Chapter 6
Third POV
Leah was able to slowly recover from the incident and started staying back at her place, making sigh in relief until Luis started to crash on Bonnie's couch more now. He was a nuisance but a helpful one to her, her food was restocked with thrice of whatever she bought in a whole month. He began to hang out at Bonnie's place more, probably because he thought she needed the company. Maybe she did, but she didn't need to verbally admit it as he seemed to be able to read her just fine. The Shane Murder case was ruled as death by wild animals, utterly enraging to Luis. He refused to look at everyone in the station, he was cooped up in the morgue downstairs of the station.
Bonnie didn't have the luxury to do what she wanted, so she was stuck with my usual cases. She carefully traced the book in front of me. It was to pass the time before abruptly standing up from her seat and grabbing her coat, as I decided to check up on Leah. She didn't realize when Luis noticed her rushing out of the station and followed her back to Leah's apartment.
"Never thought I would end up unable to discover a clue from a corpse in my entire career." Bonnie gasped in surprise, as she was startled by his voice. She panted heavily, slowly recovering from the unexpected shock. She looked at him blankly, before she continued to walk ahead, and he followed with a lopsided grin. The grin turned into a defeated sigh; she rubbed his back in a comforting manner. He greatly appreciated it, as he let her continue without trying to annoy her in the process.
"That's not something you should say in public or at least outside of the station," Bonnie replied, as the people they passed down the streets looked at Luis with shared looks of disgust and fear. Luis smiled back at them. His mood seemed to have gotten better as he watched them squirm from mere eye contact with him.
"They can't handle seeing a dead body whether externally or internally. So, they should be considering themselves lucky that they are only hearing minor details from me." Luis increased his voice, making people around them avoid him even more, intentionally ignoring her warning to watch his tone around people. Bonnie wouldn't have cared but she wasn't liking the attention from the passersby, even if it was negative in nature.
"That's normal human behavior, you sociopath."
Bonnie retorted back.
"An intelligent and high functioning sociopath." He accepted the insult with glee as his grin was completely smug, finding it fun to annoy her even the more he spoke to her. Rubbing it in her face, which she responded by shoving him back a bit.
"Why must you taint Sherlock Holmes?" She asked him in a dry tone, as they crossed the street leading to Leah's new apartment since she was unable to handle staying at her family's home without the memories of her family constantly hunting her thoughts.
"You introduced me to it." He answered.
'Touche,' she thought. They reached the front door of Leah's apartment, knocking down on the door. The door opened on its own. Bonnie shared worried glances with Luis, before they called Leah's name out loud first before doing anything.
"Leah!!"
No response from her.
"She could have gone out to visit her parents' grave at the graveyard but that wouldn't explain the unlocked door." Luis uttered, as they entered the apartment. The first thing that came into view was the spacious living room. Their backs resting on the walls after they searched the apartment. Their paranoia was starting to get worse by the minute. The only thing breaking the silence was their heavy breathing made in an interval of fifteen seconds each spent resting themselves on the walls in the seemly empty apartment as they excluded themselves, since they didn't stay nor belong in the apartment. Bonnie refused to sit down until she was given actual permission by Leah only if present.
"What are you two doing in my apartment?"
Luis screamed in response, while Bonnie felt her heart almost giving up on her after the scare that they had gotten from the redhead.
"Miss Shane, please don't try to give us a heart attack in or young age." Luis said, their heavy breathing calming down as they had a brief eye contact with each other before facing an unimpressed Leah, who was silently removing her noise cancellation headphones and was more than ready to scold them for assuming the worst but didn't, as they had reasons to be scared and she was happy to see Bonnie be worried about her openly for one without guarding her emotions for one.
"Stop calling me by my last name." Leah informed Luis. The latter smiled and responded back. "Of course." Bonnie instantly knew where the conversation was heading, as Luis' smile changed to that of a mischievous grin, fulfilling her expectations as expected.
"Miss Shane."
'I knew it.' Bonnie excused herself from the living room, letting them fight it out in her absence while heading to the guest bathroom. She rinsed her hands and her face, looking at her image in the mirror.
Grrrr...
She heard it, but quickly dismissed it. She was sure that her mind was merely playing tricks on her mind. She relaxed her mind, looking around to make sure that it was a pigment of her imagination. The brunette heard no sounds again, lowering her guard down in the process.
'Not surprised.' She exited the bathroom, properly cleansing her hands with a towel before closing the door. She entered the living room, as Luis and Leah continued to argue with each other, not changing as Leah grew more annoyed and Luis was more smug than usual during the short time she wasn't supervising them. Hopefully, things get better around here in Lock city as peace doesn't last long here for only those the ones that have lived in the city for their entire lives would know why,
Either way, it didn't concern Bonnie, sipping the fresh warm milk tea served to her by Leah. The two females sat beside each on the couch with Luis snooping around, Leah gave up trying to get him away from her stuffs.
Bonnie wished the peace could last for a few days longer before a new case dropped onto her table. She hummed to her, filtering the bickering between Luis and Leah as white nose from the background.
"AHHHHHH!!!" A brief scream of pain and terror made everything pause at a standstill. The three stopped whatever they were doing and quickly rushed to the source of the sound immediately, opening the door of the apartment that was two floors away from Leah's place. The two found a small crowd in front of the door, gaping in surprise as they were all in shock, staring at a man with empty eye sockets, facing upwards with his clothes filled with multiple stab wounds.
A new case was opened and it seemed to be a different from the last ones, yet Bonnie and Luis couldn't help feel like the perpetrator for this case was the same for the last ones.
