"Run, Light! That guy is catching up!"
On a desolate street, Light sprinted desperately, his figure a blur in the dim light. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined being chased down like a stray dog. The sheer helplessness he felt at this moment was unlike anything he had ever experienced.
"Run? Where could I even run to?" Light glanced at Ryuk beside him, his frustration evident. He had barely begun executing his grand plan to "save the world" when Alexander, the one called the creator, started hunting him down.
The streets were cloaked in darkness, deserted and eerily quiet. Hiding in the shadows of an alley, Light pressed himself against the cold wall, trying to calm his breathing. His ears picked up an odd, haunting nursery rhyme echoing faintly.
"Twinkle…twinkle…little stars… how I wonder what you are~"
The eerie, off-key singing grated on Light's nerves. He knew it was Alexander's voice, but he couldn't understand—how could someone so powerful and imposing sing something so ridiculous?
Was this supposed to be a taunt?
"Light," Alexander's voice rang out, calm yet unnervingly close. "Don't bother hiding. Where else can you go?"
Light stiffened at the sound and turned to Ryuk.
"Ryuk, is your notebook waterproof?"
"Waterproof? Yeah, but why? What are you planning—hey, wait! Light!"
Before Ryuk could stop him, Light hurled the 'Death Note' into the nearby river, keeping only a single page and a pen.
The 'Death Note's' abilities allowed even a torn page to retain its full power, ensuring Light could still use it despite discarding the rest.
"You want to catch me?" Light muttered, a faint smirk forming on his lips. "Even if you are the creator, it won't be that easy."
Gripping the pen tightly, Light began to write with swift, deliberate strokes:
Alexander Chase
Cause of death: Struck by lightning.
RUMBLE!
A powerful bolt of lightning cracked the sky, its intensity immense. This wasn't ordinary lightning. It carried the raw, devastating power of nature, comparable to the 2-billion-volt electric strikes of Mikoto.
Unaware that his name had just been inscribed in the 'Death Note', Alexander continued his pursuit.
"Light, didn't you say writing Alexander's name wouldn't work?" Ryuk asked in confusion. He clearly remembered Light trying—and failing—to kill Alexander previously.
Light's expression darkened as he responded, "That's because the last time, I wrote that Alexander would die of a heart attack. It didn't work because of some unknown condition. But I've done my homework. If I specify the cause of death—like a lightning strike—the 'Death Note''s power should trigger. It's inevitable."
Indeed, Light had been preparing for this moment. He knew the day would come when his identity was exposed, so he had planned meticulously. By discarding the 'Death Note', Light ensured that if he died, the death note would select a new owner. But if he survived, Ryuk would help him recover it.
Now, everything hinged on the results of his gambit: would Alexander be struck down by the lightning?
RUMBLE!
Alexander looked up at the massive thunderbolt streaking down from the sky. It was impossibly fast—something no ordinary person could hope to dodge.
CRACKLE!
In an instant, the lightning struck Alexander, its deafening roar echoing through the air.
Avalon, activate!
At that moment, the immense thunder force dissipated without a trace, leaving Alexander completely unscathed.
"That bastard! He actually dares you to write my name!"
Alexander clenched his fists in anger, unable to believe what had just happened. If not for Avalon's protection, that lightning strike might have killed him! Despite possessing the ability to control lightning, he had only acquired its power, not immunity to it. Just like the Electromaster ability he inherited from Mikoto, he hadn't gained her immunity to lightning. At the end of the day, he was still a mortal human being!
However, he realized something critical: the 'Death Note' still had some effect on him.
"What a troublesome guy," Alexander muttered, irritation clear in his tone. "Who knows what other bizarre ways of dying he might've written."
Though Avalon could nullify almost any injury, Alexander couldn't be sure it could handle something like aging, illness, or other natural causes of death. It was an unsettling thought.
Unbeknownst to Alexander, Light had already written his name in the 'Death Note', listing the cause of death as a heart attack. But Alexander possessed Gabriel's angelic healing abilities, which had instantly counteracted the heart attack the moment it began, healing him completely.
Still, Alexander felt frustrated. He stretched out his hand, silently contemplating his next move. While his abilities covered a wide range of offense, defense, and support, he lacked a reliable way to track his target.
This gap in his abilities had allowed Light to evade him for so long. But Alexander wasn't about to give up. Even without conventional tracking methods, he had other ways to handle the situation.
WHOOSH!
In an instant, a radiant spear materialized in Alexander's hand.
The Force of Destiny—Gungnir, the Spear of the All-Father!
This legendary spear possessed the unique ability to always strike its target once locked on. While it might have limitations if the gap in power was too great, Alexander was certain now—Light was nearby.
"Light Yagami," Alexander said, a cold glint in his eyes, "your time has come."
