Chapter 37 - Chapter 7: The Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner had arrived faster than either Samuel or Tatiana anticipated. Set in the charming courtyard of a rustic restaurant, adorned with twinkling fairy lights and simple, elegant decorations, the air was filled with excitement. Friends and family had begun to gather, creating a lively buzz as they greeted one another, many meeting for the first time.

Tatiana arrived early, her energy contagious as always. She flitted between the guests, making sure everyone felt welcome and ensuring that all the arrangements were in place. Wearing a sleek, casual dress with her hair cascading in loose waves, she was radiant. To her, the rehearsal dinner wasn't just a formality—it was an opportunity to celebrate the people who meant the most to her and Samuel.

Samuel, in contrast, arrived a little later, his thoughts still tangled with the weight of the previous night's conversation. Though Tatiana had reassured him, he couldn't completely shake the nerves that came with such a monumental occasion. But as he walked into the courtyard and saw Tatiana laughing and talking with their guests, the sight of her immediately brought a calm to his heart. She was his anchor, and knowing she was by his side made all the difference.

Tatiana spotted him and waved him over with an enthusiastic grin. "There you are! I was starting to think you got lost," she teased, wrapping her arms around him.

"Not a chance," Samuel replied, kissing her cheek. "Everything looks perfect."

"It does, doesn't it?" Tatiana beamed, stepping back to admire the setup. "I think everyone's having a good time. Liam's over there with Maya and Clara, and your parents are talking to mine. It's all coming together!"

Samuel scanned the courtyard and caught sight of Liam engaged in a lively conversation with Tatiana's best friends, Maya and Clara. They seemed to be getting along well, much to Samuel's relief. Liam had been a constant in Samuel's life since university, and seeing him fit seamlessly into this new chapter of his life made him feel like everything was falling into place.

As the evening unfolded, the mood grew warmer, filled with laughter, toasts, and shared memories. Tatiana's parents stood to offer a few words, reminiscing about their daughter's spirited nature, her determination, and how they had known from the moment she met Samuel that something special was blossoming between them.

"I remember the day she came home," her father began, smiling at the memory. "She told us about this quiet, thoughtful boy she met on campus. And from the way she spoke about him, we knew it was serious. Tatiana's always been someone who knows what she wants, and Samuel, you're exactly what she needed—her calm in the storm."

The guests laughed, nodding in agreement, while Tatiana blushed slightly at her father's heartfelt words. Samuel, too, felt a swell of emotion, realizing just how deeply connected they had become to one another's families.

Next, it was Samuel's mother's turn to speak. She stood, her eyes brimming with pride, and looked at her son with a smile that only a mother could give. "Samuel has always been the type to think things through, sometimes too much," she said, eliciting a chuckle from the crowd. "But when it came to Tatiana, there was no hesitation. He told us about her with such certainty, and from that moment, we knew she was the one who had opened his heart."

Tatiana squeezed Samuel's hand under the table, her eyes glistening with emotion. The words of their families were more than just toasts—they were affirmations of the love and partnership they had built, piece by piece.

As dinner continued, Tatiana took a moment to pull Samuel aside. They stood together, just out of earshot from the rest of the crowd, watching their friends and family laughing and bonding.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice soft, searching his face for any lingering doubts.

Samuel nodded. "I am. I think... I think I needed this," he admitted, his gaze sweeping across the courtyard. "Seeing everyone here, knowing how much they support us—it makes everything feel real."

Tatiana smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. "It is real. Tomorrow, we'll be married, and we'll have all these amazing people standing by our side."

"I know," Samuel murmured. "And I couldn't be more grateful. For all of it—for you."

Tatiana tilted her head up to look at him, her eyes full of love and understanding. "You're not alone in this, Samuel. We're in this together. Whatever happens, we'll face it side by side."

He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close as the lights twinkled overhead. In that moment, the noise of the rehearsal dinner faded into the background, and all Samuel could feel was the warmth of Tatiana's presence and the certainty that tomorrow, they would take the next step together.

When they returned to the table, they were met with clinking glasses and shouts of "Kiss! Kiss!" from their guests. Tatiana laughed, rolling her eyes playfully as she leaned in to give Samuel a sweet kiss, to the delight of their friends and family.

As the night drew to a close, the rehearsal dinner became a cherished memory for both Samuel and Tatiana—a reminder of the love and support surrounding them, and a promise that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.

Tomorrow was the big day, but tonight, they simply savored the moment.
