We all walked towards the city excited for the day. Even Aaron, who was always quiet and calm, had some excitement in his steps.
We headed south to Raventhorn and saw several other students walking there as well, curious about the nearby city.
We all talked and more than once Orin and Araki asked me the same questions about how to sign up at the guild but I told them we would do it there.
As we got closer to the walls of the city I noticed a mage was watching over us. He was wearing a brown robe and was holding a wand with a gray crystal, an earth mage by the looks of it.
Not paying them much mind we entered the gate and everyone was excited. Several shops were lined up at the gate and many different food stalls and merchants were selling their wares to the noble students from the academy.
We walked past them while also having a look at some and I could feel the want from Orin and Zek for some good food.
"If we complete a quest today we can get something good later," I said and I could see their motivation boost.
As we walked I was happy to see several other races around the city. Beastmen, a few lizardfolk, and even an entire party of Half-orc adventurers walking to the gate. It was very different compared to the academy.
We continued down the streets and looked at shops when we came to a grand building.
It had 3 stories and was bigger than 2 houses put together. I saw a sign hanging above the door saying
I looked at everyone else, smiled and pushed the door open.
Inside I saw several tables with adventurers sitting around. The wooden walls were polished and decorated with paintings and weapons with a few torches with fire magic hanging on the walls.
On the wall, I saw a few boards with papers posted with quests.
A bar was in the far corner and was serving a few adventurers who seemed to be partying some beer.
Several doors led to private rooms so that private matters could be discussed.
I looked up and saw the balcony and some more rooms adventurers could rent instead of an inn.
I turned to the reception counter and thankfully it was currently empty.
We walked over and the receptionist waved and introduced herself "Hello, my name is Ella. What can I do for you all today?"
"they would like to sign up as adventurers., I said while pointing to the other.
She nodded but asked, Aree you already registered, sir?"
I nodded and handed her my guild card "Yes I am. If you don't mind could you also record me as a returning adventure here? I will be staying here for a while."
"understood please wait a moment for me to get the paperwork., she said and walked to the back
when she returned she handed out some documents to each of us and handed me back my guild card.
"do any of you need help with your information?" she asked
I turned to the others and they all shook their head
nodding I turned back and said "No thank Ella. I can handle it from here."
she smiled "Of course. please bring those back to me when you are done and I will give you your guild cards."
we thanked her and all sat down at a table but some things came as confusing to them.
Everyone filled out their basic information.
Ark was hesitant to sign this so I told him he didn't have to but he did participate in the conversations.
"What does it mean by class?" Orin asked
"Classes are your area of fighting. Depending on how you fight or what you can do you list different options."
Fighter: Someone who skillfully fights with melee weapons, typically swords or axes. like Orin
Barbarian/Berserker: similar to a fighter but relies more on brute strength and sheer stubbornness to win fights rather than skill.
Archer: someone who fights with a bow. like Araki
Wizard: a mage who studies magic like Ark and Jack
Sorcerer: someone who is born with magic or got it from a bloodline but is known for having trouble controlling it at a young age. like Ark
Warlock: someone who made a contract with another being who grants them magic power. (no Jack is not a Warlock. He is more like a beast tamer while a warlock got magic from someone else.) 'kind of like Aaron' Jack thinks to himself
Cleric/Healer: typically a priest who follows a gd and can use holy magic to heal injuries or harm demons and undead.
SpellBlade: a fighter who casts spells and uses weapons. like Jack
Arcane Archer: similar to an Archer but can infuse magic into their arrows or even use magic in place of arrows.
Paladin: similar to a Spellblade but uses Holy magic to harm undead and Demons instead of normal magic.
Monk: a hand-to-hand fighter who uses their opponent's movements against them and makes it hard to be hit. Like Ark
Pugilist: a fist fighter like a monk but uses more brute force and takes punches rather than dodging and diverting attacks.
Druid: mages who live among nature and communicate with animals and plants. They are very powerful and act more like forces of nature.
A misconception about druids is that they will never hard a forest. It is wrong as Druids act like nature itself and are ok with a forest fire every once in a while.
Rogue: a person who specializes in stealth and light hands. Great for infiltrating or taking people down quietly.
Beast Master: someone who trains beasts and has them fight. (similar to Jack and his spirits. The difference is that Jack's spirits can come back if killed in battle after some time.)
as I finished explaining everyone was staring at me
"...what?" I said
After a second Zek asked "Jack how do you know so much? I have met a lot of people before and none of them can do or know as much as you do. It's getting kinda creepy at times."
I laughed a bit and said "I can't deny that. Sorry, but I can't go into details but one of my contracts granted me knowledge I shouldn't have. Forbidden knowledge depending on who you ask. So on occasion, I may say something that won't make any sense or is something I said long before its time in the world."
I half lied. The weird knowledge I would have is just the scientific knowledge I have from my past life or what I read in [The Library].
Thanks to my weird brain and a higher level of education from there compared to here I accidently became considered a genius several times over the years.
Returning my attention to the group I noticed they all were confused so I elaborated a bit more.
"I have a contract where a spirit tells me things about magic and the world that I shouldn't know and I remember all of it allowing me to specialize in many things with no decline in strength."
Everyone just stared but all collectively decided it wasn't worth asking and continued to fill out the papers.
"What does it mean by Elemental Affinity?" Ark asked
Zek decided to take this one "Elemental Affinities are what kinds of magic you can use. There are 8 core elements Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Lightning, Light, Shodow and Arcane. Most people only have one core affinity but rarely they can have 2 like me."
"I do know there are other Affinities but I don't know what they are and I doubt the guild has a way to check from some of the more rare ones."
"It is possible for mages to gain an affinity with other elements but that is very difficult and rare."
"the 8 core elements also have divisions and merged affinities as well. My ice affinity is a division of water as ice is just frozen water."
"Merged affinities are rare but are what happens if you combine 2 core elements like Lava. Lava is created by taking rocks with earth magic and heating them with fire to the point it melts."
"Everyone has an affinity with at least 1 core element and usually a few divisions, but only have merges if they have both cores that make it. As for the other types of affinities, I don't know"
Zek sat back down and let Ark absorb that information.
"You forgot about the limit of affinities," I said absentmindedly as I was thinking about my affinities too.
"What limit?" Zek asked confused
Still not fully paying attention, I responded, "Humans are the only race who can learn every core element and its divisions and merges. All other races can learn a maximum of four or five core elements, other than Arcane that is, as that one is just mana manipulation."
Shocked Zek said "I have never heard of that! How do you know that?"
"An old scripture written by the goddess of magi-" I covered my mouth finally realizing what I was saying was the knowledge that I wasn't supposed to share.
Everyone stared in shock after hearing me say, 'Goddess'.
I looked around the room and thankfully no one else heard me.
I sighed and leaned back worried.
Zek hesitantly said, "I take it that was knowledge you got from your contract?"
I nodded as that wasn't a lie, I learned that from Brakos before my reincarnation.
"Yeah don't spread that around, please. If the church found out I know that kind of stuff I am a dead man." I asked the group
everyone was silent as they contemplated my plea.
After some thinking, Zek said "Before we agree to anything you need to answer one question. What did you mean by the goddess of magic?"
I sighed and, using my spiritual energy, created a soundproof barrier to the astonishment of the others, and began to explain.
"As you know, here in Primus, there are the 3 gods. Dwargo the Dwarf god who ascended from a primogenitor, Sol the Diving god worshiped by the church and Poisidon the god of the sea."
"What most people don't know is that there are more gods out there but are rarely seen or don't make their presence public."
Everyone stared in disbelief.
I realized I was saying more than I should have, but sharing this with others felt a lot better than keeping it a secret.
"I can't say more on the matter without putting us all at risk so please don't bring it up again," I said and lowered the barrier.
Everyone stared in shock and took a moment to think.
I did notice one of Aaron's eyes turn completely black, and I could feel the spirit inside him react to what I had just said.
I made a mental note of that and slowly managed to get everyone to forget the topic for now and focus on the guild sign-up sheet.
