The corridor opened into a vast chamber. Theia's camera caught rows of vertical tanks, their contents obscured by clouded preservation fluid. Her hands clenched tight with flares of oily orange as she approached.
Unlike the specimens above, these cylindrical tanks held human forms - women that were identical in every detail. Their faces were peaceful in their artificial sleep.
'Copies of each other.'
The thought came unbidden. Her throat tightened as she studied their features. Not the crude hybrids she'd already fought - these 'augmentations' looked almost elegant. Metallic components were merged with pale flesh in smooth lines.
The initial scans showed very advanced technology within their forms. These weren't failed experiments.
'Production models. They would have been their next set of forces.'
