Chereads / The Demonic Child / Chapter 51 - 51.Coffin Scratch

Chapter 51 - 51.Coffin Scratch

I was exhausted from dealing with Zhang Yunliang, who was under control before, and the sudden zombie.

Seeing that the zombie finally lay still on the ground, I finally let out a sigh of relief and collapsed directly onto the ground.

A sharp pain shot through my arms, and blood flowed continuously down my arms.

The zombie's claws had torn through my shoulders, leaving behind several large bloody holes that were constantly bleeding and swelling.

Zhang Yunyao saw the wounds on my shoulders.

Even after being bandaged, blood was still seeping through.

She was at a loss for what to do and was so worried that tears welled up in her eyes.

Seeing her like that, I smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm fine."

As I spoke, I turned to look at the wound on my shoulder, and my face turned pale.

The blood flowing from the wound had changed color.

It should have been bright red, but now it looked somewhat black.

  Zombies carry corpse poison.

Whether you are scratched or bitten by them, you are likely to become infected with the poison.

Fortunately, the Zhang family ancestor's body had only recently turned into a zombie, so the corpse poison was not very strong yet.

I found a pack of glutinous rice from my bag, which I had prepared beforehand.

Moving graves inevitably involves contact with corpses and could lead to many unforeseen dangers.

Therefore, before I left, I prepared a lot of things in case of emergencies.

After all, this was my first time taking on a job, and I had no experience.

I immediately applied the glutinous rice to the wound.

A sharp pain shot through my body, and a white smoke with a foul odor emanated from the wound.

  This resolved the corpse poison.

However, not all glutinous rice can cure corpse poison.

There are strict requirements for the glutinous rice.

The glutinous rice that can cure corpse poison must go through a very complex process to achieve this effect.

First, the glutinous rice must be soaked in a child's urine for forty-nine days, and then sun-dried under the scorching sun for another forty-nine days.

If it rains for a single day during this period, the glutinous rice will lose its effectiveness in curing corpse poison, or its effect will be greatly reduced.

After applying two handfuls of glutinous rice, the glutinous rice absorbed the corpse poison and turned black.

The swelling and numbness subsided significantly.

But it still hurt. I was sweating profusely.

Zhang Yunyao could only watch me work from the side, not knowing how to help. Her face looked very anxious.

"I'm fine now. Help me up." I said to her.

Zhang Yunyao immediately came over, put my hand on her shoulder, and helped me up from the ground.

I was a little weak after all that activity, but I would be fine after resting for a while.

"Mr. Wu, my brother is still lying there. Is he in any danger?" Zhang Yunyao asked cautiously.

"Don't worry about him. He's not in any immediate danger." I said impatiently.

Everything that happened here was the result of that kid's actions.

If he had been obedient and waited for me to come back before moving the grave, nothing would have happened.

He not only harmed others but also almost killed himself.

Zhang Yunyao bit her lip and said apologetically, "Mr. Wu, I'm sorry. I know it was my brother who caused trouble, but he's still my brother. You can't just ignore him."

"This is your brother's fault, not yours. You don't need to apologize. Don't worry, since I've taken on your family's job, I won't ignore him." I said sternly.

Zhang Yunyao finally felt relieved and repeatedly apologized.

After resting for a while, I felt my strength returning.

I told Zhang Yunyao to stay there and not move, then ran into the forest nearby to search.

When I was dealing with the zombie earlier, I saw a dark shadow in the forest.

That shadow was the one who controlled Zhang Yunliang.

He was also the one who tampered with the Zhang family's ancestral grave.

I wanted to find him and ask him why he did it.

But when I returned to the forest, the shadow was already gone.

Maybe he was hiding somewhere, but I couldn't find him.

Just as I was about to turn back, I suddenly heard a scream of terror, which startled me.

Because the voice belonged to Zhang Yunyao.

Hearing the commotion, I immediately quickened my pace and ran towards the direction of the Zhang family's ancestral grave.

Soon, I saw Zhang Yunyao standing in the middle of several coffins, her hands covering her mouth, her face full of terror.

Seeing that she was okay, I felt relieved.

  "What's wrong?" I asked as I approached.

As soon as she saw me, Zhang Yunyao suddenly ran over and threw herself into my arms.

She must have been terrified. Her whole body was trembling, and she said in a choked voice, "The coffins... there's movement in the coffins. I just heard it."

Seeing her terrified appearance, I was a little puzzled.

She wasn't afraid of the zombie earlier, but she was so scared of some noises from the coffins.

Women are really hard to understand.

"Don't be afraid. I'm here." I patted Zhang Yunyao's back lightly and gently pushed her away.

My eyes then turned to the coffins nearby.

Suddenly, I realized something very important.

The workers the Zhang family had hired earlier, along with Uncle Huzi, were all missing.

  Where did they go?

Why was only Zhang Yunliang, who was under the control of someone, here?

When I held my breath and listened carefully, I could indeed hear a faint sound coming from one of the coffins.

In the middle of the night, in the quiet wilderness, sounds coming from a coffin were certainly scary.

As I listened carefully, I couldn't help but feel a chill down my spine.

Because the sound coming from the coffin seemed like the scratching of fingernails on the coffin lid.

"Creak creak..." The sound grew louder.

After a while, one of the old coffins that had been dug up trembled slightly.

Seeing this, my face turned pale.

Could it be that all the Zhang family ancestors in the coffins that were dug up had turned into zombies?

  That zombie nearly killed me.

If so many more came out, I would definitely be doomed.

Thinking about this, I suddenly had an urge to run away.

I finally understood why the Eight-Tailed Fox didn't want me to come to the Zhang family's ancestral grave.

It was really not safe at all.

  But I couldn't run.

Once I ran, if those bodies really turned into zombies and ran into the nearby villages, countless people would die.

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down.

Then I looked at Zhang Yunyao and said, "Go back to the car and stay there. Don't come out."
