Chapter 33 - Luan Xie's desperate gambit

He Shun paced the room, a frown creasing his forehead as he considered the risk. "We'll pretend we have Zhong Qing. Ye Rou is clearly desperate to get him back. We can use that desperation to our advantage. We'll demand the bracelet in exchange for Zhong Qing."

Luan Xie's eyes were cold and calculating, but doubt flickered behind them. "And if Ye Rou figures out we're bluffing? What if he realizes Zhong Qing isn't with us? We're gambling with more than just our lives here."

He Shun paused, his hand gripping the edge of a nearby table. "It's a high-risk play, but we don't have many options. Ye Rou's anger is a double-edged sword. If he finds out the truth, he'll come after us with everything he's got. But if he's desperate enough, he might just fall for the bluff."

Luan Xie stared at the floor, the uncertainty etched on his face. "This plan—it's risky. What if Ye Rou sees through our bluff? What if he realizes Zhong Qing isn't here and decides to take his anger out on us instead?"

He Shun's expression was a mask of cold determination, but inside, the turmoil was palpable. "I know. We're playing with fire here. The stakes are higher than ever. If Ye Rou finds out we're lying, he won't hesitate to destroy us. He's ruthless, and he'll be out for blood."

Luan Xie's voice was tinged with frustration. "And if that happens? What's our backup plan? We're walking a tightrope here, with no safety net."

He Shun paced the room, his mind racing through every possible scenario. "We need to be prepared for anything. If Ye Rou sees through our bluff, we need to have a way to escape, a way to defend ourselves. We need to anticipate his moves and be ready to act before he can retaliate."

Luan Xie's eyes were shadowed with doubt. "But what if we're wrong? What if we misjudge Ye Rou's desperation and he doesn't fall for the bluff? What if he's not willing to trade the bracelet for Zhong Qing, or worse, if he realizes we're lying and takes us both down?"

He Shun stopped pacing and turned to Luan Xie, the weight of the situation evident in his gaze. "I don't know. It's a gamble, and we're risking everything. But if we don't take this chance, we might lose everything anyway. Zhong Qing's betrayal has left us vulnerable, and Ye Rou's threat is too dangerous to ignore. We need the bracelet to move forward, and this is our best shot at getting it."

Luan Xie's shoulders slumped slightly, the enormity of their predicament sinking in. "I just wish we had more information, more certainty. Right now, we're making decisions in the dark, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst."

He Shun's voice softened, a rare glimpse of vulnerability breaking through his tough exterior. "I know. I wish things were different. But we don't have the luxury of time or certainty. We need to act now, even if it means stepping into the unknown."

Luan Xie nodded slowly, his expression a mix of resignation and resolve. "Alright. We'll set up the meeting and go through with the plan. But we need to stay sharp, be ready for anything. If Ye Rou turns on us, we need to be prepared to fight or flee."

He Shun's gaze met Luan Xie's with a shared understanding. "Yes. We'll do everything we can to make this work. But we have to be ready for the possibility that things might not go as planned. We need to stay alert and adaptable, no matter what happens."

As they prepared to put their plan into action, the tension between them was palpable. The weight of their decision pressed heavily on their shoulders, and the uncertainty of the outcome added to the emotional strain. Both men were acutely aware of the risks they were facing, but their resolve to see their plan through was unwavering. The stakes had never been higher, and the road ahead was fraught with danger and doubt.

Later that afternoon, Ye Rou arrived at the designated meeting spot. The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife as he strode into the room with an air of cold, calculated authority. His eyes, however, betrayed a flicker of desperation as he scanned the room, searching for any sign of Zhong Qing.

Luan Xie and He Shun were already there, waiting. Luan Xie stood near a table, his posture rigid and controlled, while He Shun leaned against the wall, his face a mask of guarded anxiety. The room was dimly lit, adding to the oppressive atmosphere.

Ye Rou's gaze locked onto Luan Xie. "Where is Zhong Qing?" His voice was clipped, barely containing his frustration.

Luan Xie met his gaze steadily, his own eyes icy and unreadable. "He's here, just as we agreed. But first, we need to discuss the terms."

Ye Rou's jaw tightened. "I don't have time for games. I want him back now."

He Shun stepped forward, his voice steady despite the tension. "You'll get him. But we need something in return first. We want the bracelet."

Ye Rou's eyes narrowed. "The bracelet? You're trying to play me."

Luan Xie's expression remained impassive. "It's simple. You give us the bracelet, and we give you Zhong Qing. That's the deal."

Ye Rou's face darkened with anger. "You think you can just make demands and expect me to comply? I know you're bluffing. Where is Zhong Qing?"

Luan Xie's voice was cold, his tone sharp. "We're not bluffing. We have Zhong Qing, but if you want him back, you'll have to meet our terms. Otherwise, you might never see him again."

Ye Rou's eyes flicked between Luan Xie and He Shun, his frustration palpable. "I don't have time for this. If you're lying, if you don't have Zhong Qing—"

"We do have him," Luan Xie interrupted, his voice firm. "But if you want him back, you'll need to play by our rules."

Ye Rou's fists clenched at his sides, his control slipping. "If you're lying, if you're playing me—"

He Shun cut in, his voice steady but urgent. "We're giving you a chance here. Take it or leave it. We're not going to negotiate further."

The room fell into a tense silence as Ye Rou weighed his options, his anger and desperation warring within him. His gaze hardened, and he took a deep breath, struggling to maintain his composure.

Finally, he spoke through gritted teeth. "Fine. I'll get the bracelet. But if you're lying, if you've set me up—"

"You'll get what you want," Luan Xie said, his voice resolute. "Just remember, if you don't come through, we won't hesitate to make sure he pays for it."

Ye Rou shot a final, intense look at Luan Xie before turning on his heel and leaving the room. The door slammed shut behind him, and the silence that followed was heavy with the anticipation of what was to come.

Luan Xie and He Shun exchanged a glance, their faces betraying the weight of the gamble they had just taken. The next few hours would determine the outcome of their plan, and they knew they had to be ready for whatever might come next.

He Shun's voice trembled with hesitation as he looked at He Shun, his eyes reflecting the weight of the situation. "What do we do now? The moment he hands over the bracelet, he's going to demand Zhong Qing back. My idea was really a mistake."

Luan Xie's expression was tense, his mind racing as he tried to find a solution. "We have to find Zhong Qing. It's the only way out of this mess."

He Shun shook his head, panic creeping into his voice. "But we don't have time, Xie-er! We're running out of options. What if we can't find him before Ye Rou figures out we're bluffing?"

He Shun ran a hand through his hair, feeling the weight of their situation pressing down on him. "But what other option do we have? Ye Rou will demand Zhong Qing the moment he hands over the bracelet. If we don't have him…"

He Shun paced the room, frustration and doubt warring on his face. "I can't believe we've ended up in this mess." His voice trembled slightly, revealing the cracks in his normally composed demeanor.

Luan Xie stepped closer, placing a reassuring hand on He Shun's shoulder. "Listen, we'll figure something out. We have to. There's got to be a way to buy us more time, or maybe even trick Ye Rou into thinking Zhong Qing is still under our control."

He Shun sighed, his gaze distant as he struggled to find a solution. "We're walking on a tightrope here, Xie-er. One wrong move, and everything could come crashing down. What if we can't find Zhong Qing in time? What if Ye Rou realizes we've been bluffing?"

Luan Xie tightened his grip on He Shun's shoulder, forcing him to meet his eyes. "We have to stay calm. If we panic, we'll make mistakes. We need to stay one step ahead of Ye Rou, just like we've been doing. Maybe we can use his own desperation against him."

He Shun swallowed hard, feeling the weight of Luan Xie's words. The tension in the room was thick, almost suffocating, as they both struggled to keep their fear at bay. They were treading dangerous waters, and one wrong move could cost them everything.

Luan Xie began pacing, his mind racing through the possibilities. "We need to stall Ye Rou, keep him on edge, make him think twice about every move he makes. If we can delay him long enough, maybe—just maybe—we can figure out where Zhong Qing is before he realizes we're bluffing."

"But how do we do that?" He Shun asked, following Luan Xie's movements with his eyes, hoping for some kind of reassurance.

"We'll make him think we're ready to negotiate," Luan Xie replied, his voice cold and calculated. "We tell him we're willing to trade Zhong Qing for the bracelet, but we'll insist on taking our time with the details. We'll demand proof that he has the bracelet before we show him anything. Every second we drag this out is a second closer to finding a solution."

He Shun nodded, but the anxiety gnawing at him only grew. "And if Ye Rou doesn't fall for it? If he realizes we're stalling?"

Luan Xie stopped pacing, turning to face He Shun with a steely resolve in his eyes. "Then we'll have to fight. We'll have to do whatever it takes to survive this, to keep the upper hand. But we can't let fear control us, He Shun. Not now."

He Shun took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. "Alright," he finally said, determination creeping into his voice. "Let's do this. We'll find a way, somehow."

Luan Xie gave a curt nod, his eyes burning with the intensity of someone who had nothing left to lose. "We don't have a choice."
