"Fuck!"
Sean unfastened the seatbelt and jumped out of the vehicle. He rolled for dozens of meters before he could stop, and was surrounded by darkness. His feet sunk in the snow, and the wind carried a chilling breeze. He stood up and stared up, right at the moon. He hadn't seen it wrong, it was blood red. Sean jumped on one of the bare branches of the trees, and perched there, his gaze following the still-moving vehicles.
"How many layers is this? Three? Will it be four?"
The situation was ridiculous. He didn't know when the illusion had started, and how deep it was. The only thing he could do was to question everything, and always look out for inconsistencies. Illusions like this always had a weak point, where the reality did not match what it should have been. At first, he thought it was the Blood Moon, then it was the calmness of the situation, and now it was his friends waking up at the same time with him and no one else waking up.
