I have no idea what I'm doing here if I'm not doing anything. This penthouse is too big for someone living alone. Yes, there are servants and guards here, but they seem soulless. Even their faces look like Khane's: flat and expressionless. Whenever I ask them anything, they always give short answers, which annoys me because I'm never satisfied with their responses.
I've sighed countless times. This place really bores me.
All I do is enjoy the meals in the morning, then do nothing until lunch and dinner.
I decided to ask the burly guard near the door. He's always there, never once have I seen him move—could he be a statue?
I don't think so; he breathes, and I've seen him move slightly.
I stopped right in front of him. Gathering my courage, I asked, "Sir, can I do something or just go for a walk?"
At first, the guard didn't seem to want to answer my question. I, already feeling dejected, turned around to leave. But before I took a step, the guard spoke, "You may do so as long as I am around you, ma'am."
I turned back, smiled, and replied, "Then accompany me for a walk. I want to see what's available in this penthouse."
Feeling happy, I walked down the long hallway to the elevator with the guard behind me. After the metal box moved down one floor, its doors opened again. I saw a gym there.
"Is this a gym? Can I use the equipment?" I asked the guard.
"You may use it, ma'am." Hearing such an answer, of course, I wouldn't miss the opportunity.
The guard showed me the changing room. I didn't know there were special workout clothes prepared for me. "Khane has everything, so this kind of thing is not hard for him. Yes, he can do anything with his power."
I continued to work out there. I saw that the equipment was rarely used. But there wasn't a speck of dust on anything, making me feel comfortable without needing to clean it first.
"This place is so comfortable, especially since I'm alone. I feel at ease moving my body."
I spent several hours there without realizing it. I thought that was enough for today; I had to return before Khane started looking for me.
With the guard, I returned upstairs and headed to my room to freshen up. Passing by the kitchen area, I smelled delicious aromas from the food the servants were cooking. I couldn't wait to see it. The scent was a blend of distinctive spices, stirring up my appetite.
I quickly finished my activities in the bathroom and ran to the kitchen. I saw the servants still busy with the ingredients. I decided to help them finish the cooking, but one of them stopped me.
"Ma'am, please don't come here. If you need anything, just tell us. We will prepare it for you." The servant seemed afraid of me being there.
"Hmm, I just wanted to help you finish the cooking. Is that not allowed?" I asked, even though I already knew their answer. I still have a stubborn head.
"No, ma'am. Your hands will become rough, and Mr. Khane will punish us if that happens. It's best if you wait in the dining room or another room."
I felt driven out of the area. Their words made me pout as I turned and headed to the lounge.
Sure enough, not long after I sat on the sofa, the food was ready on the dining table. They must have cooked it just for me.
I stepped into the dining room after one of the servants called me. When I sat down, I didn't see Khane's usual plate across from mine.
"Guard, where is Mr. Khane? Why hasn't he come here today?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Mr. Khane is busy with his business, ma'am. There are other matters he needs to handle. He will return as soon as his business is finished." The same explanation I hear every time I ask.
Don't they have any other answers? Maybe Khane is with someone more important than me, or he's dealing with something serious. Or whatever it might be.
"Ma'am, please." A servant placed the dessert in front of me, its aroma enticing me from the beginning.
Oh my goodness... isn't this the soft cake I've always wanted to eat?
Without further ado, I devoured every dish the servants served. They were so skilled with food, always managing to please my palate.
After finishing everything, I decided to return to my room and relax there for a while.
***
After several days passed, I felt something strange was going on with Khane. He still hasn't shown up. Even though I can do and get anything, I wouldn't use any of it without its owner.
I spent the last two days reading in the library. Khane has a vast book collection. I liked it and had read several titles from the collection of novels and true stories. Right now, I was enjoying a glass of juice, placing the book on my lap.
"Hah... this story is about a murder. Why didn't I read the back cover first?" I muttered, annoyed with myself.
How could I not be?
I picked the wrong book title and ended up reading a scary mystery book. I put the glass on the table and walked to the shelf holding romance books. I like love stories because I'll never have a beautiful romance like in the books I read, so I can only imagine that the main character in the book is me.
After finding the right book, I returned to my seat. Just like before, I felt very comfortable. Though sometimes, I still thought about Khane's whereabouts.
Suddenly, I recalled the last words I said to him. I cursed myself for feeling guilty about that silly request. Yes, Khane must be angry with me because of that. He hasn't returned since.
I picked up my glass and turned the page with my other hand. Suddenly, I felt someone touch my shoulder, causing me to jump. My drink spilled on the book and my clothes.
"Oh my God! Why did you startle me?! Look, you—" My words stopped when I realized the man was Khane.
His gaze silenced me, and I began cleaning up everything without saying a word.
"What are you doing? Put all that down and clean yourself up!"
