Though Lex Luthor's presence in this world was minimal, some fates were inevitable. As Superman's oldest nemesis, it was no surprise that they clashed. However, what was shocking was that Superman had actually killed Lex Luthor, hinting at a descent towards the iron-fisted rule reminiscent of the Injustice League.
The influence of LexCorp was vast, making it understandable that Superman's actions had caused a stir. The government couldn't ignore it, prompting the introduction of anti-alien legislation.
Not long after Su Sheng returned home, the doorbell rang.
Jesse opened the door to find Lucy Lane standing there in her military uniform. She nodded at Jesse before heading towards Su Sheng, who was watching the news about Superman in the living room. Lucy had come from Metropolis, feeling that she should report to Su Sheng first. However, as she stood before him, she was at a loss for words. Whether it was about Superman, the anti-alien proposal, or her new role in the DEO, it all seemed irrelevant to Su Sheng.
"Tell me about Metropolis and Superman," Su Sheng prompted.
Lucy let out a sigh of relief and began recounting the events of the past 11 days. Superman had been crossing lines, killing several criminals and even engaging in direct confrontations with the police and military. Although he hadn't outright opposed the government, he had started disregarding their policies, intervening in international conflicts. Countries and militant groups were being forced to cease their wars under Superman's threat. As the news on TV showed, Superman had obliterated a terrorist group after they resisted him.
Public opinion on Superman had become divided, and the atmosphere in Metropolis was tense.
"Superman is openly against the anti-alien proposal," Lucy continued, her tone tinged with disbelief. "He thinks the government's approach is useless, that only force can make these aliens follow the rules. He's made himself the god of Earth."
"Lois's death hit him hard."
Lucy hesitated before adding, "There's something else... I don't know if it's true, but I've heard he might be trying to ally with Astra and the others."
An alliance? That's exactly what Su Sheng wanted to hear. Although the world hadn't seen other Justice League members emerge, a coalition with the Kryptonians could form an alternate version of the Injustice League. If Superman truly allied with Astra and the other Fort Rozz escapees, along with other hidden aliens, they could pose a threat on par with the Injustice League.
"Do you have any suggestions?" Lucy asked.
If things spiraled out of control, Su Sheng might be the only one capable of stopping Superman.
"Suggestions? Just focus on developing the DEO," Su Sheng replied with a chuckle.
"Alright... I'll head back to the DEO, then," Lucy said, realizing Su Sheng wasn't interested in pursuing the matter further. She turned and left.
After Lucy departed, Su Sheng spent some time at Rhodes Technologies, checking on their research progress on Kryptonians and Kryptonite. Once the workday ended, he headed to CatCo Worldwide Media to pick up Kara Danvers.
As employees streamed out of the building, Su Sheng sat leisurely on a nearby flower bed, waiting for Kara.
"Hello."
A woman in a tight dress approached him, her tone tentative. "Are you Kara Danvers' boyfriend?"
"Yes," Su Sheng answered casually.
"I'm her new colleague, Siobhan Smythe," she introduced herself with a smile, extending her hand.
"Hello," Su Sheng replied, shaking her hand. The name felt familiar. As their hands parted, he noticed Siobhan's fingers lightly graze his palm—subtle, almost as if it were accidental, but unmistakably deliberate.
Intriguing.
Su Sheng squinted at Siobhan, who continued smiling innocently. "You're new? What's your role?"
"I'm working alongside Kara, but since I just started, I'm mostly assisting her. Hopefully, I can get the hang of things soon." Siobhan flipped her hair back before adding, as if recalling something, "Oh, by the way, Kara might be held up by Ms. Grant, so she might not be out for a while."
"I heard it's because she's been chatting with her male colleagues a lot at work, so..." Siobhan's voice subtly emphasized the phrase "male colleagues," as if planting seeds of doubt. Realizing the implications, she quickly added, "But I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Kara's a great person."
Her explanation only made things seem more suspicious.
Su Sheng had figured out her identity. Siobhan Smythe. The new recruit brought in by Cat Grant, who immediately started vying for power. In the TV series, she had repeatedly framed Kara, tried to sabotage her relationship with Winn, and even sought to drive her away. Eventually, her schemes led to the awakening of her inherited ability, transforming her into the Silver Banshee.
The Silver Banshee, much like the Black Siren, could unleash devastating sonic screams—a family curse that drove her to uncontrollable anger, only quelled by eliminating the source of her rage. In the show, she and Livewire teamed up, causing considerable trouble for Kara.
Kara hadn't mentioned getting a new colleague yesterday, so this must be Siobhan's first day at work. On her first day, she had already gathered information about Kara, learned who her boyfriend was, and made a move to introduce herself. Siobhan was clearly no ordinary woman.
Clever, manipulative, and willing to do whatever it took.
She reminded Su Sheng of Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress from Earth One.
"It seems there's going to be some new entertainment," Su Sheng mused with a chuckle. "I trust Kara."
"Oh, I didn't mean anything by it," Siobhan quickly reassured, her voice filled with sincerity. "I just didn't want you to misunderstand Kara. She really is a great person. I'll leave you alone now."
As Siobhan turned to leave, her foot suddenly twisted on the ground.
With a gasp, she stumbled right into Su Sheng's arms. At that exact moment, Kara emerged from the building, catching sight of the two in an apparent embrace.
