Naia hummed a single clear note. Her staff pulsed with cerulean energy as she stepped forward from her defensive position. The soldier's barriers had crept close - too close. But that would work to her advantage.
The enemy's energy weapons continued striking her barrier, each impact sending ripples through the stabilized space. Their fire slowed and lost velocity as her harmonic shield absorbed it. More bolts struck her and her field flickered from the stress.
But the Navigator didn't stop. She took another step. The squad's Engineer and Tech had their eyes wide with confusion and fear as the woman seemed to be breaking formation.
"The relay is lost. Time to move."
The squad leader's voice carried certainty as power built. Naia reached out with fingers spread. A pattern emerged in the thickened air, drawn in lines of frozen cerulean light. Each small step forward carved a new piece of the design.
