Emma had heard rumors of Roosevelt from a lot of sources and even clashed with him before she lost her company to her sister in her previous life. From what she could figure, he was a cold and ruthless man, who would do anything t get what he wanted.
Emma stopped paying attention to Roosevelt and walked into the diner party leaving her sister and mother to their devices. She found a little deserted corner and lingered not wanting to attract attention.
The party went in full swing as even from where she was Emma could hear the shrill laughter of her mother. Just as she was easing up, a voice called her from behind.
"Emma Taylor, we missed you at the meeting. I'm sure your investors will be glad to know you're skipping work."
Emma squared her shoulders as she felt anger at the comment but knew not to let it show.
"Apologies, you have me at a disadvantage." Emma said as she turned to meet the owner of the voice.
"I doubt that, Miss Taylor." Roosevelt said as he watched Emma's eyes light up in fury but her expression cold. It gave him an odd pleasure that he could get such a contrasting display from her.
"So what do you think.. My company will take the lead on the project, we are more than able to take on such a responsibility. Not that I'm doubting your… capabilities." Roosevelt said with a smirk.
Emma wanted to rip the smirk off Roosevelt's face but she remained calm as her mind flew about wondering what he was going on about.
Then it hit her, the meeting she ran out from was a joint meeting between the client and both her and Roosevelt's company to hash out the details of the collaboration, but It seems her absence has put her company on the back foot.
Looking at Roosevelt's smirk she wondered how much he would want to pay her for the information about the future that she has. She knew a lot of market information, some that even Roosevelt would kill to know.
Emma smiled confidently as she looked back at him and said. "Thank you for your concern, as biting as it is, the contract hasn't been finalized yet."
Roosevelt watched her change from a scared mouse to a smiling cheshire. For a moment he was smitten. "How cute."
"Sorry?" Emma asked wondering if she heard him correctly.
Roosevelt didn't respond. "If you take on work like you do with parties, I doubt either you or your company will head anywhere near success." He said with a steeled face before walking away. Annoyed at the whole situation, Emma walked towards the exit while quickly firing up a text to her assistant to email her all the details about the contract meeting she missed that afternoon.
Emma called a cab and headed home with another new goal in mind, crushing Roosevelt.
When she reached her home she found a silhouette at her door. Micheal suddenly peeled out from the shadows and approached Emma, he wrapped his hands around her and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. Emma struggled to get Micheal off her to the point of slamming his chest with her fist, but to no avail till finally he let go and gazed passionately into Emma's eyes,
"I'm sorry if I did anything you didn't like. The beating I took today, I deserve it, I should have come earlier to pick you up. Let me make it up to you."
Emma took in a deep breath to calm her mind down as she reached her hands into her purse. Micheal smirked at having won her over but when she lifted her face up, her eyes were filled with hatred.
"I want nothing to do with you." Emma said.
Micheal stood shocked that she was still angry with him, so he reached out to grab her only to meet a black long stick placed on his chest.
"Why don't you just die." Emma said and activated the taser placed on Micheal's chest. He stood electrocuted as his hair stood then slowly he fell onto his back unconscious.
Emma stepped into her apartment and dialed an ambulance as a precaution. She sighed as she brewed herself a cup of coffee and looked through her emails wanting to catch up on work as she was determined to make the most out of this second chance she got.
She got familiar with her company all over again and noticed some discrepancies. Shares were changing hands a little too quickly, and financial audits were getting sloppy.
These were things she didn't notice that made it easier for her elder sister to take over the company, but not this time, because this time, she's got them in her sights.
Emma was prepared to slowly wrestle back control of the company from the investors and she was going to need a lot of funds for that.
The easiest way to get that was to play the market. She opened her trading platform and logged in. The market was closed but she can still put in an order for when the market is opened.
She decided to stop diversifying her portfolio, sold more than half of her blue stick chips and searched for Cortana Pharmaceutical Inc.
It's a pump-and-dump stock that looked legit enough to fool a majority of investors. She bought most of the shares and will wait till it reaches breaking point then buy out.
She wondered why no one figured that the stock was a scam till the end.
After that, she pulled up a list of all her investors and the amount of shares they own in her company.
With her owning 31% of the company she had felt secure but after she sold 15% to keep Micheal's company from declaring bankruptcy. Her fate was sealed, all she could do was watch as her life's work was taken from her.
This time she promised herself that it would be different she would slowly buy back the shares of the company to make sure that she had more than 51% share, making her position unshakable.
Slowly a plan took shape as Emma worked tirelessly into the night. It was late the next morning when she woke up, after looking at the time she rushed to wash up and dressed in a black pantsuit and tide her hair into a ponytail before calling Olivia and telling her plan.
Olivia worked at a mid-sized law firm as an associate and for Emma's plan to work, she needed someone she could trust. Both Olivia and Emma met up at the company building, Olivia decked in a black pantsuit like Emma with a ponytail. Both wore sunglasses.
As they both walked to the doors of the building, the doorman opened the door for them as a chill climbed up his spine.
Their heels announced their arrival drawing attention from everyone as both women walked across the lobby at a semi-slow pace with matching steps.
They reached the elevator and found a few people waiting but a cough from Olivia made them give way. The elevator finally arrived, and both women stepped in. As another person wanted to jump in Olivia raised her shades and flared at the people stopping him mid-stride.
The elevator closed and Emma raised her clenched fist to Olivia for a fist bump which she reciprocated. "Boss ass bitch." Olivia said with a smile.
Emma returned the smile before inwardly sighing. Finally, those who sc
ammed and manipulated her in the past will pay, first she has to take care of business and next.. will be her family.
