"I know you can hear me, Karis. There are questions I need answers to," Elder Aldrich said, his eyes fixed on Karis' back as the old man sat motionless in his wheelchair, gazing out the window.
Still, no response came.
With a furrowed brow, Elder Aldrich stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Karis. The man's eyes were vacant, staring into nothingness, unresponsive.
"Is this deliberate, Karis?" Aldrich asked with a frown. "I understand we confined you here almost three years ago, not just for your recklessness, but for the wild things you said—nonsense, as most would call it. But there's a reason I'm here now. I'm offering you the benefit of the doubt."
Karis didn't so much as blink.
Elder Aldrich studied Karis' face for any flicker of recognition. Still nothing.
