Monster is a 2003 American biographical crime drama film written and directed by Patty Jenkins in her feature directorial debut. The film follows serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a street prostitute who murdered seven of her male clients between 1989 and 1990 and is set to be executed in Florida in October 2002. (Wikipedia.)
It was quite devious that the woman's autobiography movie was going to be released a year after her death. As if someone decided to make a film out of her after knowing that she would die.
The leading female lead of the movie was actually Charlize Theron. She put a lot of weight on the role and even resorted to shaving her eyebrows. She sacrificed a lot just to perform the best in Monster.
Why? Because Monster was a movie that was created for the Academy Awards. The plot, the characters, everything was set so that the movie would be nominated for Academy Awards and other film festivals/awards.
And that was actually what happened. Monster was nominated in many award ceremonies and festivals.
In Academy Awards, Charlize Theron won the Best Actress Award. The biggest award that an actress could ever get in her entire life. Charlize might sacrificed a lot for the role but the achievements she received were worth it.
At the Golden Globes, Charlize Theron also won the Best Actress. Another major award ceremony in Hollywood.
Screen Actors Guild Awards.
American Film Institute Awards.
Berlin International Film Festival.
So on and so forth.
Charlize Theron garnered so many awards by portraying a prostitute serial killer, which was a hard thing to do actually. Charlize Theron was a beautiful actress but she decided to destroy her image just for this role.
Academy Awards saw her dedication and gave her the Best Actress Award, the golden statue that represents her achievement in the industry.
Yet from the looks of it, Brianna Evans was interested in the project as well.
Kazir narrowed his gaze as he stared at Brianna Evans. He could see that Brianna was in the state of method acting... And she was deep into it.
Someone like her might lose herself if she continued this psychotic role.
A lot of actors/actresses became traumatized by the roles they portrayed, and someone like Brianna who does method acting was prone to it.
Shelly Duval in The Shining.
Adrien Brody in The Pianist.
Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight Rises.
These people suffered from their role... One of them even died.
If Brianna continued this path, her stardom would not last.
"Babe?" Angelina sensed that Kazir was staring at Brianna too much so she squeezed his arms.
She didn't like it when he stared at other girls...
Kazir returned to his senses and apologized to Angelina. The woman pouted but let it go.
Then, Kazir talked to Salvatore who was waiting for his response.
"Did she get the role or she's just going to audition?"
"She's going to audition, but from the looks of it, the producer is interested in casting her," Salvatore replied based on the information he got.
"Salvatore, don't let Brianna take this role. I say she fits bubbly girl roles and sweet-girl-type roles. Not something serious like this."
"That's also what I said to her but she said that she's tired of that. She said that she wants something serious, something that will challenge her acting."
"I understand. If I found a role that suited her, I'll tell you."
"I'm fine with anything as long as it's not a serial killer... I'm scared of Brianna right now, to be honest."
Kazir nodded and agreed. He looked at Brianna and found the woman talking to Ben Stiller but her demeanor was not jolly. Ben Stiller felt awkward and he didn't know how to act. He also felt that Brianna was acting differently.
The premiere of Meet The Fockers went on and nothing much really happened. They just watched the movie and did some interviews.
Paramount was the investor and distributor of Meet The Fockers and they were serious about making money.
Meet The Parents was written by Kazir and Paramount got the script in exchange for distributing Three movies. Meet The Fockers was also part of the contract. In exchange for three movie distribution contract, Kazir had to write the trilogy of Meet The Parents for $500 thousand each.
I'd say both of them earned in this exchange.
Grey Pictures successfully started the Continental Cinematic Universe because Paramount distributed three of their movies. In exchange, Paramount got a franchise that gave them huge profit.
The script was written by Kazir, everyone had high expectations for the movie.
And their expectations were met, the first weekend of Meet The Fockers made $31.55 million.
Brianna Evans and Ben Stiller, together with the other cast, roamed North America to promote the movie. However they only went to Canada and the United States since these two countries were the ones that spent a lot on tickets.
Stuart Little 2, which was produced by Sony-Colombia, was also released on the same day as Meet The Fockers. The movie grossed $15 million on its first weekend.
With that, Meet The Fockers became the box office champion of the week.
However, the movie had a strong opponent next week.
Austin Powers in Goldmember, produced by New Line Cinema, was one of the most anticipated movies this year. The movie was funny and made a lot of people laugh.
On July 27(Sunday), Austin Powers in Goldmember made $55.65 million. Indeed, Austin Powers was one best comedy franchises of all time, and its box office showed why.
As for Meet The Fockers, well, it just made $132.85 million after being released for ten days...
Indeed, Meet The Parents(Fockers) was one of the best comedy franchises of all time and its box office showed why.
