Luca woke up the following day, he stood and checked his flank, the sore muscles were all healed.
Wow!
He thought, with a wondrous expression.
The previous night, when Luca wanted to take the medication, he had happily calculated his own dosage using his own measuring analysis. Luca was prescribed two pills for each dosage, but Luca had split a pill, taking only a quarter of the prescribed dose.
"That painkiller was something else tho" he muttered in wonder as he prepared for school.
Luca reached the school, sitting on his seat he noticed some guys muttering something and gawking in his direction.
What is with them
He thought, glancing at his side, the seat was empty, and the girl sitting beside Luca had yet to come.
Perhaps she was somewhere else chatting with other girls, Luca thought, after all, the girl was sort of the gregarious type.
Luca thought it didn't matter since the first lecture of the day had yet to start.
The first period was Biology, luca had readied his textbook and notebook on his desk, and the lecture was bound to start in the next five minutes, Luca favorite class was biology, he loves nature as a whole, all living things, part of Luca chores in the evening when he was alone was protecting a nest of bird in his back yard, a large tree was there but small snakes used to come to destroy the eggs, Luca would stand sentinel like a patrol in duty monitoring the eggs on safety, one day he had prod a small snake away from the nest, but the mother bird had come angrily just in the moment only to chase Luca around, almost pecking off his eyes, leaving poo on his head, as a souvenir except Luca washed it off immediately, perhaps it thought Luca was the enemy.
But the small snakes wouldn't back off from the nest, Luca had used a repellant one night, it worked but it seemed it also affected the mother bird, exhibiting signs of distress and confusion. She fluttered her wings erratically and hopped around the nest, unable to settle down. Her usual calm demeanor was replaced by frantic movements, and she frequently paused to shake her head as if trying to clear her senses. Despite her strong instinct to care for her eggs, the repellent's effects made it difficult for her to remain still and provide the necessary warmth after a while it settled down, Luca felt sorry for the Mother Bird but it couldn't be helped after all the eggs need protection than their mother.
Bare with it, oh mother bird, for the sake of perpetuation. Luca encouraged.
Luca had looked forward to the day when his class would go on a field trip to the zoo.
After a while, the biology teacher entered, the class stood to greet and sat down back, the lesson commenced but the girl beside Luca had yet to arrive
A few minutes later, the group of bullies, Mason and his henchmen marched into the class as if they were the ones handling the lecture.
"Hey, Mason and you" the Biology teacher, a bald man who spoke hoarsely as though he had a sore throat which he didn't, he had been teaching Luca's class for a couple of weeks, he managed to get his voice heard at Mason and his fellow, but they all pretended they didn't hear.
"Sir? What did you say?" one of the guys who had punched Luca the previous day asked, using his right hand to cup his ear in a gesture of exaggerated confusion.
Luca knew they were just pretending, no matter how hoarse Mr. Bibulus's voice was, he contorted his face in mild fury.
Mr. Bibulus who seemed to have grown tired of the lot released them with a wave of his hand and turned back to the board continuing his scribbling.
The gang made their way to their seat, the row in front of Luca.
In a moment, as Luca was scribbling away, a hand swept across Luca's desk, taking away his notebook, his pen fell in the action, Luca looked up, it was the scrawny guy of yesterday, he grinned at Luca with his crooked teeth, Luca looked at the teeth in disdained, his blood was boiling, feeling like he should punch the teeth, had Luca done that, all the teeth will fly out at once since the gums looked weak as if his teeth were vying for freedom, at least he would be able to survive on milk if he didn't have money for teeth transplant, but Luca cooled himself down, he wouldn't want to take the risk of suspension.
Luca knew they were trying to provoke him, he propped open his textbook and started ticking at the points being scribbled on the whiteboard by Mr. Bibulus.
As if fate had it in for him, Mr. Bibulus was looming over Luca, trying to check what he was doing, Luca who didn't expect this flinched immediately as he noticed the teacher figure.
Normally, Luca knew Mr. Bibulus always checked if his students' notes were complete at every lecture, but that was random, and about few people's notes were being checked every lecture, he never expected it to be his turn today, and the very moment his notebook was snatched.
"Mr. Moonfire, where is your notebook?" He asked with his hoarse voice.
Luca almost burst into laughter as Mr. Bibulus struggled to pronounce the Moon in his name loudly, it sounded like a cow moo... But Luca knew if the laughter got out, his suspension would be guaranteed, so he managed to hold it in.
"It's with him," Luca said pointing at the scrawny guy.
"Huh?" The guy turned back to Luca and made a scowl. "This is mine," he said pointing at the notebook on his desk.
Mr. Bibulus looked at it and glanced back at Luca with a questioning expression.
Luca stood, wanting to confirm the situation. It appeared the cover of the note had been torn off while the first page now read boldly the scrawny guy's name.
