Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: No Signal

Taking Ryoko and Hinami to Anteiku, Lucian quickly said goodbye, ignoring their reluctance to separation

Then he went on his way, returning to the comfortable surroundings of the infinite castle.

He had to admit that although it was dizzying at first, once he got used to the infinite castle it was more than comfortable.

A house that adapts to the needs of its owners.

This is a nice way of describing the infinite castle, a house that has as many rooms as Lucian wants and they change position according to the owner's whims.

Feeling like relaxing, he soon sat down to have some tea and listen to Nakime playing her biwa.

"I see your skill is as good as ever." Lucian complimented, as he felt the warmth of the tea spreading throughout his body, relaxing all his muscles.

'Cinnamon tea is very good. Now get on with the planning.'

Originally he hadn't intended to continue thinking about these things for the time being, but during that day's events he had an idea.

Planting a familiar spy in Mado's corpse, enabling him to infiltrate the CCG at a moment's notice.

What he had seen while he was on top of the building with Ryoko and Hinami was the collection of Mado's body.

He didn't care about disposing of Mado's body, no matter what the end of that corpse would be, once inside the CCG, the infiltration would be complete.

A would be the most perfect form of infiltration - one in which it isn't even necessary to get close to the target.

'Once the familiar is at the base of the CCG, I'll have it split up and spread throughout the building, thus improving stealth and providing a wider search range.'

But this would undoubtedly be a very slow method, considering that commands and power would have to be delivered "wirelessly".

As everyone knows, wireless connections are slower than wired connections.

"In addition to the fact that I will need to use 'signal repeaters' to amplify and retransmit the signal, guaranteeing the necessary range for the familiar to operate."

It has been said before that familiars cannot live if they are too far away from the one who raised them, of course, this depends on many factors:

The strength of the one who raised the familiar;

The strength, energy and time that went into raising the familiars in question;

The structure of the familiar, yes, it makes a total difference to how long a familiar can live. To begin with, a highly complex familiar naturally needs more resources to stay alive and therefore lasts less time.

Because the familiar lives only on what it has received from its creator, without the ability to feed itself and obtain nourishment as a complete life form could.

It is also possible to create a familiar that requires few resources while storing a large amount of them.

And it was exactly this type of familiar that Lucian created for this infiltration mission - a simple being that can't do much more than crawl around.

However, this simple being is capable of carrying a large amount of blood inside and then using it to divide itself.

But, unfortunately, its combat and regeneration power is infinitely close to zero, and it is probably incapable of defeating anything that is similar in size to a cat and can be killed with a stomp.

"So I must set up a network that can deliver energy to this familiar. I'll use other familiars only for this purpose - to relay the energy."

Would a direct attack be much quicker? Certainly, but it wouldn't be as much fun as this way, which, although relatively slow, would make the process much easier once completed.

It would also facilitate any future attempts to infiltrate large, fixed-based organizations.

"I wonder what their reaction will be when they find out that their base is flooded with enemies." Lucian scoffed slightly, thinking of the possible plague he would be unleashing on his enemies.

As Lucian laid out his plans, his thoughts were soon interrupted.

"What took you so long to come back? I've been waiting for you!" Mitsuri complained lightly as she approached Lucian.

"Something unexpected has come up." Lucian's voice contained a trace of apology.

"But what about you? Did you enjoy yourself?" he then asked.

"Yes! This modern technology is very good and I saw all kinds of food! From all over the world!" she replied, exclaiming in amazement as she threw herself onto Lucian's lap.

A smile appeared on Lucian's face when he saw Mitsuri's joy: "I'm glad you had a good time. How are the others?"

"Hmm... Kie was also very excited about the facilities brought by technology. Shinobu was interested in advances in medicine and chemistry, as well as ghoul biology. Daki was very interested in eating some ghoul or something like this, so the two of them dragged Kie along with them to attack a ghoul lair."

Listening to Mitsuri's explanation, Lucian felt a urge to laughing. Shinobu was in search of knowledge to quench her scientific spirit, while Daki was driven by her curiosity.

'And then they both dragged poor Kie along with them.'

"I can even imagine the scene hahaha." Lucian couldn't help but laugh as he imagined a comical scene in the best slice-of-life anime style.

... Although neither this world nor what they were going to do was something you'd find in a slice of life.

'Wait, am I in a slice of life in this moment?' This thought suddenly popped into Lucian's mind.

If that's what he's living, no matter what it is, it's technically a slice of life, right?

Putting this thought aside, he turned to Mitsuri and Nakime: "The kakuhou transplant is ready to be transplanted, do you want to be the first to receive a kagune?"

"We do!" x2

They answered, their excitement the same, although there was a great contrast in the tone of their words.

"It's actually a very simple process..." He took out two red spheres, "You just need to eat this sphere."

"So simple?" asked Mitsuri, simply popping the sphere into her mouth and swallowing.

Suddenly Lucian felt the urge of slapping his own forehead, and warned: "Initiating the fusion naturally is simple, but the fusion process can be quite painful: with bones breaking, muscles undergoing uncontrolled contraction and expansion, and of course, extra limbs being thrown out of the body."

"Shouldn't you say the warning before handing it over!?!" Mitsuri was exasperated to hear Lucian's description.

"And I was supposed to know that you'd just throw it in your mouth half a second after I delivered it?!" Lucian retorted, exposing Mitsuri's carelessness.

"Pfff~" In this situation even the always serious and silent Nakime couldn't hold in her laughter.
