Chapter 10
Third POV
Luis sat down on the table, after Timothy Michaels' corpse was kept away as nobody came over to claim his body to bury. Leah wanted to help from her side, so she asked a few questions like a naïve girl and found out a few things that happened with her job as a journalist. So easily gathering information and identifying which was a rumor or not was her specialty with the ability to talk for hours without needing to breathe. Luis said it right to her face, receiving a quick jab to the shoulder from Bonnie.
-Timothy's wife's name was Ophelia Lock.
-Isaiah Lock's paternal aunt and had left the city years ago after her son disappeared and was never found.
-Ophelia and Timothy hadn't made any sort of contact for the last six years due to them having nothing to speak about and Timothy's abusive nature.
-The cat was found after the disappearance of Kevin. The son of Ophelia Lock and Timothy Michael.
-Detective Jones was meant to take over the search for Kevin Lock but was withdrawn from the case by the Lock family, themselves.
-Detective Jones and the Lock family have been afflicted with each other for ten – twelve years, which was how long he had been working at the LCPD.
Luis gathered the hard copy of the information that Leah provided for them and laid it on his desk, as he started to place the stack of papers on the table, circling out anything that seemed to have patterns on each paper, as it was obvious and easy to spot now. "Wait a minute." Bonnie stopped moving, quickly bringing out all the murder cases that they had worked on with Michael overseeing each case. All the victims had been killed with a silver coated weapon, whether it was a spoon or another random object.
'Using that beautiful brain of yours as expected.' Luis smiled, watching her in her element.
"How was your family's relationship with the Lock's family?" Bonnie asked Leah, she was engaged to Isaiah after they became legal in the eyes of the law. Not to mention, the Shane clan didn't seem all that happy from being near the Lock's in the first place, like they knew something about them that seemed to threaten them. She knew how they acted; Bonnie had been invited to Shane's household many times during her time in middle school, high school and medical school. They basically considered her their own even if she did the same. She was more in control of her emotions than most, which was why she came off as heartless to most people. Leah was one of the few people that caught sight of her shaky hands and teary eyes after the case was over.
"Not the best."
Leah admitted, since they clearly were not on good terms with her either. Considering their dismissive behavior of her during the burial of Isaiah. The Shane's and Lock's were on good terms during her childhood but as her teen years started, the two families started to become distant. Her family was the one that distanced themselves from the Lock's in the first place. "You know you are meant to elaborate on that, Leah." Bonnie twirled her pen in her hand, as she waited for her ex-roommate to speak up and help her solve the mystery in front of her.
"I am not sure what caused the separation, but I know it was from my family's side. My dad looked at Mr. Shane in distaste, like he tasted something foul." Leah did her best to describe whatever she picked up from the interactions with both families. The Lock's family acted like she knew something, which was why they were avoidant of her despite the obvious display of confusion from her side. Bonnie didn't like them much either but that was because she didn't know them and their history with people wasn't the best either.
Luis' gaze remained on Bonnie despite listening to Leah's explanation for the entirety before the cat in his arms started to purr loudly, abruptly standing up and jumping out of his lap. The cat stared at Bonnie for a while, before bolting for the door on its four feet starting a chase, Leah started to run after the cat without a single thought, then Bonnie joined her in the pursuit of the cat with Luis being the last person to follow them. The station was nearly empty as they spent most of their time in the morgue, so their internal clocks were a bit different as a result. Even in the middle of the chase, Luis seemed to be in control as he made sure to lock up the entrance of the morgue and the station itself.
It was easy for Leah to match up to the pace of the cat in her high heels, she had a higher tolerance for pain because of her time as a gymnast back in high school. The same thing could be said for Bonnie, but she was in the field track team, so she outran the two of them and was able to catch the cat before it ran into the street. "Got you." She sighed in relief, until she realized where she was. The brunette found herself standing in front of a home with a gold plate with a name boldly engraved into it.
OPHELIA LOCK-MICHAELS.
The cat quickly made purring noises as it looked at the door before returning his gaze back to Bonnie. "No." She was quick to express her disapproval to the idea. It made no sense for her to go to an abandoned building of all places that she was led to by a cat, which was one of the animals that were strangely linked to luck. Even if the cat was neither black nor white in color, she wasn't trying to be brave. Rather, she waited for Leah and Luis to show up and stay a far distance from the building. Yet that didn't stop the door from creaking open with arms extending towards her, as she was pulled into the house with a scream that filled the air of the empty streets with her voice with the cat that was strangely calm in her arms, as they were dragged away.
