CHAPTER THREE
The account swindling
Ann agreed with Jason's idea to move the money from the joint account to her personal account.
Since then, Jason started finding means to get money from Ann trickishly. Day after day, he either complains about his account having issues hence his inability to make business transactions or lying about one of his family members being sick and hospitalised knowing that Ann is kindhearted and loves him dearly so will give him some funds as her support to his family. When the burden becomes much on Ann, she starts to complain about his daily excuses and how her account is running dry. Ann's friend had always tell her to be careful with the way she entrust her things into his hands. She doesn't trust Jason and will always tell Ann that he doesn't deserve her trust but Ann would not listen, thinking that her friend is being ruled by jealousy. Seeing that her friend is trying to make her see reasons why she should not trust him, Jason frame up lies against her so that Ann will kick her out of her life. A certain day, Ann's friend came to visit her but Ann wasn't at home. Jason threatens her to stay clear of his way or else , be ready to face what she would live to regret. She left and told Ann but because of the much trust Ann had for her lover, she confronted him if her friend was telling the truth. Jason sat Ann down, telling her that her friend is not good for her. He convinced her that her friend is more of an enemy to her than a friend. Claiming that her friend tried seducing him when she came around but he didn't fall to her tricks. Ann became so angry and headed straight to her friend's house that evening to confront her of what happened. Immediately her friend opened the door for her, she landed a resounding slap on her face without even waiting to hear her friends side of the story. She warned her friend to stay clear of her way and her relationship. Jason was so happy that he has finally succeeded in tearing their friendship apart as he ther will be no one to be advicing Ann against him again. As he saw that Ann had started developing trust issues on him, he arranged for his kidnap. Ann was contacted by the kidnappers of which they demanded a ransom of ten million Dollars in exchange for his life. This situation throws Ann agape, she needs to save her love and the father of her unborn child. But the ten million dollars is the only money she has left. Her life depends on it yet, she can't stand to lose the father of her unborn child to the cold hands of death. She paid the ransom with the belief that once her lover is out of the kidnappers' den, they can struggle together for a better life. On reaching home after dropping the ransom happily waiting for the return of her lover, she got a text from a new number.
"Thank you Ann for being the solution to my problems. I'm sorry but I never loved you. Wishing you the best in life and safe delivery" the text came from her lover.
Ann cried bitterly cursing herself for her actions "Ah, Jason have killed me! Ann you're so stupid and foolish. How can I be this naive and so blind to have read the hand writings on the wall that Jason is a scammer? Oh, Forgive me my friend, I'm so sorry for breaking our friendship without knowing that all you were doing was for my own good. Oh, it's all my fault! I trust people too much! Jason you must surely pay for this thing you've done for me" Ann became frustrated and devastated, not knowing how to start life all over again from scratch. Her fiance Greg wouldn't want to have anything to do with her.
Ann's life crumbled. She lost her job due to inability to keep up to task. She went back to her father's house but her parents would not accept her with an illegitimate pregnancy because that is against their religion. She needs to find a means of survival. Ann was rendered homeless with her pregnancy. Her landlord has given her 2 months ultimatum to vacate his house if she doesn't renew her rent.
Where will she go? Her friend cannot accept her back again. Greg would have been the only person that can help her out but knowing the damage she has caused him, her conscience wouldn't allow her to do that. That was not the life she planned for herself. Had she known that her secret lover only came to destroy her life, she would have been careful. The deed has been done already and the only option she has left is to amend her way. She engaged in menial jobs to get her daily feeding.
When her delivery time reached, Ann gave birth to a male child. As life was so cruel to her, she wrapped the baby in a napkin, put him inside a carton and dropped him at one of the villager's doorposts. She left the community to a foreign land to start a new life.
To find relief from the heartbreak Ann has passed him, Greg decided to withdraw all funds from the joint account since there is no future for him and Ann again. Going to the bank to withdraw the funds, The banker told him that the account has been emptied. This news made Greg lost in thoughts.
He didn't question the bankers because he knows that Ann is the only person who could have done that. " Ah, what did I ever do to deserve this, Ann has finished me!" He murmured as he entered his car to drive back. Being heartbroken, Greg was just driving without following the driving rules and he ran into a trailer where he was rushed to the hospital.
