"With a boyfriend like that, no wonder she thinks she can do whatever she wants," Captain Boomerang muttered under his breath, glancing over at Rick Flagg. "I mean, it's not fair to the rest of us, risking our lives while she gets special treatment. How about you disarm our bombs, too?"
Rick Flagg shot him a cold look. "I can't disarm the bombs, but I can trigger them. Want to give it a try?"
Boomerang rolled his eyes but said nothing further. He hadn't expected much, just wanted to vent his frustrations.
"The rain's getting heavier. Are we seriously just going to stand here watching them make out?" Boomerang grumbled.
"Shut it," Flagg snapped. "Wait here, I'll go."
With that, Rick Flagg marched over to where Su Sheng and Harley Quinn were still locked in a passionate kiss. The rain poured down harder, large droplets splashing against Flagg's face as he approached. The couple didn't seem to notice his presence.
Flagg cleared his throat. "Cough, cough."
No reaction.
He tried again. "Cough, cough!"
The two kissed even more intensely, oblivious to the world around them. Flagg's patience was wearing thin. He prepared to cough once more, but hesitated, unsure whether to speak up or continue coughing. The internal conflict threw him off, and in his distraction, he ended up actually choking. Water ran into his mouth, and he started coughing violently, patting his chest as he struggled for breath.
"Bah!" Harley finally pulled back, giving Su Sheng one last, exaggerated kiss before jumping off him. She looked at Flagg, coughing and sputtering in the rain, and burst into laughter. "Think he's gonna choke to death?"
"Probably not," Su Sheng replied with a smirk. "Protagonists don't usually die from something like choking. And honestly, he doesn't look like the main character, does he?"
Harley cocked her head, examining Flagg with exaggerated seriousness. "Nah, definitely not!"
Flagg, still recovering, rolled his eyes. "We're getting ready to go. The mission isn't over yet," he said, directing his words more to Harley Quinn than Su Sheng, though he stole a glance at Su Sheng to gauge his reaction.
Flagg wasn't sure if Su Sheng's arrival meant Harley would leave the team, but Waller had been clear: if Harley wanted to go, he was to let her. The priority was finishing the mission, even without her.
"You coming?" Harley asked Su Sheng, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "It's going to be fun."
Su Sheng thought for a moment. "You go ahead."
Harley nodded, satisfied with his answer, though it wasn't clear whether he intended to join them later or not. Flagg took the cue and signaled for the rest of the squad to move out.
As the Suicide Squad departed, Su Sheng smiled at Harley. "How about we find a place to talk?"
"Sure, sure!" Harley agreed enthusiastically, grabbing Su Sheng's arm and leading him toward a nearby building.
The building was empty, abandoned. Harley wandered around, looking at everything with restless energy. Suddenly, she spotted something that caught her attention.
"Hey, there's a bar over here!" she called out. "Wanna check it out?"
Su Sheng chuckled. "Why not?"
They made their way to the bar. The place was deserted, save for the dusty bottles lining the shelves. Harley skipped behind the counter, her long legs making quick work of the space as she scoured the shelves for something drinkable. Humming an offbeat tune, she swayed her head back and forth before finally grabbing a bottle.
She poured them each a drink, hopping up onto the counter with a grin. Su Sheng watched her with amusement, marveling at how different she was from the Harley Quinn he'd first known. Once, she'd faded into the background, but now, she radiated a chaotic charm that was impossible to ignore.
"Cheers!" she said, holding up her glass.
"Cheers!" Su Sheng clinked his glass against hers, but before he could take a sip, Harley suddenly leaned over, grabbed his glass, and downed both their drinks in one go. Then, with a mischievous glint in her eye, she leaned in for a bold, fiery kiss.
Su Sheng felt a rush—whether from the alcohol or from her kiss, he wasn't sure. But it was intoxicating.
Harley smiled and slid off the counter, moving gracefully toward him. "So, darling," she purred, her fingers tracing his cheek. "Do you like me now?"
Su Sheng chuckled. "Quite the grand entrance."
Harley giggled, circling behind him and wrapping her arms around his shoulders, her hands playfully tapping his cheeks. "I knew it! I knew you'd come back for me. I knew you couldn't stay away."
She leaned back, lounging on his lap, her eyes shining with playful excitement. "I knew you'd come back," she repeated, laughing softly as she hooked her arms around his neck.
Su Sheng smiled but was still curious. "Earlier, when you jumped from the plane… did you see me? How did you know I'd be there?"
Harley shook her head, her ponytails bouncing. "I didn't see you, but I knew you'd come. You always do."
Su Sheng raised an eyebrow. "What if I hadn't shown up?"
Harley paused for a moment, her expression briefly serious before breaking into a wide grin. "Even if you didn't come right then, you would have come eventually. That's what matters. Whether I see it or not doesn't matter."
Su Sheng chuckled, intrigued by her unwavering confidence. "Honestly, I'm curious—what did I do to make you this devoted? I don't remember doing anything special."
Harley let out a giggle, her restless energy returning as she hopped up again and strolled over to a small stage at the back of the bar. She grabbed hold of a long steel pole, spinning around it with playful grace. Without answering his question, she began dancing, her movements fluid and hypnotic.
Su Sheng watched her, captivated by her enchanting and unpredictable performance.
