Chapter 4 - Chapter 4.

On this day, an unpleasant incident awaited me — the electricity went out. I had to go out on an abandoned balcony and find a gas lamp among the old things. There was enough food and water to survive for a week or two. I was planning to create a weapon for my own safety. At night, I whittled a branch that I broke off in the yard when I went to get water. Several hours passed, and I worked hard on the sharp ends of the spear.

In the days that followed, I watched strange people from the window. Their behavior has changed: they twitched, screamed and attacked each other, although there was nothing left of them alive. Soon I noticed that they began to look terrible — their limbs were hanging off, and arms, legs and heads were lying on the road. Life circumstances forced me to turn to the Bible, which had been on the shelf for a long time. I carried the icon with me as my last hope, and miraculously escaped a terrible fate.

One morning, after waking up after a long time making weapons, I went back to the window. Now their bodies lay motionless on the road, slowly decomposing. This could have been my chance. I packed up the necessary things, wrapped myself up and left the apartment, as it turned out, forever.

I went out into the yard with the dog and smelled a terrible smell. The stench has increased since then, and I could barely hold back the urge to vomit as I continued on my way.

Where was I going? I had a doctor friend who worked in a private clinic. I noticed small gray holes on my arm, and maybe he could help. My hand itched, and disturbing suspicions arose in my head.

I didn't want to share the fate of the unfortunate ones whose limbs were lying everywhere. It took a long time, and I finally saw a friend's house. Is he alive? Maybe he has already become a victim?

Unfortunately, the connection and the Internet are gone. Strangely, the fog was thickening on my way.

I knocked on the window, and a few minutes later I saw the surprised face of a friend. He came down quickly and opened the door for me.

— What are you doing here? Come in!

I was happily surprised to meet a living person. He invited me into the house and offered me a snack. He asked me how I managed to survive in this horror.

"I have a suspicion," he said, "that it will be safer in the villages. There are fewer people there.

I nodded, listening. He continued:

— At the beginning of the epidemic, when there was still a connection, my relatives and I often talked. Everything was calm in their small village — there was no virus. I was going to the village, and then you came.

I noticed several large bags of things.

"But will you come with me?" - he asked.

"I'll go where I can go," I replied jokingly, finishing my tea with dried bread.

— We need to leave today, while there is a lull. We will manage to drive several tens of kilometers. Let's finish our meal and go.
