Throughout this duel, each of us have been pushed to the brink by our opponent, and at the same time, each of us have managed to bounce back from almost impossible odds!"
Yuya then revealed the card in his hand, that card being Performapal Trump Witch.
"I set Scale 4 Performapal Trump Witch along with my Scale 8 Timegazer Magician in my Pendulum Zone! I'm taking control of this duel starting now!"
Yuya places the card into his empty Pendulum Zone, causing a small humanoid monster with blond hair and blue witch costume to slowly rise up in it.
"Now I can summon monsters between Levels 5 through 8 all at the same time! Swing, Pendulum of my Soul! Draw an arc of light across the ether! Pendulum Summon! Returning from my Extra Deck, Performapal Drummerilla, Stargazer Magician (Dark/Spellcaster/Pendulum/ATK: 1200/DEF: 2400/LV: 5/SC: 1), and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Along with his other two monsters was a male magician dressed in intricate white clothing, holding a weird weapon with a centerpiece shaped in a circle.
"Swarming the field with a bunch of monsters is a neat idea, but what good will it really do?" Sawatari arrogantly asked.
"This! I activate Performapal Trump Witch's Pendulum Effect!" Yuya declared. "With it, I can Fusion Summon a monster from my Extra Deck using monsters on my field as material!"
"Another Fusion Summon?!" Sawatari went agape. "And without a Spell Card to boot…"
"I fuse my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon together with my Stargazer Magician!" Yuya said as his two monsters fuse together. "Wielder of mysterious powers, become the bright light and dwell in the eyes of the dragon! Fusion Summon! Come forth! Arcane dragon wielder of ancient magic! Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (Dark/Dragon/Fusion/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000/LV: 8!"
Appearing on the field this time was a dragon with similar features to Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. The largest difference being the enormous, golden ring that protruded from its back.
"That's a scary dragon…" Sawatari sweatdropped at the sight of it.
"I'm not done, Drummerilla's effect now activates!" Yuya continued. "Once per turn, I can target a monster I control and increase its attack by 600 until the End Phase! I choose my Rune-Eyes (Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon ATK: 3000 → 3600)!"
"Yahoo! Go, Yuya!" Shuzo exclaims from the stands. "Show that fraud who the real Pendulum Master is!"
—BAM!
"Shut up!" Yuzu scolded.
"Battle!" Yuya declares with his arm pointing forward. "Performapal Drummerilla attacks your Pois-flower Witch!"
Yuya's monster jumps forward, whacking Sawatari's monster on the head and causing it to blow up.
"Now the finale!" Yuya said. "Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's effect activates, when this card is Fusion Summoned using a Level 5 or higher Spellcaster monster as Fusion Material, this card can make three attacks during the battle phase!
"Three?!" Sawatari's jaw dropped as he watched the dragon's golden ring glow.
"Since you only have two monsters on the field, Rune-Eyes will be able to deal over 4000 points of damage to you this turn! You also can't activate effects to negate it since Rune-Eyes is unaffected by them on the first turn this card is summoned onto the field!"
Sawatari quickly ran to find an Action Spell, hoping to find something that could help him, and when he thought he found one it ended up being the Action Trap Discard, which forced him to discard a Spell/Trap card from his hand.
"Go, Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Spiral Skyshot!" Yuya commands his monster. The dragon in question shoots out a golden beam from the center of its golden ring towards Sawatari. Engulfing him and his monsters completely.
…
Dust completely blocked the view of everyone
"Did…he do it?" Yuzu asked.
"He must have." Gongenzaka confidently said. "I the man Gongenzaka saw no way for him to get out of that attack, especially after he ended up grabbing an Action Trap Card at the end."
"Yuya!" Shuzo sobbed tears of joy. "Way to show how the You Show Duel School uses Pendulum!"
"We don't use it though." Sora sweatdropped. "Only Yuya, and I guess Sawatari now, can do it. Although I really wish we did."
"Shh. Don't ruin the moment!"
"Uh, guys." Yosuke frowned as he pointed at the arena. "It's not over yet."
"What?!" Shuzo couldn't believe his eyes. "N-no way?!"
In front of Sawatari was a golden statue that stood stall, a little damaged from shielding the teen from the attack.
[The King's Servant (Earth/Spellcaster/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 2000/LV: 4/SC: 3)]
Sawatari — LP: 1200 → 100
"No way?!" Now it was Yuya's turn to drop his jaw in shock. "Don't tell me you did the same thing you did last time again…"
"What can I say, it's quite stylish to emerge from the dust unscathed." Sawatari flicked his hair confidently before explaining. "I activated The King's Servant's effect from my hand. While I couldn't negate all of the battle damage, I managed to negate the damage I would've received from your final attack thanks to this card."
"Well, that's all I got." Yuya shrugged. "I end my turn (Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon ATK: 3600 → 3000). You're really good, you handle everything I throw at you almost flawlessly."
"Naturally." Sawatari smirked. "If I couldn't at least do something like that, I wouldn't be a first-rate duelist now would I?"
Sawatari's expression then turned serious.
"Now this has been fun and all, but even an entertaining duel like this one must come to an end." Sawatari said as he started his turn. "Draw! Using my current scale, I summon back the monsters you destroyed on your turn!"
Pois-flower Witch, Stardust Drake, and New Dawn Paladin all return to the field.
"I overlay my Level 4 Pois-Flower Witch together with my Level 4 The King's Servant!" Sawatari's two monsters turn into glowing energy that is dragged into the wormhole. "Apex predator of the lush green forests, descend now and begin your hunt! Xyz Summon! Fight on, Rank 4! Green-Eyes Jet Wyvern (Dark/Dragon/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 2000/DEF: 2000/R: 4/OU: 2)!"
A black wyvern monster with glowing green eyes and wings appeared on the field.
"I activate Jet Wyvern's effect!" Sawatari continued. "By detaching both of its overlay units, I can increase the attack of two of my monsters on my field by the number of "Dragon" monsters I currently have in my field and graveyard times 300! Since I have 6 "Dragon" monsters in both my field and graveyard, my monster's attack increased by 1800! I choose to apply this effect to New Dawn Paladin (ATK: 2500 → 4300) and Green-Eyes Jet Wyvern (ATK: 2000 → 3800)!"
"4300 and 3800 attack points respectively, that's way more than Yuya Rune-Eyes!" Yuzu grimaced.
"And Yuya can't activate Spell Cards to stop the damage thanks to Harbinger Magician's Pendulum Effect." Yosuke frowned. "He lost."
"What?! You don't know that for sure though!" Shuzo countered. "He's always been able to make miraculous comebacks in the past, I'm sure he'll make one here as well!"
"There's literally nothing he could do. The only thing he could potentially do is use Drummerilla's effect to increase Rune-Eye's attack, but even that won't matter much." Yosuke explained. "Otherwise, he has absolutely no potential counterplay. To make things worse, the action card he has in his hand right now is Evasion, something that absolutely won't help him."
"Time for the finale!" Sawatari declared. "Stardust Drake, attack his Drummerilla! Headlong Roller!"
Stardust Drake rolls into Drummerilla, destroying it.
Yuya — LP: 4900 → 4000
"Green-Eyes Jet Wyvern, attack his Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Jet Stream!"
Jet Wyvern raises its altitude before diving down crashing into Rune-Eyes.
Yuya — LP: 4000 → 3200
"And finally, the main star! New Dawn Paladin, attack Sakaki Yuya directly! Dawning Breaker!"
New Dawn Paladin rushes forward, slashing Yuya and creating an explosion that sends Yuya flying back.
Yuya — LP: 3200 → 0
Winner: Sawatari
The Action Field slowly disappears as Sawatari slowly walks up to his opponent, his eyes covered under his hair.
"Hey, you need help there, Sakaki?" Sawatari outstretched his hand.
"Yeah." Yuya returns the gesture, with Sawatari helping the teen up. "Thanks."
"No problem, Sakaki. It's not like I was the sole reason this duel was entertaining, you played your part too." Sawatari complimented. "Now let's match our fans' energy, don't you hear their cheers."
Yuya turned to see the crowd cheering their name, expressing their love of the duel and how intense of a match it was.
"Thank you, everyone!" Sawatari smiled and waved at the crowd. "Thank you for watching Neo Great Sawatari Shingo's dueltaining debut!"
"After a brilliant back and forth duel between two Pendulum users, Sawatari Shingo has emerged a victor even after nearly losing a few times." Nico Smiley clapped. "Brilliant, simply brilliant!"
[Thank you everyone!] The two duelists continue waving at the fans.

Sawatari Corner:
LarsonWrites: And that's the first chapter. It's not perfect, I'm sure I could've done more to make this chapter even better, but that's for future me when I eventually come back to polish the older chapters.
Neo Great Sawatari Shingo: I think it was perfect, I got to shine after all.
LarsonWrites: I should've made you lose.
Neo Great Sawatari Shingo: No way! How could I ever lose to a second-rate duelist like him?!
LarsonWrites: Didn't you end up respecting Yuya after the duel though?
Neo Great Sawatari Shingo: Yeah, that's why I called him a second-rate duelist instead of a third-rate duelist.
Larson Writes: And you're a first-rate duelist?
Neo Great Sawatari Shingo: Obviously.
LarsonWrites: Yeah, no more talking until the next chapter.
Neo Great Sawatari Shingo: Wait no-

This duel took me quite a while to write, since I needed to make all of the cards from scratch and also plan out how I wanted the duel to go. I considered making Sawatari lose a few times (since it might help with his development later on), but eventually I decided to just let him win, since he was playing way better than Yuya was overall in this duel.
Even in a duel like this, I still managed to make Yuya an action card merchant, which I'll try to limit with the addition of Action Traps for real this time, so there's a way to punish those who make use of action cards.
Also sorry about making this duel so long, even though it was only 6 turns long, I somehow managed to drag it out over 27 pages on Google Docs and over 7K words. Since this is the first duel of the Fanfic, I wanted to start out with something big. I'll try to make the duels a little shorter and more smooth flowing.
Next chapter will most likely involve a duel between Sawatari and Yosuke, Yuya's OC brother in this Fanfic (don't worry, I'll make sure he actually ends up being relevant), and the start of the main plot. It'll take me a while to put the chapter out since I actually need to plan out how I want the story to really progress. It'll obviously follow a similar format to the original, with the dimensional war and stuff, but how I want each dimension to play out will be different.
I predict the Standard Dimension Arc will take at least 7-10 chapters to end, most likely 15+ depending on how I handle the duels.
Last thing, don't expect too many characters to get a lot of focus. I'm a more newbie writer and I mainly plan on focusing on Sawatari and probably Serena mainly later on. Other characters will get their time to shine, but maybe not as much as some would hope. Who knows? As of writing this, I haven't really written much of the story yet, so I might be completely wrong.
Thanks for reading, be sure to write a review and suggestions for the story, I'll be reading basically all of them so be sure to criticize this (obviously be civil with the criticism, like actually explaining what you don't like so I can make it better).
