With a little convincing display of fealty, Night Silver didn't worry about having a conversation with these new people that showed up. It wasn't much of anything significant, but it was clear that everyone of the winged humanoids had a complete understanding of the actions. This indicated that Rocky Breeze's words held merit. Now, the winged humans sat on the ground in what looked to be an incredibly uncomfortable position.
"Alright, first I'm going to ask, what kind of species are you? You look human in nearly every way, that is aside from the wings that sort of make you look closer to angels." Night Silver asked, laying down on her side holding her head up. I think this is the position that many goddesses would assume when those beneath them convened with them. They don't seem to be confused by it; perhaps they'll explain some more about their culture.
"Goddess, we call ourselves the Winged Humans. We live up in the mountains where the currents are strong and we can fly freely." Rocky Breeze explained, pausing. Should I tell her about our plight?
"Interesting, I'd very much like to see this place… But it seems you're not telling me everything." Night Silver said, narrowing her eyes with concern. Rocky Breeze nearly gulped. Standing up, Night Silver walked over to Rocky Breeze, placing a hand under his chin. "You have something bothering you, tell your goddess what it is." She said in the most goddess-like voice she could come up with.
"There's a Dragon Lord that ran us out of our home mountain. Fighting them is out of the question. Even with our ability to fly, it's still too much to ask for." Rocky Breeze explained, he felt compelled to speak, but he didn't feel bad about it. Rather he simply began to understand the most immutable truth of this world in which he lived. It doesn't matter what happens, this beautiful elven woman in front of me, she is my goddess. The goddess of my people. Nothing should be kept from her which means… "Goddess, I… I have something else to tell you. It's about when the Dragon Lord showed up…" He said, trembling.
Hmm, he's trembling. Is it out of fear… No, what about fury… Yes, interesting. I wonder what could drive someone to such an extent. "What is it? I can promise this, if it was done by a Dragon Lord, I won't blame you for anything. From the sounds of it, and the way you're reacting to the thought of it alone, it must be the result of a Dragon Lord." Night Silver spoke tenderly. "I have first hand experience of the strength a Dragon Lord possesses. Someone of your level, no matter how many there were, nothing would hurt those creatures." She continued, getting a flash back to the fight she had been sunk into right as soon as she showed up.
Rocky Breeze along with a few of the other, seemingly older men gulped audibly and in sync, it sounded like they were auditioning as the newest niche orchestra sound piece. On the surface it was funny to see and hear. However, beneath it all, the world hides all bad things with facades. Sometimes even against its own interests.
"Long ago, back when I was a young boy. We lived atop a mountain we called home. It was a beautiful place with many advantages. The Beast-men Races couldn't threaten us too much there with all of our natural barriers. Flight was the only thing that would give one access…" Rocky Breeze began, pausing for a moment.
Another one of the older men began speaking instead, recognizing that Rocky Breeze could no longer speak about it. "Where we lived was peaceful, flying around to train our wings. Then that day came… The wind suddenly became quiet. Our young have a difficult time with flight, so they'd only practice when there was a supportive breeze. I was a young boy back then when the wind stopped. The adults in charge of watching us managed to catch most of us bringing everyone safely to land…" This man stopped facing a similar issue to Rocky Breeze, an overly emotional response, out of anger and remorse.
"I too was there, it didn't take long for the Dragon Lord to appear. We thought we were safe, until that massive creature appeared. It destroyed the statue of our goddess. We don't even remember what her face looked like now, until we met you, Goddess." This time an older woman continued the story.
"My father was one of our strongest warriors at the time. And even he fell… Our warriors defended our escape. The fleeing adults carried children who couldn't fly on their own. While the young adults had to hope they could keep up… I looked back only to see the dragon lord spitting out feathers…" Another man continued, reeling at the memory.
"Those bastards really are horrible. Is this dragon lord still there?" Night Silver asked, watching all of the winged-humans nodding in unison. "Good, I'll take care of it. It will hate that it's only strong enough to defeat a statue of a goddess. Let's see how it fares against the real deal." She smirked. "Now that we've got that settled, I assume your current settlement is nearby, right? Otherwise you wouldn't have seen my tree from so far away." She asked.
"Uh, yes. Would you like to come back with us? We can escort you there." Rocky Breeze asked.
"I was planning on resting here for a few days. But… I would think it's a good idea to talk with the leader of your tribe. I'm curious about finding a really nice place for the dwarves to settle down. And they've been rather interested in building a large underground city. A mountain is the perfect place for that, wouldn't you think?" Night Silver said, thinking about her options.
"Oh, if that's all, I'm sure the chief would know of a place. We have to report about every bit of landscape we see whenever we fly out. If there is a perfect place for them, the chief or the records keeper would know of it for sure." Rocky Breeze explained. "But how, how are you going to bring all of these people up the mountain with you? It isn't exactly easy on foot." He asked, worried about extra work.
