"What?" Clarissa managed to say but it came out as a groan. "Maria?"
The lady would not stop crying. "Please Clarissa. I know I've wronged you, but I can't go to jail. Plus, I don't have any money!"
Clarissa rolled her eyes. Why did people have to be so stupid like this? She did warn her, didn't she!
"Maria, I won't start pointing fingers right now, but why did you have to let it get to this?" Clarissa said. "I have to dress and go to work, so, later. Let's talk then."
"I can't come to work today!" Maria cried.
"Oh, because you've found a better job? Wow, congrats." Clarissa did little to hide her sarcasm.
"Oh come on, now is not the time to be making jokes!--"
"--just get your ass ready to work and we'll see what we can do. Bye!" Clarissa hung up before she could add anything else.
