Synopsis

Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Jacob slowly opened his eyes, feeling like a truck had run over his head. He blinked a few times, trying to figure out where he was. The room was white and boring, and it didn't look familiar at all.

He sat up slowly, and his head started to hurt even more. Suddenly, a bunch of memories popped into his head. It was like watching a movie about his own life, but he was in the movie! He realized he was in a different world, living a different life. His name was Jacob Wick, and he was part of the Wick family. But this wasn't his family. They didn't care about him, except for his sister.

She loved him in a strange way, but she didn't understand boundaries. She would always want to spend time with him, even when he was busy. It was like she couldn't see that he needed space. His parents didn't help either. They always took his sister's side.

Jacob tried to make friends, but his sister would ruin everything. She'd ask his friends to do stuff for her, and they'd get so annoyed that they'd stop being friends with him. His parents didn't care. They always blamed him.

Jacob felt really lonely and sad. He wanted to run away and never come back. But he couldn't. He had no money and still had to finish school. He was stuck.

He looked down at his hands. He was younger. Much younger. He was still in school. Great. Just great. How was he going to survive this? Jacob's eyes widened as a voice echoed in his mind.

[Ding! Happy Life System Activated]

It was like someone had whispered right into his ear, but there was no one in the room. A shiver ran down his spine.

"What the heck?" he muttered, looking around nervously. Then, the voice spoke again

[Host, just sit back and watch how this system makes you the happiest person in the world.]

Jacob was confused. "What do you do?" he asked the voice, hoping it would answer.

"[Host, as I said, just watch. But as a gift, you will receive 50% of the shares of the Phillips Group. The paperwork will be sent to you within 24 hours]

Jacob's jaw dropped. The Phillips Group was a huge company worth billions. Fifty percent? He would be a billionaire! His heart pounded with excitement. "What? Are you serious?" he shouted.

[Host, this is just the beginning. This servant of yours will make you the happiest person in the world]

A warm feeling spread through Jacob as he realized his life was about to change completely. He thanked the mysterious voice, feeling a sense of gratitude he hadn't experienced in a long time.

All he had to do now was wait a few months until he turned eighteen and he could leave this place forever.

Jacob pulled himself out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom. The cold water on his face did little to clear the fogginess in his head. As he looked in the mirror, he saw the reflection of a teenager, probably a year or two younger than him.

After getting dressed, he made his way downstairs. The smell of bacon and eggs filled the air. His sister, a small, energetic bundle of chaos, was already at the table, picking at her food. She looked like a rabbit with a carrot allergy, separating the vegetables from everything else on her plate.

Jacob sat down across from her, trying to ignore the way she was eating. She was a spoiled brat, but she had a strange way of showing affection. It was like she did not know any boundaries at all, always wanting his attention even if he was busy with something else. His parents, in their infinite wisdom, had turned her into a little princess.

He thought about how different his life would be if his parents would just stand up to her. She was still a child, but her behavior was out of control. It was like they were scared of her or something.

His mom walked into the kitchen, a forced smile on her face. "We're going out to eat today," she announced.

Jacob was surprised. Usually, he was left to take care of the house when they went out. "I can stay home and look after the house," he replied, trying to sound casual.

His mom's smile faltered. "No, you're coming with us," she said, looking a bit troubled.

His sister squealed with delight. "Yay! Big brother is coming too!" she shouted, jumping up and down in her chair.

Jacob didn't want to go, but he knew it was pointless to argue. His mom seemed determined, and he could already imagine the chaos his sister would create. He sighed and nodded.

Something was definitely off. His mother's strange behavior was all very unusual. As he finished his breakfast, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

As he finished his food, Jacob told his mother, "I will be going out with friends today. I'll be back by the time we go for dinner outside." His mother simply said, "Yeah, okay," and continued eating her breakfast. She was the type who never cared where he was going, never asking any questions.

Jacob knew he had no friends to hang out with. This was just an excuse to escape the suffocating atmosphere of his home. He needed time alone to process everything that was happening and to figure out his next move. More importantly, he had to contact the system about the paperwork for the company shares. Because he fears that, just like in the novel, someone will directly bring paper over to his house and his family will find out, he tells the system that he will be the one to contact and others are not allowed to contact.

Just as he was about to turn and leave, his sister's voice cut through the air, "Play with me, brother!" Her large, pleading eyes were fixed on him.

Jacob sighed. He knew what would happen if he refused. His sister would throw a tantrum, and his parents would undoubtedly take her side. But he still replied, "I'm busy."

His mother's eyes snapped to him, her expression turning stern. "Play with your sister," she commanded.

Jacob felt a surge of anger. "No," he replied firmly.

His mother's face flushed with anger. "Don't be disrespectful," she snapped.

Jacob ignored her and walked towards the front door. He could hear his sister's cries as he left the house.

He took a deep breath and started walking. He needed to clear his head. And he needed to figure out what to do next.

As he walked down the street, a sense of freedom washed over him. He was finally away from his suffocating home environment. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, an old model that felt like a relic in his hand. He dialed a number.
