Chapter 2
Jacob's heart pounded in his chest as he dialed the number the system had provided. A mere three rings later, a voice answered. It was a woman's voice, smooth and cultured. "Hello, Mr. Wick. My name is Olivia Philips, CEO of the Phillips Group. I was expecting your call. Where would you like to sign the papers? I can bring them to you personally."
There was an urgency in her voice that caught Jacob off guard. It was as if she'd been waiting for this call with bated breath. Shaking off the odd feeling, he focused on the task at hand. "How about we meet at Tarra restaurant?" he suggested the location the first upscale place that came to mind.
"That would be perfect," Olivia replied, her tone relieved. "I'll be there in an hour. We can discuss the details over dinner."
Jacob hesitated for a moment, considering the implications of a free meal at such an expensive establishment. But then he dismissed the thought. The woman was the CEO of a billion-dollar company; she wouldn't be petty enough to charge him for a meal. He'd simply order water and leave as soon as the paperwork was signed.
"Sounds good," Jacob replied firmly, ending the call.
Jacob approached the imposing glass doors of the restaurant, his heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. Before he could reach for the handle, a uniformed security guard stepped in front of him, his expression a blend of concern and pity.
"Sir, I understand you're here for a meeting, but this restaurant caters to a high-end clientele. Your attire... might not be suitable for the environment," the guard said, his voice soft but firm. "Perhaps there's another place you could meet your acquaintance?"
Jacob was taken aback. He'd never been treated this way before. But as he looked down at his worn-out clothes, he couldn't deny the man's point. Just as he was about to explain the situation, a system notification echoed in his mind.
[Ding! The host was called poor by a security guard, which reduced the host's happiness. Do not worry, the host was rewarded with Tarra restaurant 100% ownership.]
Jacob blinked, trying to process the sudden influx of information. He'd become the owner of this very restaurant? A wave of disbelief washed over him. As if in confirmation, another notification chimed.
[Host happiness indeed dropped, but the host is so used to it that he didn't realize it.]
Before he could fully comprehend the situation, a portly man stormed towards them, his face flushed with anger. "What do you think you're doing? How dare you speak to a customer like that!" he bellowed, his voice echoing through the lobby.
The security guard looked taken aback, his posture shrinking.
"You're fired," the man declared, his tone final.
Jacob was caught off guard by the sudden escalation. He opened his mouth to defend the guard, who had only been trying to be helpful. "But sir, he was just—"
The man turned to Jacob, his expression softening. "I apologize for my employee's behavior. He should have handled the situation differently. You see, we want everyone to feel welcome here, regardless of their attire. Please, come in and enjoy your meal."
Jacob was left speechless. He had gone from being turned away to being welcomed as a valued customer in the span of a few minutes. As he stepped through the grand doors.
The portly man, who seemed to be in charge of the restaurant, ushered Jacob into a private dining room. Inside, a stunning woman in a sharp business suit sat at a table, a warm smile gracing her lips. She was undeniably beautiful, with an aura of confidence that commanded attention.
Olivia Philips, as Jacob now knew, gestured for him to take a seat across from her. As he sat down, she produced two documents and slid them across the table. One was the 50% share certificate for the Phillips Group, as promised. The other, however, was a surprise. It was a 100% ownership certificate for the restaurant.
Jacob's eyebrows shot up in confusion. Why would the CEO of a billion-dollar company be involved in handing over the restaurant? Before he could voice his query, Olivia explained, "The previous owner of this restaurant was a friend of mine. He's quite busy, so he asked me to handle the transfer."
He glanced at the documents once more, a strange sense of disbelief washing over him. Not wanting to waste time, he signed both papers and handed them to the system. And quickly tell the system to handle the legal and ownership transfer process followed.
With the business concluded Jacob was ready to make his exit. However, Olivia seemed to have other plans. "Please, stay and join me for dinner. Consider it a celebration of your new ventures," she insisted.
Reluctantly, Jacob agreed. After all, he had nothing better to do. As he looked at the extravagant dining room and the woman sitting across from him, he realized that his life had taken a drastic and unexpected turn.
Jacob finished his meal and stood up, ready to leave. Olivia nodded politely, her expression neutral. As he reached the door, it swung open, revealing the same portly man who had earlier scolded the security guard.
"Boss!" the man exclaimed, his face split into a wide grin. "It was a pleasure serving you. Please, let me know if you need anything at all."
Jacob was taken aback. "Boss?" he echoed, confusion evident in his voice.
"Of course, boss. You're the new owner," the man explained, a hint of pride in his voice.
The pieces of the puzzle were slowly falling into place. It was clear now why the man had been so protective of the security guard. He had known about the ownership change beforehand. As Jacob stepped out of the restaurant, he couldn't help but feel a surge of disbelief. In the span of a few hours, he had gone from being a struggling student to a billionaire business owner.
Meanwhile, inside the restaurant, Olivia watched Jacob's departure through a one-way glass. A serene expression settled on her face as she turned her attention to the translucent panel floating in mid-air.
