Boom!
Zod's fist swung towards Su Sheng, who met it head-on with his own. The collision of their fists created a shockwave that caused the ground beneath them to sink by several centimeters.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The immense power contained within their steel-like bodies was on full display. Each impact sent Zod flying back or forced Su Sheng to retreat, their battle transitioning from the air to the ground with such speed that it was difficult for anyone to keep up.
Of the eleven Kryptonians Zod had brought with him, two were sent to Superman's mother to find the Codex, two were tasked with starting the World Engine, and two had their necks snapped by Su Sheng. With Fiora missing, only three remained to aid Zod—not counting Zod himself—and none of these three were warriors! Despite their best efforts to help, they either found themselves being struck down by Su Sheng's punches or hit by his heat vision.
"Go kill them all!" Zod roared, pointing towards the human camp. Instantly, the three remaining Kryptonians rushed towards it. Zod frowned as Su Sheng remained indifferent to their departure.
Did he really not care about the fate of his own kind?
Boom!
Su Sheng delivered a powerful punch, sending Zod flying. Before Zod could recover, Su Sheng caught him by the ankle mid-air and slammed him into the ground with tremendous force. Without pause, Su Sheng lifted him and hurled him into the sky.
With a powerful push off the ground, Su Sheng launched himself into the air after Zod.
Boom!
The sound of their battle echoed through the sky as Su Sheng closed the distance and struck Zod again. The force of each hit caused Zod, who was struggling to regain control, to ascend even higher into the atmosphere.
Each time Zod attempted to stabilize himself, Su Sheng would strike again, keeping him airborne like a shuttlecock.
Their figures ascended higher and higher into the sky.
Boom!
They pierced through the clouds, and Su Sheng unleashed a blast of heat vision.
"Ahhh!" Zod screamed in agony as the ray struck him, sending him hurtling out of the atmosphere like a deflating balloon.
Su Sheng hovered in the air, waiting patiently. Minutes later, a searing light plummeted from the sky.
It was Zod, releasing his own heat vision.
Su Sheng countered with his own beam.
Boom!
The collision of their rays caused Zod's falling form to vibrate violently as the two beams locked in a stalemate.
Zzzt! Zzzt!
The rays clashed and canceled each other out.
Unlimited stacking, double!
Suddenly, the power of Su Sheng's beam intensified, overwhelming Zod's. The size and intensity of the beams shifted dramatically, with Su Sheng's beam quickly gaining the upper hand.
No amount of effort could close the widening gap. Su Sheng's beam completely overpowered Zod's, pushing it back with relentless force. Finally, there was a loud crack.
The beam struck Zod's head, causing him to groan in pain. A burst of white smoke billowed from his head as he plummeted weakly from the sky.
Su Sheng rushed over and stepped on Zod's back, riding him down like a surfer.
The descent accelerated.
The wind howled in Su Sheng's ears.
He looked down, watching as the buildings on the ground grew larger and the skyline of the city came into view.
Metropolis?
It seemed there had been a slight deviation in their trajectory during the fight.
At the center of Metropolis stood a massive black machine, towering at least thirty-four stories high. Four slender tentacles anchored it to the ground, while a blue beam of light shot from the center, burrowing deep into the Earth. On the other side of the planet, an identical device mirrored the same energy output, the two forces connecting as they began to transform Earth's environment.
These were the World Engines, powered by a device known as the Phantom Engine. A special magnetic field surrounded the machines, causing chaos in the city as people fled in panic. Cars were sucked into the air, caught in the pull of the World Engine.
Several fighter jets approached from a distance, diving straight towards the World Engine in a suicide mission to destroy it. But the jets failed before they could even get close; the magnetic field caused them to crash into the debris around the World Engine, exploding on impact.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Flames erupted, and the jets were reduced to wreckage in an instant. Pilots, still aflame, fell from the sky.
"If the fire doesn't kill them, the fall will. These guys are really unlucky," Su Sheng muttered, showing no intention of saving them. He focused on Zod, who was still unconscious, and tried to steer their descent towards the World Engine.
"Three, two, one!" Su Sheng counted down. At the exact moment he finished, Zod's body collided with the World Engine, smashing through it with a deafening crash.
Riding Zod, Su Sheng tore through the World Engine from top to bottom.
The blue beam of light suddenly vanished.
Explosions erupted overhead as Su Sheng landed safely beneath the remains of the World Engine.
"Huh? Even more unlucky ones?"
Su Sheng noticed another figure under Zod—it was one of the two Kryptonians who had been tasked with starting the World Engine.
"Bad luck for you. Let me put you out of your misery."
Su Sheng raised his foot and kicked Zod aside, then grabbed the Kryptonian's head with both hands and twisted it sharply.
Click!
The Kryptonian's neck snapped instantly.
"Ballistic!"
Su Sheng called out, and moments later, a streak of yellow lightning appeared.
Ballistic, dressed in a red uniform, stood before Su Sheng.
"Take this back," Su Sheng ordered, pointing to the Kryptonian's body. In the blink of an eye, Ballistic vanished, taking the body with him.
While airborne, Su Sheng had heard the sound of the Disciple landing at the military base. Superman's super hearing truly was remarkable!
Turning around, Su Sheng grabbed Zod by the collar, intending to drag him back. But before he could move, a figure appeared in front of him.
It was Fiora—the one who had disappeared earlier!
